  • "The cottage itself was idyllic."

Our dog loved the big garden and we were incredibly lucky with the weather. Perfectly situated for on the door walks or a short drive to all the main attractions: Eastnor Castle, Deer Park, Great Malvern, Ledbury. The muffins and dog treats were a lovely touch. I only wish I’d known that the cottage was situated next to a busy road, perhaps an oversight on my part. This feedback is subjective of course, depending on where you live and what you’re used to. The road didn’t bother my partner at all. For me, the constant stream of lorry’s, motorbikes, and cars driving at 50/60 mph till late at night, meant I couldn’t enjoy the garden and with it being hot at night, meant I couldn’t open the windows due to the noise. I wasn’t able to relax as much as I’d hoped for. I am particularly sensitive to noise which is why I haven’t marked down this listing as this is out of the owners control, and everything else was perfect!

Thanks for your feedback, Jo. I’m sorry you found the road to be an issue. It’s not something that has been commented on before. It can get busy at weekends and rush hour. I would like to point out for future guests that the cottage is set well back from the road, around 40 yards. Also, at the time of this review there were diversions in place in the area to re-route traffic past the cottage. Property Owner

  • "The garden was a delight both for ourselves and our large dog."

There was ample garden furniture and the garden was truly enclosed with high hedges ( a must for a dog that can climb over a five foot fence ). The kitchen was well equipped for everyday meals, although there was no designated space in the cupboards for any groceries. I had to rearrange a cupboard to put away items such as cereal, tinned goods etc..An oven glove would have been appreciated as I used the oven a lot. The bed was very comfortable, although, presumably due to the age of the building, the bedroom floor was somewhat uneven. The bathroom contained a separate shower cubicle as well as a large bath, toilet and sink. I found the lighting in there rather poor for using the mirrors. The lounge area was dusty around the TV cabinet and the items around the wood burner and looked as if someone hadn't considered dusting the top of the TV box. I imagine it was cleaned after the previous guests had left but there was maybe a gap between bookings. When I swept before we left I discovered a fair amount of dust under the bed and the chest of drawers. Whilst I wouldn't sweep under the bed in my own home every week, I did feel a little more care should be taken with paying guests. Again presumably to do with the age of the building, we found paint bubbling with the damp by the front door. The dog knocked flakes of paint off almost every time she passed the wall. We were very surprised to find there was no recycling bin. I doubt many guests, including ourselves, are willing to drive six miles to find recycling facilities. Although this review sounds somewhat negative, on the whole the cottage was nice and the kind gesture of leaving us muffins, milk and dog treats was appreciated. Indeed, there was even a dog bed (although not large enough for our dog) and dog bowls left.

Thank you for your feedback, I’m pleased to hear you enjoyed your break. To address your comments- the cottage is 300 years old and we chose to keep as much of it as original as possible during restoration, including the elm floors upstairs. This does mean they are not perfectly level. I’m sorry to hear you felt there wasn’t a designated space for groceries. There is shelving, one empty cupboard and a utility room where guests normally store food. I must point out for the benefit of future guests, there is no dog bed, it is actually a footstool. • "Ivy Cottage was delightful."

A beautifully restored cottage where the owner had paid a great deal of attention to detail with the aim of giving holiday makers the best experience possible. It was spotlessly clean, spacious and very comfortable. One felt at home straight away on first opening the door. The garden was fully enclosed, with several seating areas so was perfect for pets and taking refreshments outdoors. The location was ideal, in the centre of a triangle between Malvern, Ledbury and Tewkesbury and with a common right on the other side of the road, which had footpaths leading to another common, and a NT managed hill fort. There were 3 excellent pubs within 15 minutes walk, friendly, cosy and serving excellent food at reasonable prices. Because Ivy Cottage is so popular with Sykes Cottages one needs to book a long time in advance, but the wait is definitely worth it.

We were disappointed that we did not receive any goodwill gesture from Sykes regarding the two days we were without hot water and had to climb stairs carrying kettles of boiling water. The owner dealt with the problem quickly but it involved us having a very early morning start.

The cottage has been beautifully restored and decorated to a high standard, which is a credit to the owner. Everything we needed was available, and it was a real pleasure to return each day to relax either in the garden or comfortable lounge, and then to retire to the very comfy, huge bed. (I had the best sleep I'd ever had away from home) Walks are available from the door, and other visitor attractions were in easy reach by car. Should we ever holiday in the area again, Ivy Cottage would be top of our list to stay.

A lovely cosy cottage with all the facilities you needed - the finish is to a really high standard. Rachele the owner provided us with all the information we needed, making sure we felt comfortable and also left a welcome package, which was really thoughtful. The cottage location is great, we spent a lot of our time on the Malvern Hills, which are a 10-minute drive and found a couple of local pubs. I couldn't recommend this cottage enough, we had a lovely time.

Situated in peaceful surroundings. It was Very well equipped we didn’t want for anything. There was a welcome waiting for us and even dog biscuits and a bowl of water waiting for lily our little dog. A log burner with plenty of logs made the evenings very cosy. It also has a very good Wi-Fi signal. The king size bed was very comfortable and we had a great nights sleep. We went to Ledbury and Tewkesbury. Two nice towns which was only twenty minute drive away. Would highly recommend ivy cottage and would definitely book again. Mel.

    The wifi however worked fine.

Unfortunately, as the cottage is in a rural location some networks will experience little or no signal. However, most networks do offer wifi calling and this just needs to be selected in your phone settings to enable it. You will then be able to make and receive calls via wifi. • "What a stunning cottage!"

As holiday cottage owners ourselves, we are quite picky, and our only negative comment is that there wasn't a lot of storage space for the food we took. There was a very generous welcome basket waiting for us on arrival, as well as one for the dogs. It was lovely being opposite the common for dog walks, although because of free-roaming sheep we couldn't let the dogs off the lead. But the garden to the cottage more than made up for that as it was really big and totally secure. Lovely to have the sitting-out area with comfy seats and a sun umbrella. The kitchen was really well equipped and it was good to have 2 separate seats in the living room. The king-size bed was really comfy and the hanging space very ingenious. Great to have so many hangers too. The bathroom was excellent, with a bath as well as a shower and plenty of shelf space for toiletries. Would definitely recommend this lovely cottage.

Thank you both for all of your positive comments. I took your point about space for food storage on board and have re-arranged things so there is some free cupboard space. Very happy to hear you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

There is everything you need for a comfortable, relaxing stay and the garden is fully enclosed/fenced if you're bringing a Dog with you too. The kitchen is well laid out, plenty of space and a large Lounge. It's deceptively spacious. There is a road that runs beside the Cottage but it's a quiet 30 mph road and we didn't notice any noise from traffic. Fantastic hot shower, massive bed, handy utility room and log burner if the evenings are cold. Underfloor heating is a gem first thing in the morning. We had a great stay here and we will definitely be looking to go back.

Thanks so much for all of your lovely comments and for such a thorough review. Look forward to welcoming you back at some point. Property Owner
