  • "Dear Rita and Jim O´Neill, we´re remembering our stay with you with delight and gratitude for your genuine warmness as hosts, the immediate welcoming hominess of your cottage and most of all your wholehearted readiness to help when we got stuck in the Tipperary region because of construction work of Irish Rail."

Your cosy cottage was itself like a birdnest among all the trees with the entchanting choir of countless birds. Everybody who will be your next guests we really recommend: get up early and just step out of the door - and enjoy the birdsong - it was the first highlight already in the morning at this peaceful place. Then we started to journeys to the Glen of Aherlow, The Vee gap/ Golden Vale in the Knockmealdown Mountains and of course THE ROCK of Cashel ;o) We wish you all the best and will always remember you very fondly. We highly recommend your cottage for a very special treat of a holiday. Cordial greetings, Christine & Dieter from Germany

  • "O’Neill’s is a comfortable old cottage in scenic surroundings."

With the heating on and the fire going, it was warm even in very cold weather. The beds were comfortable and the cottage attractively furnished. Unfortunately our hosts had a relative who was very ill, so we did not see much of them, but we arrived to tea and Christmas mince pies set out for us. It would be helpful to include a photo of the entrance and the hosts’ house in the listing: arriving at night, from another country and after a drive from Dublin, we couldn’t find the house. It would also be helpful to have a welcome folder with all relevant information: the need to turn taps to full before they run, the whereabouts of the washing machine and dryer, the wifi password typed, local facilities. However, Jimmy was very pleasant when we spoke and gave us a good supply of firewood, and we sympathised with their situation. I found Sykes very unhelpful: repeated format emails were sent, with no attempt to answer my queries. The only time I received a direct communication was a phone call in the middle of the night in New Zealand regarding payment, which I regard as intrusive. I have never before used a booking site which did not allow me to communicate with a host by email and this is very inconvenient for foreign visitors.

  • "This was my third trip to Ireland ."

Having stayed in different areas , in a holiday house, the O’Neil cottage was by far the best. Rita and Jim are the perfect example of Irish hospitality. The cottage was a perfect example of a cozy, Irish cottage but with modern conveniences . It is centrally located to the many Irish landmarks, country side and pubs. My family is very grateful to the O’Neil’s for sharing their little piece of this beautiful country.

  • "Perfect Irish traditional experience!"

We just can't thank Rita and Jimmy enough for our wonderful three nights in their perfect setting. The cottage is straight out of a fairy tale and I still can't get over how neat and how much thought was put in every little detail. The cottage has three bedrooms, two upstairs that were perfect for my two teenage daughters giving them their own space. My husband and I had a ground floor adorable iron bed with the most comfortable mattress and bedding. My favorite thing was the birds in morning and at night they were singing the most beautiful songs, possibly happy Spring was in the air and we were lucky to have sunshine in March with warm days to explore Cashel and Tipperary as well as a drive to Cahir Castle which I do recommend to anyone looking for places near by. Being from Kentucky we felt so at home. The cottage is very secluded from the road and caretakers. The back farm/court yard is perfect for picnics and games. Easily you can imagine a time gone by and all the activities that took place in the farm yard. Our last morning we saw Jimmy taking a calf out of the back barn getting it ready for market, so it is a very real working farm. I loved all the dairy cows and listening to them and watching them wonder the pasture, laying in the sunshine. Rita was so cheerful when we got there and made us feel right at home with anything we could need or want. We would recommend to anyone looking for a true Irish period home or cottage. The fireplace and lighting added to the whole experience. Thank you Rita....ps...I also enjoyed reading all the comments in the guest book from way back in the 90's...there were people from all over the world. ……. Tracie Smith...Cadiz, Kentucky

  • "Great quiet location."

Great location to use as a base to travel around Rita and Jimmy where very friendly and very help full and told us about the area The roaring open fire warming the cottage up. Could have sat by that all night. As a Astrophotography the dark sky where fantastic and walking back in to that fire well.

  • "We stayed here with our 3 children over Christmas and I didn't want to leave!"

The cottage is gorgeous, the O'Neills have gone to great lengths to maintain it with modern comforts while staying in keeping with its long history. The courtyard and garden were immaculate, with views of forest and grazing cows. We had everything that we needed and more. The cottage was very warm, private and spacious enough for our three children to play happily. The O'Neill family were there to greet us with warm apple pie and a roaring fire. We could not recommend this place more and we look forward to our next stay!

  • "O'Neills cottage was absolutely fabulous and the owners (Jim and Rita) were really nice people who could not do enough for us."

The evening out I had with them at "Jim O' The Mills" pub in Upperchurch was a lifetime memory, that I will never forget and every visitor to the area should enjoy. This was a holiday in Ireland coupled with some Family History work that I wanted to undertake. It was like living my family history as the cottage was just as I pictured an Irish cottage of that era to be but with modern heating and facilities. We will most definitely be back.

  • "We had a wonderful stay at the O'Neill's cottage."

They were excellent hosts, warm and inviting and even invited us to a Thursday trad music session and let the kids watch him milking the cows. Jimmy explained the whole process to the kids and they really enjoyed. The cottage is a beautiful traditional Irish cottage, even had a stone floor. We felt like we traveled back in time and lived on a very quiet peaceful Irish farm. We hope to return some day. Thank you letting us stay with you!
