"This was our 12th visit to 'Gordons' , Everything is always clean and well prepared , the view is great and if the weather is good the garden is lovely to sit in ."
-
"Been coming for a few years now and we love it."
Very comfortable and relaxing.
-
"An excellent location with fantastic views over the River Severn."
The cottage had everything we needed, was comfortable inside and also had a lovely outdoor patio area and garden. The upstairs lounge area in particular was comfortable, light and airy - an ideal place to relax after the day's activities

"We would recommend this comfortable well equipped cottage for a restful holiday it is set on a steep slope above the road from Little Dean to Newnham."
The cottage and garden are set on a steep sloping site with views over the Severn valley. from within the property and also from the rear garden. Lives up to its name of Gordons View. The cottage is a lot bigger than it appears online. The off road parking is a layby opposite the cottage entrance shared with next door. The cottage is accessed up steps from the road. Easy access to Forest of Dean by car or by good bus services in Little Dean and Newnham. Local eating we would recommend the Belfry Hotel in Little Dean. The village has a small general food shop and popular chip shop. Newnham also has a food shop and cafe

"We had really lovely, relaxing stay at this comfortable cottage, overlooking the Severn valley."
Lots of places to visit locally.
-
"This was our 11th stay , it's one of the best holiday homes that we visit , 'Gordon's View' is always well equipped and immaculately presented ."
-
"Another lovely week."
We have come every year since 2020 and find it a very comfortable, well equipped cottage. Beautiful views.
-
"An excellent choice."
This delightful house has the most amazing views over the Severn and in July the dawn sky was beautiful. The house itself is comfortable, spotlessly clean and extremely well supplied with everything two people could need, all in good working order. The steep terrain could be a problem for people with mobility problems, but this reviewer, with 2 recent knee replacements, coped fine. Thoroughly recommended.
-
"Well maintained and comfortable but it is an old cottage so dark downstairs."
However, the light on the landing office area with the magnificent view of the Severn was a bonus. Only addition I would like would be a small seat at the front of the house to benefit from the views outside!

"We have just returned home from our ninth visit to 'Gordon's View' , we enjoy the Forest of Dean area and this house is perfect for us ."
When you arrive every room is spotlessly clean , the bed linen and towels are lovely and you are greeted by flowers in the dining room and milk in the fridge , there is a lovely garden to sit in and table/chairs and sun brolly are waiting for you , lastly the view is wonderful .

"Lovely cottage, very comfortable and we had a great stay."
What a fantastic view from the bedroom window. Only small gripe is that there were quite a few cobwebs ( and dead spiders ) hanging about. Appreciate that the little spider rascals will always get into older buildings but some of these had been there a while. Did not spoil our stay though.

"We were very happy with our stay, thank you."
Comfortable cottage and in a lovely setting. Well equipped and comprehensive instructions on use of equipment / facilities. Did experience difficulty with the ceramic hob ( need to push controls hard ), but never used this type of hob before. Parking opposite the house could be awkward given limited space , steep slope ,and mud when wet. On balance a a very pleasant cottage in a picturesque area. Thank you.

"Beautifully located, clean, welcoming, fully equipped and charming property."
Absolutely spot-on in all respects.

"Really loved the views the walking plus garden, the cottage wasn't what we expected in comfort sadly the sofas were small and uncomfortable not in keeping with cosiness next to a log burner so we decided to sit on the floor with pillows and blankets felt more romantic."
..the main bed in the bedroom was like sleeping on board we both have never slept on anything so awful it felt like a cheap mattress, so luckily in the second room we spotted the sofa bed and the next night slept there for the rest of are holiday it was slightly more better if anything, I can't understand why the second room is not used as the main bedroom going out onto the garden plus the toilet and shower being located there and plus no road noise but I guess the owner is relying on the views rather then the layout and comfort of the cottage, it was also the small things like we kept tripping on the floor matts down stairs as they kept moving about or no trays to put your food on to sit near the fire (a big selling point log burner) rather then a big dining table, are stay was good I don't want to sound bad as it is a beautiful location plus the garden was just great to relax in, the cottage was lovely it just needs the homely touch in comfort really and the two main things for that are sofas and beds, but will definitely head back to that location again and hopefully if any changes to the cottage would definitely return.
Many thanks for for your helpful feedback, Terry. I am glad you enjoyed the amazing views and the garden. I am sorry to hear that you found the bed and sofa uncomfortable. I quite agree that the sofa upstairs is more comfortable than the one in the sitting room. My late husband and I bought the one downstairs to support our backs and make us sit up properly when watching TV! I am also sorry to hear your concerns about the mattress. It was in fact very expensive, but it is firm. I chose it in the hope that it would provide effective support for the back and might last longer that the previous one. However, I agree that it is probably firmer than I anticipated. I am saving up to replace it with a medium one. In the meantime, I will upgrade the mattress topper when I am next at Gordon's View at the end of the month. I am also looking for a new runner to protect the carpet in the sitting room. The current ones do sometimes have a mind of their own! I do hope that one day you will find your way back to Gordon's View, to enjoy the views and the garden again - in more comfort! Property Owner

"Amazing location and views over the Severn and Forest of Dean literally outside the back door."
This has been a very well equipped and comfortable place but is a little tired and in need of some refreshment. The bed was very uncomfortable and the creeping carpets a real trip risk. It would also be advisable to point out the steepness of the outdoor steps and internal staircase as not possibly being suitable for everyone. Manoeuvring the refuse bins for collection was challenging particularly as the access door couldn’t be opened.

"To say 'Gordons View' is my 'happy' place is an understatement, to show how much my husband and I enjoy going there we have just booked again for this June and next January , The cottage is always well presented and the cleanliness is first class ."
My thanks to Mrs Smith (caretaker) who is so welcoming ,

"Spacious accommodation for 2 Quaint cottage with pretty garden Well equipped Mattress was like sleeping on a boulder!"
-
"Beautiful cottage in a gorgeous location."
Views were outstanding. Spotlessly clean with very considerate touches....tea, coffee, milk and flowers on arrival. Plenty of local tips and information to browse through in the property. Great WiFi. Well equipped kitchen. A summer-weight duvet too! Being as it was in the 30's throughout our stay, this was most thoughtful and appreciated greatly. Highly recommended this lovely property.
-
"Lovely property with fantastic views."
Everything you need for a comfortable stay. Owner helpful and responsive to any queries. Great location on the edge of the Forest of Dean with beautiful countryside and interesting towns within easy reach.
-
"We have been for the last 3 years."
Love the setting and the layout of the cottage. Very comfortable relaxing place to stay.
-
"The cottage was very comfortable and very well equipped with everything we might need."
The garden was a lovely extra and the views superb.
-
"In my opinion this property exceeds expectations but as explained in the description is definitely not suitable for those with mobility problems due to its position on a hillside needing steps to access both front and rear entrances, the staircase is also narrow and steep."
The private back garden is a very unexpected asset with wonderful views of the horseshoe bend of the river Severn down below in Newnham, especially from the strategically placed bench at the top. It's only a 10 minute walk into Littledean where there is a great Fish & Chip Shop, a small grocery store and a hotel providing 'pub food'. Cinderford is 2 miles away with lots more 'Takeaways' and 'Lidl'. Kudos to Wendy the housekeeper as this quirky cottage must be a nightmare to clean with all its nooks and crannies! The provision of milk in the fridge and fresh flowers on the table were also much appreciated!
-
"Very clean and comfortable cottage with spectacular views across the Severn Estuary."
A good base for exploring the nearby Forest with excellent walks from cottage. A superb fish and chip in the village where I had the biggest and best Plaice that I have ever had. We will return!
-
"It must be good as this was our 7th visit and we are very fussy !"
!!!! The view is amazing and the area of the Forest of Dean is lovely !!!!!

"How to start, from front porch try to get in to key access on your knees to put in code, to mat inside door that moves, traps door from shutting as you go out, others inside that travel on carpet, continuously putting all back in place."
How do you ever turn on/off bath taps behind shower screen in bathroom, wrong tap does not fit sink, work the television find a channel you want to watch, access bathroom from bedroom down step. Books under stairs dare not even go near, as cobwebs and dust prominent, what on earth all books and such on landing at top of stairs don't even go there, told in red guide book all had been cleaned and treated. untrue. How many this cottage is supposed to cater for (i thought two) as 22 mugs in cupboard along with cups and saucers, cutlery in every drawer possibly for people using 22 mugs and more. I can appreciate it being old cottage but it just does work DIY DISASTER. Are not all electrical appliances supposed to be pact tested?
Sorry to hear Gordon’s View didn’t live up to your expectations, Terry. You are absolutely right that the books under the stairs had got a bit dusty, since I wrote the entry in the red file! I assure you that all the books and games have now been thoroughly dusted and sprayed. It is also true that the doormat and the other mats sometimes have a mind of their own, but they are there to keep the carpet clean, as this is the main entry to the cottage. I am somewhat puzzled by your other comments. For example, the shower screen in the bathroom is hinged at the wall and simply has to be pulled back to gain access to the taps on the bath. PAT testing is not actually a legal requirement for appliances in furnished holiday lets, but I assure you they are all regularly checked. The key safe in the glazed porch is placed discreetly just below the shelf, for security reasons. Being built in the eighteenth century and extended in the nineteenth century, Gordon’s View is certainly unique with an interesting layout on a number of levels. Its character and comfort has been much appreciated by a large number of guests over the last ten years. Julia Margretts (Owner) Property Owner

"Lovely cosy cottage enjoying fantastic elevated position overlooking the River Severn."
Cottage was nice & clean. Enjoyed the log burner in the evenings. Useful desk area upstairs together with a 2nd room that could be used to sit & relax in with direct access to the lovely rear garden. Directly from the back gate it is just a short walk to some beautiful forest strolls. Would definitely stay again when visiting the area.

"A lovely cottage in a great location with spectacular views."
Well equipped and spotlessly clean. It doesn't have private parking, next door was working on their property and were very accommodating, so it wasn't a problem for us. Gloucester, Ross on Wye and Monmouth are all about a 30 mins drive away. Plenty of walks in the Forest of Dean. The old traditional cinema in Cinderford is well worth a visit, £6.00 a ticket to see the latest Bond film. The Bracken Cafe and Winebar, also in Cinderford, has great food, is good value for money, has friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere.

"Gordon’s view was the perfect peaceful place for unwinding."
The views across the River Severn were spectacular and the garden was beautiful. Plenty of good walks from the doorstep but beware it’s a long way down and back up again! The walk through the Forest of Dean to Soudley Ponds was particularly good (again, beware of the steep descent). We had a very relaxing week.
-
"Apart from the lack of a second bedside light in the bedroom, this cottage was almost perfect."
It was lovely and spacious with a gorgeous garden and amazing views and walks straight from the back door into the forest.
-
"Great cottage, everything you would expect, home form home, nice rear garden, views spectacular, ideally situated for visiting local tourist attractions and The Forest of Dean."
-
"The cottage was immaculate and very comfortable."
The views are stunning. It is a bit isolated as Newham is very quiet now, with few shops. The weather was unkind, but we managed one sunlit evening on the patio. Slept very well. Very well equipped and spacious cottage
-
"The cottage is very comfortable, and the views are amazing"
-
"I found the air freshener used too strong and offensive."
The cottage was spotless so why use it?
-
"Lovely well equipped cottage with stunning views."
We spent hours just looking out from the cottage and the gardens at the view across the Severn. Location ideal for exploring the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley. Would thoroughly recommend.
-
"Gordons View is a comfortable and always very well presented holiday home , the view from the house and garden is great !"
!!!! The area the house is set in is very picturesque - lovely woodland and estuary walks and drives , a number of small towns are an easy drive away !!!!

"Had a fantastic stay at the cottage."
It is cosy, well equipped, a bit quirky and so peaceful. We were lucky with the weather so could enjoy the garden and the absolutely amazing views. A great location to explore the area and plenty of walks on the doorstep. We very much hope to return.
-
"Clean, well equipped and comfortable cottage with amazing views."
Had all we needed for the week and was a great base to explore the area. We didn’t have any problems at all but it might be worth noting for others that there are stairs up to the front of the property and the ones inside to the upstairs are quite steep so you need to take a bit of care! We would like to return here to explore the area more fully without the current pandemic and its necessary restrictions.
-
"The location of Gordons View close to the main A48 road and the excellent access to the Forest of Dean with plenty of good local amenitys makes this a very good place to stay at any time of year ."
The cottage itself is very warm and comfortable with great views and would highly recommend it to anyone who has not visited this area before .
-
"Another lovely week spent in this warm and comfortable cottage which is always very clean and well presented , this was our fourth visit and we shall be returning in the summer, if all the above is not enough the view is amazing !"

"Cottage has an outstanding location, the view is a knock out!"

"Lovely little cottage with outstanding views !"
!!!!!.This was our third visit and hopefully we shall return next year !!!!

"The cottage was charming and very well equipped."
The view of the River Severn and the Cotswolds beyond from the front windows has to be among the most spectacular in England. The owner, with whom we had to communicate several times because of a problem with a broken kettle, was pleasant and helpful too. This is the second time we have rented a holiday cottage this year. On both occasions, we have been left wondering why cottage rental companies are not more transparent about one aspect of the properties they advertise which can affect people, like ourselves, who are light sleepers or sensitive to noise. Both were located on fairly busy minor roads. Both had bedrooms on the front of the property, facing the road. It doesn't tend to be a problem at night, but cars begin to pass the door of Gordon's View at about 5 in the morning and traffic rises to a peak of about one car every minute or so during peak hours. It is only by about 9 pm that the peace and quiet of the country start to return. Could I suggest that you consider some sort of rating system for properties which would give potential customers an indication of how quiet, remote or traffic-free a cottage is? It would relieve a considerable amount of anxiety and would help to ensure that future clients can be sure of being able to unwind and leave the world behind for a week if they wish to.

"I think the best parts of our stay were the tremendous views from the property, the cleanliness of the cottage and the care taken over explaining every aspect of the property and use of the appliances inside."
Everything seemed to be prepared just perfectly for us.

"Gordon's view cottage was a complete delight to stay in, from the fresh flowers and tea tray on arriving to discovering how perfectly clean and well equip it was, their was nothing not provided, sitting in the pretty garden admiring the stunning view was a complete tonic, we could not recommend this place enough."
-
"Cottage facilities were very good and it was spotless."
nice having two bathrooms! Lots of visitor attraction information, books, videos etc. TV, Video recorder etc was better than some other properties we have visited. The views from the cottage over the river Severn, especially in the morning, were spectacular at times.
