The accommodation is excellent. Its position provides great opportunities to explore by foot or car this part of Anglesey. The house is fully equipped with high quality fittings in kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms. Our mattress was so comfortable. Fabulous power shower in en-suite. Outstanding views. Some minor cosmetic issues but nothing to spoil our stay. Yes the track is rough but perfectly easy to navigate with our standard BMW tourer. Heartily recommend it to those wanting a quieter time on holiday.

  • "In general the property was very comfortable and in a good location."

We had a lovely stay and felt at home there. However the main problem we experienced was a very narrow track to drive up to the property and the hedges had not been cut back or maintained which resulted in our car being scratched each time we drove up and down the track. This put a downer on our holiday and was very frustrating. Due to this we will not be returning to the property again.

  • "Our second time staying at Isfryn."

Really enjoyed our stay. Glad to see the slightly rotten patio has been replaced with a nice new composite one. Lovely house, very clean. It's in a remote location with incredible views and so peaceful Only two things I could say need to be looked at. Firstly a gate needs to be installed across the entrance to the cess pit area just to stop nosey dogs or children going in. The dishwasher tablet dispenser doesn't work.poperly but I got around that by just placing the tablet at the bottom of the washer before starting it. The lane to.the house as other have said needs to mentioned. If you have a low car it's needs to driven down with a great deal of caution. My Alfo Mito had few scrapes before we learned how to navigate it. Any MPV should be fine. Overall though we would love to stay again in the future.

  • "This was a beautiful house in a stunning location."

It was comfortable, spacious and we felt at home. There were no issues which detracted from our holiday but some matters we would like the owners to be aware of. Some maintenance points: Considerable leak on the bath tap in the family bathroom. Some loose and missing grout in the tiled floor of the ensuite bathroom. Batteries in the Hive thermostat showing as "red" Dishwasher does not release tablet from the dispenser. Some facility points: No readily accessible hooks for wet coats (necessary given the outdoor nature of the location and Welsh weather!) A coat stand would be a useful addition. Imbalance in crockery and cutlery, for example many glasses and small coffee cups, less full size mugs. Insufficient crockery and cutlery to efficiently use the dishwasher as it was not possible to accumulate dishes in the washer and have enough to use. All of these points are easily resolved and we would not in any way wish to detract from the overall quality of the house and the excellent holiday we had there.

The fire was not cleaned. Two kitchen plates had food on them. The utensils were greasy. We also did find the kitchen that well equipped with old utensils, plates and the trays for the oven need replacing. The kitchen floor and table were dirty. The other area that needs attention is the main bathroom. The bath tap leaks and the floor tiles are broken and with missing grout. On the positive the location was very nice and quite with wonderful views.

  • "This was our second stay in the property, which we really like and would highly recommend."

Despite this, there are some things that would have made our stay even better, as follows: 1. the cooker hood lights need to be replaced. Neither of them worked and there were no spare bulbs available. 2. the cooker hood fan needs to be checked - it was very noisy and I think it is faulty. It was unusable. 3. the soap dispenser on the dishwasher remains closed during the wash cycle, which means that the detergent is not released into the machine. 4. the kettle needs to be replaced because the lid is broken and potentially dangerous. 5. the frying pans and metal baking trays should be replaced because they are very old and scratched. 6. more cutlery would have been useful. 7. the fan in the ensuite bathroom was unusable - it seems to be on its last legs.

The access road needs maintenance and is only suitable for four wheel drive vehicles . This was mentioned in the welcome pack . We were aware that it was early in the letting season but the outdoor garden facilities were untidy and not very welcoming in contrast with the interior. The house name was worn and not particularly visible which is very important after a long journey with some narrow lanes to negotiate at the approach to the property. Despite these points, our party of four had an enjoyable stay.

We've had the best holiday and couldn't have asked for more. The walks in the local area are perfect for us with our Labrador. We loved watching the ships at sea and the tides come and go from the living room window in a morning. It was so peaceful. The lack of light pollution meant we could see so many more stars and even a few shooting ones. It's been magical and I hope we'll return one day.

As it turned out, I needn’t have worried. Isfryn is a lovely spacious property with beautiful views from the lounge and bedrooms. Yes, some of the grouting is a little black around the base of the showers but this is a very minor detail. The rest of the house appears to have been freshly decorated and it was clean throughout. The lane up to the property is rough but if taken slowly it’s absolutely fine. Even with a car without much ground clearance, we didn’t experience any issues. We will definitely be booking again.

  • "Isfryn is a really lovely property in a great position for attractions on both the island and the mainland."

The major drawback is the approach road which is in a dreadful state. Unless you have a 4x4 your car is likely to 'bottom' and it can't be doing tyre lifetime any good. The other drawback is that (as others have mentioned) there are several minor issues that could be fixed on a changeover day but haven't been. We left a note detailing 7 issues, the most serious of which was that we were unable to find oven gloves - H&S issue Sykes. The vacuum was hopeless and poored 'wet dog' smell into the room rather than picking up. The sink in the en-suite bedroom drains very slowly. If these were all fixed then Isfryn would be a 5 star property every time. If you have already booked, don't dismay - we had a great week and these issues are irritations rather than holiday spoilers.

Overall the property was very clean and we would recommend it. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Minor criticisms would be: Crockery and cutlery are getting worn. Clean pillow and mattress protectors should be provided for new visitors. They were grubby and some pillows have no protectors. The draughts through the windows and doors in the lounge made the room quite cold with the weather not being too good.

Great to see much needed improvements made, new cooker, wardrobes, freshly decorated, new heated towel rail in bathroom, new shower heads, new outdoor seating (on decking was a treat as never sat here before and the sun beams here) Couple of niggles; one seat cushion missing on a sofa on decking, some old doors left on the decking, no basics in kitchen i.e. wash up sponge, cloth, one dishwasher tablet. The location though remote is fantastic. However some lack of maintainence alongside some untidy aspects need to be addressed. A garden bench collapsed due to being rotten which could have caused injury. There are also rotten timbers on the raised patio. There is quite a bit of rubbish which needs disposing of such as empty boxes, and the remains of an old kitchen. Lastly the track to the property needs to be mentioned. It is passable with care with a normal road car on a dry summer's day. However if it is wet I would say you would almost certainly need a 4x4 or a high vehicle, to navigate the deep potholes and rocks.

The house was really warm with a log burner in the lounge which we made full use of. Isfryn was larger than we expected , with new carpets, new thick towels, comfortable beds and a well stocked kitchen. Dressed for Christmas made us feel welcome. The twin bedroom has some shelving for clothing but there is nowhere to hang clothes and since it is a smallish room perhaps it is more suitable for children. Oddly the only bedroom with a mirror is the en-suite room. The house is in a lovely, secluded position with views of the bay. Many pleasant walks can be made from the door. Access to the property for the last 200 Ms is by a rough track but taken slowly driving an Octavia and a Polo we never had problems. Previous reviewers mention the absence of an adequate vacuum. The issue is now resolved with a new ‘Henry’. We accept that the quiet location will limit mobile phone signals but our main gripe was a very intermittent Wi-Fi connection. It seems to be a BT hub via a landline but even so for say 70% of the time we needed Wifi the hub was not connected. Perhaps we were unlucky since no one else has mentioned this as a problem in reviews or the visitor’s book. Bins collection is fortnightly. We put both outside the gate and they were emptied on Thursday 6th October. We experienced some minor cleaning issues and were I the owner I would be disheartened by the many carpet stains to what look like newish carpets. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay and the real test is would we go again – the answer is ‘yes we would happily return’.

The road to Isfryn is a single track country road then onto a farm track but our cars and a motorcycle made it up and down with ease. We loved the isolation and peace. The tree house type platform was perfect for all day chilling on with breakfast or to enjoy a glass of gin on in the afternoon. Log fire was enjoyed of an evening and sofas and beds all comfy. We had 4 adults a child and 2 dogs and we all had space, it felt safe and was fun to be in after our days exploring Anglesey. The Panton arms nearby was great for food and atmosphere. Local garage for firewood was convenient. Could do with a little investment to enhance some tired furniture and replace a useless hoover (it wasn’t nice to not be able to hoover as we went especially with having a small child and dogs) A new bench would also be lovely as it is so lovely to be sat outside the lounge area. Bathrooms and showers etc great and this house has a lovely open homely feel to it.

You can walk down to the beach but that hill is very steep for some people but hubby found another route back which was flatter. We visited our favourite beaches and our dog teddy loves them but not the sea. Lovely to go back to a homely house and chill, and being by the sea we were both really tired, and the beds provided were really comfy. The biggest disappointment was the log burner in the cottage, it was unusable when we arrived completely black with soot, you couldn't see through the glass, I cleaned it out thoroughly and it still smoked us out the first night, I again cleaned it thoroughly, I got loads of soot out of the chimney, but then we just gave up with it because it smelled do strongly of soot, the chimney is well overdue for being cleaned, This was very disappointing as at this time if year an open fire or log burner is definitely a decider in our choice of Cottage, we have been on at least a dozen Sykes holidays and this is the first time I have had cause for complaint. The owner of the property did not contact us before, during or after our holiday. The range cooker was not very efficient, the main oven took an age to cook anything, the small cooker to the side was better, not all the gas rings worked. The lounge could do with some pictures or ornaments, it looks very sparse, upstairs looks very tired, I feel that they haven't done anything to this cottage for a long time and are just cashing in on it's location. Overall I would not in good conscience be able to recommend this cottage to family or friends until the problems that I have highlighted had been addressed

We are so sorry to hear you had problems with the fire and cooker we were unaware of these issues. We have now got both of these problems in hand . Thank you also for your other comments we are always glad to have feed back from our guests. We will be looking at your suggestions and certainly be giving the upstairs a refresh . Apologies once again for your problems. Property Owner

Fantastic wildlife. We found the Sykes live chat very helpful when we needed help to put the heating on. The owner of the cottage was contacted Who intern contacted us immediately and resolved our problem couldn’t have been more helpful. We enjoyed our stay so much at this cottage we have rebooked for the beginning of next year. When the tide is out it’s a very special walk across the bay to the boathouse

  • "We had a power cut for a full day whilst we were there."

We spoke to a neighbour and were told that all property owners had been notified that the power would be off on that day from 9.00 m to 4.30pm. Unfortunately on that particular day we had arranged for friends to visit us for a meal. This had to be cancelled and we ate out. We couldn't shower or even make a cup of tea as the gas ignition wouldn't work and we needed to go into Pentraeth to buy a box of matches as there were none in the house. The owner of the property apologised via Sykes but he said that he had no prior knowledge of the cut. The fact is that everybody was informed even if it didn't get through to the owner. I asked for compensation of £50. In the end after negotiation through Sykes, I got £25 which I think is a paltry amount for a whole day (and food as well) spoiled. Ultimately somebody was responsible - where does the buck stop. All of that said, we did enjoy the rest of our holiday and it is a lovely house in a beautiful area

  • "A lovely well equipped and comfortable holiday home."

Just some small niggles and a few extras would have made it 5 star. Beautiful views from the house and garden. An ideal location for exploring Anglesey and not too far to pop over to Gwynedd.

Location , quiet with great views base for activities walking, beach size layout facilities cleanlines would be 5 if not for : a) rough track to access, one car wide, so keep eyes open b) midges are prolific dawn / dusk which limits use of decking and garden specifically in evening

  • "The cottage was warm and comfortable and we had a lovely time with the whole family."

However, I would say that this is not a house for 6 people - it's a house for 4 adults and 2 children! The twin-bedded room was deceptive in the photograph and was very much smaller than we anticipated. There was also nowhere to put clothes apart from a rather wobbly cheap unit of 3 small shelves with canvas cover over the top. We also had a problem opening the key safe as the 4th button of the key code would not work. In the end, after struggling, we managed to open it by pressing all 4 buttons at the same time, but this took two people to open it! It definitely needs replacing. The only other thing that would stop us coming here again was the access road. The instructions said a stony track! They did not say it was a very rough track full of pot-holes and made getting up and down to the cottage difficult, unless you were in a 4x4! We scraped the bottom of our cars on several occasions despite driving carefully and trying to keep one set of wheels on the raised grass bit in the middle!!

Road was unbarerable to far off the beaten track , to get access to the key was a task very very difficult task ,same putting it back again , other than that the cottage was nice and the appliances where spot on

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.  We will contact the owners and let them know that the key safe may be getting a little stiff.  Property Owner

  • "Property large very clean and well equipped."

We were very surprised that the garden to such a property was not very big. Only has a front garden an half of that taken up by the parking suggest visitors take a four by four as the road to the property is a steep dirt track full of pot holes the sea views from the lounge are wonderful don't suggest you walk to the beach unless you have walking boots and are used to walking

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. We are really happy that you enjoyed your stay at Isfryn, we hope to see you back in North Wales soon!

About the location

PENTRAETH

Red Wharf Bay 2 miles; Benllech 3 miles; Beaumaris 6 miles.

Pentraeth is a small attractive village on the banks of the River Nodwydd on the north-east coast of Anglesey. It has a village church that dates back to the 12th century and is located between Llanddona beach and Red Wharf Bay, which has over 4.5 miles of sandy beach. Red Wharf Bay’s Welsh name is Traeth Coch (Red Beach) and the area is renowned for its glorious sunsets. The bay is very shallow and provides safe bathing, perfect for wonderful family fun, fishing and miles of stunning scenic walks. The large bay attracts a huge number of waterfowl and wading birds, including shell duck, grey plover, purple sandpipers, curlew, oystercatchers and dunlin. Only 6 miles away is the delightful medieval town of Beaumaris which boasts a 13th century moated castle, excellent shops, pubs, restaurants, bistros and museums, as well as a golf course and exciting pleasure boat and sea fishing trips. This is a great location on the east coast of the picturesque Isle of Anglesey, yet only six minutes from the Britannia Bridge to access the mainland.
