The property

Stranraer 7 miles.

This superb detached holiday cottage is set on a dramatic hillside location near Stranraer in South West Scotland.

This fully re-built shepherd’s cottage offers stunning views over Loch Ryan, the Mull of Kintyre and beyond to Ireland.

All ground floor and with an access ramp, Little Laight has electric underfloor central heating, much of which comes from its own wind turbine.

There are three bedrooms: a double with an en-suite and two twins sharing a Jack-and-Jill bathroom.

A spacious kitchen has a dining room, while the main sitting room has a flame-effect electric fire and is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the superb views as they change with the weather.

Outside is a yard with ample parking and an ideal place for a barbecue.

The surrounding countryside offers superb walking and cycling and is only a few hundred yards from the Scottish Coastal Path and next to an SSSI (Special Site of Scientific Interest) with an array of wildlife.

Why not visit Logan Botanical Gardens and its exotic range of plants and trees or one of the other gardens flourishing in the climate of South West Scotland.

Take a trip to Scotland’s most southerly point, the Mull of Galloway with its dramatic cliffs, the Robert Stevenson lighthouse or the RSPB Nature Reserve.

The more active visitor will relish the Galloway Forest Park with its Dark Sky status and excellent walking and world-class cycling on the renowned 7Stanes mountain bike trails.

A superb holiday cottage and an ideal place to relax at any time of the year.

Where you’ll be staying

STRANRAER

Portpatrick 8 miles; Newton Stewart 25 miles.

Stranraer, which became a Burgh of Barony in 1596 and a Royal Burgh in 1617, lies on the shores of Loch Ryan on the northern side of the isthmus joining the Rhins of Galloway to the mainland. There are many shops and cafes to while away an hour or two and the Stranraer Town Trail explains some of the fascinating history. For walkers, the Southern Upland Way touches Stranraer on its way through the Galloway Hills, having begun in Portpatrick, 7 miles to the west. Three nearby gardens are open to the public and well worth a visit at Castle Kennedy, Glenwhan and Logan. Stranraer has several beaches, however it is worth travelling to Sandhead and New England Bay for wonderful sandy beaches. A short drive south and you come to the Mull of Galloway, Scotland’s southernmost point. The lighthouse on the headland looks over some of the last remaining sections of natural coastal habitat on the Galloway coast and an RSPB nature reserve has been set up to retain this spectacular and diverse area.
