  • "Luxurious, spacious, comfortable flat in a lovely location."

    Very quiet and restful. There are shops a 5 minute walk away and the funicular down to the spa and beach is very close. The kitchen is well equipped. There are 44 steps to the flat which is fine if you have no problems with stairs. We will certainly be returning.

  • "Beautiful stylish flat very comfortable and clean, slight disadvantage being that it's up 4 flights of stairs and only being allowed 1 set of keys means that as the intercom on the front door doesn't work you have to ring ahead and wait for the people already back at the flat to come down all these steps to let you in."

    As our daughter had one of the children in the bath we had to wait ages before we could get inside. Apart from that it's a great flat. A tip for other guests would be to take spare towels or a supply of washing tablets as you only get 1 towel each for a week.

  • "Absolutely beautiful apartment with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay."

    Great location away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre and beach front but just a short walk from all the attractions. Parking right outside the apartment even in the middle of August. Immaculately clean throughout with comfortable beds, plenty of towels and the goodies were a lovely extra touch. Would highly recommend and would definitely return in the future. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay.

  • "We stayed in this lovely apartment last September when the mattress on the main bed wasn't very comfortable but they've clearly replaced it and i had the best night's sleep."

    That was the only gripe last year but al sorted now. Its all done to a high standard. I love it here and will definitely return. Thank you

  • "We enjoyed our stay overall with a great location, quiet and furnished to please the eye, with everything in the kitchen you could ask for."

    However, we are very sorry to say that 2 things let the apartment down, and these are 2 of the most important; cleanliness and bed comfort. We found very quickly that the apartment had not been cleaned to an expected standard, for such a highly rated property. Thick dust on the fireplace, food crumbs in the bottom of the fridge, evidence of the last children to stay in the bunk bed drawers, sticky drinks ring marks on the main bedside table and worst of all, dirty and hairy main bedsheet and pillow cases. We are not fussy, and do not go out looking for issues, but these stood out straight away and really surprised us. The bedding was so bad, we had to buy a new sheet and pillow cases whilst out food shopping in Tesco (not far away, again cannot fault the location). We also bought 2 extra towels as we had only been supplied with 3, for 4 of us to last a full week. I'm sure the owners will be really disappointed to hear this, and hope that they address the issues with whoever provides the cleaning service. I can only presume they are not aware or this was a one-off. Unfortunately, the mattress on the main bed also needs replacing. It had sunk on both sides and we could feel the springs underneath. We usually find that beds are firmer or of a memory foam structure, but this was too soft and felt well used. Unfortunately this did affect our sleep. It was also disappointing that the side sea view was blocked by the full height scaffolding next door. I think this should be made clear on the listing to avoid any disgruntled guests. Again, we hope that the owners address the issues and take this as constructive feedback. I'm sure they will, and if they do, they will be back to the 5 star rated property it deserves to be. I would also like to express my disappointment that Sykes did not respond to our concerns sent via their message service on the first day. We also followed this up towards the end of the stay and have still not heard back. Only automated responses received which is poor customer service.

I can confirm we have now replaced our mattress, as we were not aware the mattress had gone as it has been a while since we stayed over in our apartment for the night. Thank you for also bringing to attention the cleanliness of the apartment. We trusted the cleaner to make sure our apartment was clean to the highest of standards. This was not acceptable and I can also confirm that we only expect the highest of standards of cleanliness, which is why we have now got a new cleaner for our future cleans.   • "Everything was wonderful yet again."

    We would have loved to extend our stay but due to the Saturday being booked we could not. The 3 flights of stairs to the property are a challenge but we always managed. There is building work going on next door and scaffolding that slightly hinders the wonderful view but nothing that would spoil your stay. Location and property never disappoint. We shall visit again for sure.

    The prosecco and cookies were a lovely touch! Beautiful quiet location with pleasant views. Within easy reach of the esplanade. Lots of walking and things to do, along with plenty places to visit and enjoy. All in all we will definately be back we loved it.

  • "Sailors and Mermaids is a beautiful apartment."

    Very good location for walking into town, etc. The only addition I would make is to provide a clothes airer so that you don’t have to use the dryer. Other than that it’s the perfect holiday apartment and the Christmas tree was a lovely surprise.

We do have a clothes airer that is kept under the King size bed, we leave it hanging out a little so that it can be seen, however it must have been knocked further under the bed out of sight. I will update our page to make sure future guests are aware of the airer and will also put a note on the dryer itself to let future guests know that there is also a clothes airer.   • "Lovely 3 week stay,perfectly located in the quiet part of Scarborough and so close to the lovely walks that abound in that area such as the rose garden and the italian gardens."

    Loved the walks down to the seafront from the many paths and if they get to much there's the cliff lift that brings you back up. Apartment itself was very clean and comfy with lovely views from the floor to ceiling windows.

  • "Fantastic holiday."

    The apartment was stunning, the decor excellent. So peaceful yet so close to the beach, Italian Gardens, Clock Cafe and Costal Walk. Apartment was of an extremely high standard and had everything you could wish for. The location resulted in a 2 minute walk to both the beach and Clock Cafe which we frequented regularly during our holiday. I would highly recommend Sailors and Mermaids Apartment for anyone visiting Scarborough and we shall return.

    It is decorated and furnished to a very high standard and is equipped with everything we required to make our stay very relaxed and comfortable. The location of the apartment was ideal for us within easy walking distance of the town and we had no problems parking outside the property using the supplied parking permit.   • "A lovely, clean, tidy and comfortable property in a lovely location."

    Made for a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. Only two very minor recommendations for improving a stay: 1. Info in the house book about recycling and bin colours. (We had to search the internet.) 2. There weren’t any dishwasher tablets. (Suspect just run out but not replenished.) Will be keeping this property in mind should we return to Scarborough next year. Thank you for a lovely break.
