  • "Disappointing stay."

A damp house with no means of drying clothes. Broken toilet. Owner did offer to reimburse launderette charges but we were reluctant to spend our holiday in a launderette. We left a day early and would not return to this property. It was however very clean.

The property is well equipped, comfortable, within easy walking distance of Brixham town and on an excellent bus route.

  • "We were very impressed with the property, it was spacious, bright, nicely decorated and furnished."

There was space for us all to spend time together but also room for some quiet time when needed. It was only a short walk to the main shopping street and the Marina. The housekeeper met us on arrival and showed us around, she was very helpful and friendly and we had contact details if needed. We had a very enjoyable stay at Midhurst and would certainly consider booking again for another family holiday in the future.

Thank you so much for your feedback. It’s greatly appreciated. We are really pleased you had a good time and welcome you back for another stay at Midhurst. Property Owner

  • "Accommodation comfortable and large enough to suit our needs."

Some bathrooms a little on the small side but overall adequate for the family. The location is on a main road but suitable for access to the town and harbour and within easy walking distance.

  • "An excellent property for our group of 8, for several reasons: 1."

Most had their own bedroom and en-suite - not easy to find such provision. 2. What a relief to have 2 guaranteed parking spaces (for fairly large cars) on the front, and we were always able to park 2 other cars on the road opposite or in the lane round the corner. 3. Well placed for using public transport: regular no 12 bus to the harbour or to Paignton/Torquay or towards Dartmouth; we took the bus to Paignton, the steam train return to Kingswear, the short ferry to Dartmouth. A 20 minute walk to the harbour, but some of us took the bus or got a taxi back up the hill (£5 with tip). 4. Plenty of pubs and restaurants. We liked the Golden Lion, 5 minutes walk down the hill towards town - reasonably priced pub food and a pleasant atmosphere. Recommend the Albero (the fish menu is good); the Prince William has a good outlook over the harbour; the Casa Nostra Italian was pleasant. We ran out of nights to try the Rockfish with its interesting looking fish menu. 5. Spoilt for things to do: walks both ways along the coast, or round the coast from Dartmouth; drive or walk to Berry Head - the wild flowers were lovely; drive or bus to Kingswear/Dartmouth and do the river cruise to Agatha Christie's house (National Trust) and gardens; Dartmouth itself is interesting and photogenic, and the museum with focus on Thomas Newcomen and his 1712 'the world's first steam engine' is worth a visit (plus the extra free bit at the tourist office). And of course the harbour area of Brixham itself is very scenic. So yes, we can recommend the property and the area!

  • "Great property for exploring Devon."

Easy walking of Brixton harbour with lovely places to eat. Larger enough to accommodate extended family.

  • "We were a party of 8 and we had ample room in this comfortable and well equipped house."

We also liked the fact there was off-road parking for two family cars. We appreciated the housekeeper greeting us on arrival and her quick tour of the house and we also found her (and the owners) extremely helpful and responsive when we had a small issue part way through the week. The cottage is in an excellent position to explore locally and we had some great day trips where we didn’t need to use the car as places were very accessible by foot and public transport. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others.

  • "We had a wonderful stay at midhurst."

The house was prefect for our group of 9. Kitchen well stocked with crockery, cutlery, pots and pans. Easy walk to the harbor. As the description says the garden is on tiers so not suitable for the whole group in one area, sitting for 6 people. The description does say no animals but in the house it does say dogs are allowed with prior approval. The stairs up to the top floor are steep and narrow steps, not suitable for the elderly. I would definitely book again if I’m in the area.

Thank you so much for leaving us such a nice review. We are really glad that you enjoyed your stay at Midhurst and would be happy to host you again. Best wishes. Property Owner

  • "The accommodation was very well equipped for our party of ten across three generations."

It was warm and comfortable, provided plenty of scope for a game of hide and seek on a wet afternoon, was convenient for the short walk into town and also convenient for several National Trust properties, tourist attractions and coastal walks. We had a very enjoyable family holiday and would recommend the property to anyone seeking a holiday in this area. The travel instructions from Sykes Holidays were rather strange, there is no need to go across the ferry from Dartmouth to Kingswear to get to Brixham wherever you are coming from!! Once in Brixham, the property is easy to find and has ample parking for two cars and other parking available on the road outside.

Thank you so much for your review - it means so much to us all. We are glad you enjoyed your stay! Property Owner

  • "Midhurst is a beautiful property and we have had the best stay."

All the rooms are lovely and big and the beds were extremely comfortable! Location of the property was perfect, within walking distance of Brixham and all its lovely pubs and restaurants. There’s a bus stop just outside of the house to get the bus to Paignton and Torquay every 10-15 mins which was perfect. The only slight negative we found was that the garden was overgrown which impacted on the space for 10 of us to sit out, also there wasn’t enough garden furniture to seat us all, but this wouldn’t stop us booking again, overall it was brilliant. Thanks for a great week.

  • "We were extremely disappointed with our stay and had to raise issues from day one."

Kettle was dangerous as it just kept boiling, no washing bowl and no plug in sink. They were the small issues. Radiators broken and one on permanently which was unpleasant with it being warm outside! Not cleaned properly, crisps and dust found in drawers, balloons and dirt under sofa. Don’t get me started on the mould! In the kitchen under the sink, in the lean to, in the boiler cupboard and in the wardrobes. We couldn’t even hang our clothes (had to live hour of a suitcase). There is clearly a problem that needs addressing to stop the mould long term. Owners say they have cleaned it but unless treated properly this will come back! Facilities - there might be enough sleeping facilities for 11 but downstairs does not accommodate this. The kitchen is not big enough, table cannot seat 11 even if using the breakfast bar. No cupboards to put food in and only one small fridge (not enough space for 11). The pictures are deceiving and make this property look better than it is. For the amount we paid we would not come back and would not recommend this for families or anyone with health problems.

We are really sad to read this feedback and are sorry to read that your time at Midhurst wasn’t as you had hoped. We are glad to have the opportunity to respond - your feedback needs to be put into context so as to give an accurate picture and reassure future guests that Midhurst is actually a wonderful holiday let. Of most importance, we would like to stress: Midhurst provides ample space for 11 guests. There are 2 sitting rooms and a kitchen/diner that has seating for 11. There is also an additional table and some chairs in the utility. Sykes is a reputable company and they would not advertise the house for 11 f it wasn’t possible for 11 to sit down to eat, and they would not provide misleading photographs of the house either. We regularly have groups of up to 11 guests and we have not ever had anyone complain about the accommodation. It is exactly as you’d expect from the description - it is a semi detached townhouse! If you want an enormous dining room you’re probably going to have to pay quite a lot more for a much larger, detached property. Other issues: The kettle and washing up bowl were sorted within hours of your arrival. 2 radiator valves were broken by previous guests. We offered to get the mended immediately but you were happy to leave it until you left. You didn’t raise the issue with the radiator that was on, if you had we could have helped. As it turns out, it wasn’t broken, it only needed to be turned off. The Electrian mended the broken 2 valves after you left. We have never been aware of any mould in the property and you did not raise this when you were at the house. If you had told us, we would have sorted it out immediately. We have now given all the wardrobes a thorough refresh and have treated the back of the cupboard under the sink. We work very hard to maintain high standards of cleanliness at Midhurst. We are committed to customer service and can assure you that if there is ever a problem we will resolve it as soon as possible. Midhurst is a lovely holiday let and it is very reasonably priced. We are sorry you didn’t enjoy the house as so many others have. It’s a shame you didn’t think to reach out to us, Sykes or our housekeeper during your stay - if you had we would have helped. Despite your review, you chose to remain at the house for the week and so we are glad you didn’t lose out on your holiday. Best wishes Lucy & Mark Property Owner
