  • "A cosy cottage set in a beautiful village."

The cottage is very comfortable and met all our needs. Very well equipped. The garden area is very pretty with plenty of seating for sunny evenings. We would definitely return but we found the stairs a problem. We are older guests and for younger people it won't be an issue as there are plenty of handrails.

Blockley is a beautiful village and the cottage is walking distance to the local pub, cafe and shop. Blockley is also close to many other wonderful villages. The stairs to the bedrooms are very step but other than that the cottage is clean, warm, cosy and has everything you need!! Will definitely be back!

Thank you for sharing your kind feedback. We are very pleased to welcome you back and look forward to welcoming you back again for a third time. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "We were dismayed with the late check-in time, however, as the reason given for this was to ensure that a full 'Covid' clean could be carried out, we were expecting the cottage to be in pristine condition upon arrival."

However, we arrived to find the bin in the kitchen full of rubbish and some of the mugs were not cleaned properly, there was also a lot of dust and fluff in corners and under furniture, and a used tissue down the side of the sofa. We also had to try and find a bulb for one of the bedside lamps that wasn't working - it would be useful if these minor things could be checked prior to arrival as they make such a difference and are often overlooked. Aside from this, the facilities were excellent and the cottage was very comfortable in a fantasic location. Blockley Village is a real gem, a very quiet spot in the heart of the Cotswolds. A note on using next door's garden as an entrance to the cottage - it would be good if this was highlighted more with maybe a laminated notice put on the gate. We brought our dog and felt uncomfortable just walking through the neighbour's garden (this would be worse doing this during winter when it's dark). We felt we should knock on their door first, however there was no answer.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback on Thrower's Cottage. I sincerely apologise that the cottage was not left to our usual high cleanliness standards. We are pleased to hear that the facilities were excellent and the cottage is in a fantastic position. Property Owner

Both the house and garden were as special as we remembered; we never tired of the view from the bathroom window! While ridiculously hot during the week of our stay, there were always shady areas of the garden to be found. Very happy memories, thank you.

Thank you so much for this lovely feedback. We're delighted you enjoyed your stay again at Throwers Cottage and managed to keep cool in the garden during the recent hot spell. We hope to welcome you again. Property Owner

  • "A really wonderful cottage in a fantastic location."

You don’t often walk in to be greeted by a stunning view from the bathroom window! Impeccably, and very thoughtfully, kitted out and faultlessly clean. And of course the wonderful June sunshine really helped set off the very colourful and wel-stocked garden too. Lovely village and great walks from the door too. My only ‘but’ - echoing others - is that the 6pm start time (especially with a 10am departure time) is very late - and does seem a bit excessive: I’ve not known it anywhere else.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a descriptive feedback. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and we are looking into granting an earlier check in for guests. We look forward to welcoming you again soon. Manor cottages Property Owner

Local pub serves great food and local cafe for breakfast just a 5 minute walk away. The house has amazing views from main bedroom. The only down point is the steep staircase up to bedrooms and another staircase to kitchen diner if you struggle with stairs but very well equipped overall.

  • "Gorgeous cottage in a fantastic location."

The cottage was really cosy, especially with the woodburner lit in the downstairs sitting room, and came with everything we could need for our stay. Blockley is a lovely village with lots of great, local dog walks and the cafe in the centre is fantastic. The only complaint would be the check in time - 6pm just feels too late, especially for a short stay.

Thank you for providing us with your feedback. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Thrower's Cottage. We know that the 18:00 check-in time is late, but it is essential to make sure that all of our properties are COVID safe. We hope to reassess this as the year goes on. Pretty village, good shop and cafe, good pubs. The only drawback for us was the very steep stairs leading to the bedrooms. Had to take care going up and especially down. Otherwise a charming place to stay, with stunning views and a huge herd of deer in the adjoining field were interesting to watch.

  • "We loved our short break to Thrower's cottage."

The best bit was seeing the deer each day from the upstairs bedroom window. The cottage was very clean and was very well equipped. There was a pint of milk in the fridge, some local biscuits and basics such as coffee, tea and sugar in the cupboard. We sat in the peaceful garden reading and enjoying the tranquility. The stairs are steep but well lit with solid handrails (2 sets, one up to bedrooms and one set down to main living/dining/kitchen area and garden). We went to the community cafe on Friday night having booked a fine dining meal (Fridays only)which was excellent. The cafe is good for breakfast, brunch, snacks at other times. Shop next door. There are lots of walks from the cottage and information about these is provided. Only downside was late check in of 6pm especially as we had to leave by 10am on Monday morning. We got there a little early and cleaner was just finishing so we walked to the shop about 10 minutes away.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Unfortunately the reason for the late check in and early check out currently is due to extra cleaning needed to ensure that the property is COVID safe. However, we do hope that this did not effect your stay too much and would love to welcome you back anytime in the future. Property Owner

Unsuitability for people with mobility issues was highlighted in the description, but my husband and I are perfectly fit and able and they were a challenge to say the least. The shower is poor and beds basic. I sent an email during our stay to this effect but received no response/ acknowledgment. The garden is super however.

  • "I start this review by saying that we have stayed with Sykes before, but did not find this experience as good as previously."

The positives are that Blockley is a great base from which to explore the Cotswolds. We were lucky with the weather and spent most of our time outside. The description of the cottage is accurate, but the stairs to the 2nd floor are a challenge for anyone who is not agile. It would be a good idea to put a strip of anti-slip material on the bottom step as it is easy to miss it - particularly at night. Two of us did! The garden is lovely and a real bonus. The negatives are the late arrival time and the fact that there was no evidence of an intensive clean. Like other reviewers we found the house dusty - particularly the bedrooms - and in the lower ground floor, some of the surfaces had clearly not been wiped over as there were marks and stickiness. We started our stay by doing some cleaning and trust me, we are not Kim and Aggie who hunt out dirt….We found it disappointing that this had not been attended to given the recent comments of other reviewers. The late arrival time is not sustainable as you effectively lose the first day of your holiday. The 2 hours you would normally get from a 4pm arrival really does make a difference. Despite this, we like Blockley and will be returning to the cottage in September, but sincerely hope that we will be able to arrive for 4pm and that the cottage will have been cleaned. The stay would be better with a few matters attended to. A better vacuum cleaner is essential if you want guests to keep the cottage clean. Waste paper baskets in all rooms would be helpful, to avoid having to bring rubbish down to the LGF. The “sharp” knives were very blunt and a wider range of knives would be great. An apron in the kitchen could be provided. I say all this because Throwers Cottage could be a really great place to stay with these few matters addressed and they would not be costly to deal with.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear of the issues that you encountered during your stay and hope that they did not impact your retreat too much. We'd love to welcome you back anytime in the future. Property Owner

On day one we found dog poo in the garden, a dirty BBQ, dusty rugs and bedside tables a Hoover we had to clean out before we could use as it was full of someone else dirt and hair. The cleanliness what not up to standard and we would not book again. It certainly was not worth the amount we paid.

  • "Considering the covid deep clean and late arrival time because of it, the cottage was not as clean as we would have thought."

The fridge had not been cleaned - we cleaned it when we got there before using it. The rugs were dusty and fluffy, with dirt underneath when lifted. Otherwise the cottage was clean. The main double bed was extremely creaky - just move and it creaked - wood against wood. It needs some form of padding to supress the noise. Wakes you up as a light sleeper. Very annoying. Facilities and rest of cottage exceeded expectations - fantastic location.

Thank you for leaving feedback on your stay at Thrower's Cottage. We're very sorry to hear that the property was not cleaned to our usual high-standard. The housekeeper is aware of your experience and would like to pass on her apologies for the oversight of the fridge and rugs. Thank you for bringing these things to our attention as we now have the chance to rectify fo future guests. We're pleased to know that the other aspects of the cottage exceeded your expectations and you were able to use it as a great base to explore the local area from. Property Owner

You can observe the deer from the manicured garden sipping your morning coffee as the sun rises in front of you. You even have an amazing view from the bathroom. Blockley is an organic village and feels less touristic but more authentic. The cottage was so well equipped with a TV in each lounge and a fully stocked kitchen that we were missing nothing and immaculately cleaned. It gets a bit chilly on the ground floor so another radiator would help but the fireplace is nice to have. Maybe a hot tub in the garden in the future? The interior is so cutely updated that it is simple but perfectly fitting to the style and environment. We eventually got used to the staircase - it is not so bad as it is not slippery and has nightlight. It helps that the bathroom is on the middle floor. A dream house in wonderland.

Thank you. The cottage was very comfy, the kitchen was well equipped and the garden and views were second to none. The steep stairs to the bedrooms weren’t really a problem for us except when trying to carry suitcases, but I can see this could be a real hazard for older people or those who find stairs a challenge. The ropes and lights help (particularly at night) but clearer mention of the stairs could be made on your website. We loved the Blockley Community Shop, it really provided us with all we needed, as well as local plums, cherries etc on sale fresh each morning. Walk suggestions in your cottage handbook were much appreciated, and the location of the cottage is great for visiting the North Cotswolds. We look forward to returning soon.

Not too many tourists in this Cotswolds village, which is great! The cottage was very well decorated and furbished, the outside area was absolutely perfect with a beautiful view, bbq was great. It was really quiet, and there was everything we could have dreamt of/needed in the cottage: from washing machine / dishwasher / freezer to hair dryer / drying rack / tableware ofc / dvd, etc. There are also a lot of walk you can start from the cottage. And Blockley is a nice location to explore the Cotswolds as it's very close to high-touristic villages/attractions like Bourton on the Water, Broadway, etc. We highly recommend this cottage, and we will come back there if we visit again this beautiful region!

The only issue was the cottage could have been cleaner when we arrived. Floor and cupboards had crumbs and we encountered over flowing bins that had not been emptied outside. Whoever cleaned before we arrived did not do a great job! The cottage also needs a mop and bucket. The garden was lovely but the grass was over grown and we had to cut some of the flowers back in order to use the path. The owners need to look into this ASAP.
