While appreciating our booking was in November, the cottage was very cold, especially the kitchen. The storage heaters seemed to have little effect, again particularly in the kitchen. We couldn't sit to eat in the kitchen due to the cold. The log burner didn't seem to produce the sort of heat we expected and we went through at least one bag of logs per evening. There was mould around the bath and on the tile grouting. I actually bought spray mould buster to deal with this. A lovely place for the summer, but too cold for us for a winter break.

The Pink House is a lovely little cottage right on the quayside overlooking the harbour to the front and along the coast to the rear. Fabulous views. Lyn, the owner, was on hand when we arrived and very friendly and helpful. The scones, cream and jam on arrival were delicious and welcome. The accommodation was very clean and is an ideal base to explore the Whithorn peninsula. My only comment regarding the house is that there is no WiFi. Not a massive problem but slightly inconvenient as there is variable phone coverage in the area. I would definitely recommend a visit to the Pink House and the Isle of Whithorn.

  • "This is a lovely comfortable cottage in a great location."

We had a restful (?) week there which started with cream tea waiting for us in the dining kitchen. The weather was not brilliant, but this is Scotland, so log fires in the evening were a must. Not a hardship though. The views from the cottage itself are almost enough to make you stay indoors all the time, but the walks locally are easy and quite spectacular. The owner is so helpful, it was almost a pleasure to find something wrong, but we didn't find anything wrong. The cottage is well equipped and well situated at the corner of the harbour, making being nosey an easy pasttime. The owner lives locally, and was there if we needed her, which we didn't. Sad to go and leave the place, so much so that our dog sulked on arriving home. Loking forward to our next visit. This is one of those places you wish you had found years ago.

Upon arrival the cottage was clean and welcoming with the key holder leaving us some home baked scones, jam and cream. The views from the cottage at front and back were fantastic and the local pub was very friendly although due to it being so busy we would recommend you book in at the restaurant. We will be back.

  • "Got back on Saturday after an amazing week stay in this beautiful cottage."

Outstanding views both at the front and rear of the property. It was delightful to sit in bed with a pot of tea, looking out at the beautiful scenery. The cottage has everything you need for a home from home and was spotless! We was welcomed with a delicious cream tea! The wood fire was especially nice to cosy upto in the evening. A short walk, is a quaint pub, friendly staff, fabulous meals and real ale....more of skip and a jump rather than a walk. In the village is a lovely cafe with a shop on site for those essentials and they serve a scottish breakfast. Great for those who like to holiday with their pets and everywhere caters for dogs and children. A delightful walk at the back of the fishing harbour was St Ninians Chapel in the wonderful countryside and by the sea and not far is St Ninians Cave. Lots to do nearby, but a car is essential. Great if you want peace and quiet and leisurely walks. Excellent value for money....have been recommending to everyone I know!!!

About the location

ISLE OF WHITHORN

Whithorn 4 miles; Garlieston 7 miles, Wigtown 14 miles; Newton Stewart 22 miles.

Referred to locally as 'The Isle', the Isle of Whithorn is designated an outstanding conservation area. The graceful crescent of shore and neat houses that make up the harbour presents a perfect spectacle in any camera’s viewfinder. Already in existence 1600 years ago, the community was at the very beginning of Scotland’s Christian history when Ninian, Scotland’s first missionary and saint, founded his church at Whithorn. The Isle Church itself, a former Free Kirk, stands prominent in defiance of the highest of tides. The Isle harbour, once the host of cargoes of coal, fertiliser and timber is now busy throughout the year with local boats fishing for crabs and lobsters, as well as catches of scallops brought in by the visiting Manx fleet. However, some of the best goes straight in through the doors of the award-winning Steam Packet Inn on the waterfront! Take a walk along the Harbour and enquire about local sea-angling opportunities. At the end of the Harbour, follow the signs for St Ninian’s Chapel and shortly you’ll come to the Witness Cairn. Just a short distance away stands the 14th century ruin of St Ninian’s Chapel, once a place where pilgrims were welcomed and now in the care of Historic Scotland. It’s an easy climb up the Cairn to the distinctive white tower which has been a mariner’s landmark for close on two centuries. At the top you can behold the majestic expanse of the Solway and the Irish Sea. Across the water lie the great peaks of Cumbria’s Lake District, while due south lies the Isle of Man, its nearest point just 18 miles away. The Isle is a welcoming port for visiting leisure sailors and bowlers too. So please bring your boat and your bowls! At the Isle you will discover a tranquil place that is much more than just a view. Welcome to the Isle!
