  • "Need a couple of smaller pans."

Shower needs a little tlc. Ideally need a chest of drawers in main bedroom. Bbq would be good despite close locality of trees. Would have liked a view, photos don't show limited view of a hedge. Having said all that we did enjoy our stay!

Only thing I could say about the cottage is more saucepans and the shower had a slight leak apart from that highly recommended cottage for peace and quite

  • "We spent 2 weeks at Oak Barn and we loved the space in the property."

It is very quiet here and good for walking in the area around the property. Our host Helen was very helpful and showed us around the grounds. The property is about 3 miles from Kingsbridge, which is a lovely and interesting town, with Supermarkets and restaurants available.

  • "Fantastic stay from beginning to end."

A beautiful barn, so well planned and homely. Everything worked well and we felt so comfortable. Although in the middle of nowhere, we loved the quietness and back to nature feel of the place. We look forward to a return visit!

  • "One of our party was a wheelchair user, with limited walking ability, which for this property would be essential."

Although the listing does not mention disabled suitability the property on the whole was very suitable. We did speak to the owner, and made some suggestions on how the property could be further improved for disabled people, which was taken on board.

  • "Not that clean; broken toilet seat suggesting it was not properly cleaned; lots of cobwebs and hair on floor round table leg in living area."

Sofas were horribly uncomfortable and marked and one was quite grubby. The property is nice and away from it all but it fely very closed in as there is a small grassy area completely enclosed by high hedging. There was no openness or view other than hedge. When we booked there was no mention of no BBQ allowed. I rang about this when we were there to check and to ask this gets added to the website, which it now has been. All in all quite disappointing.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are pleased you liked the property. We can only apologise that the toilet seat was broken on your arrival ; please know that this had not been reported by previous occupants or by housekeeping who visited before you arrived. We immediately offered to come and replace it, but you were happy for us to do this at the end of your stay. Unfortunately BBQs are not permitted because the property is a barn constructed in oak in a peaceful woodland setting. This was stated on the website at the time and also advised when you asked whether , despite this, one could be used. We recognise that there are personal preferences regarding sofas and their comfort and the owner had regard to this when furnishing the property. Thank you for the other points you have mentioned. Oak Barn was redecorated throughout this year and as cleanliness remains paramount your comments have been fed back to the cleaner concerned. We do hope you had a lovely holiday despite the matters you raised and enjoyed all the beautiful area has to offer. Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Oak barn."

We were a family of 4 with 2 kids, 8 and 12. The property was extremely spacious and comfortable. Fixtures and fittings were of a high quality. Comfy sofa and beds, excellent TV and sound system, etc. Location was very peaceful and rural but close enough to everywhere we wanted to visit. We especially liked Salcombe, Polperro, Torquay and Dartmouth We enjoyed evening walks up to the old church and the excellent panoramic views of the rolling countryside from there. Enjoyed listening to the birds whilst breakfasting outside in the morning. We would highly recommend this holiday home.

  • "We loved our time at Oak Barn."

It is very comfortable, even luxurious, and exactly as it looks in the photos. It is very well appointed and equipped. It is very quiet and peaceful. Downsides? No view and not much space outside. But these didn't detract from our enjoyment of the property. Highly recommended.

  • "A lovely secluded property set in a private estate with very little road noise, the sound of the birds singing and the breeze rustling through the trees was very peaceful."

Some might find the narrow lanes challenging but we had no difficulty.

  • "The barn was beautiful, it is so well designed and laid out."

We were there during some storms and we felt cosy and secure inside, we didn’t even need the heating on! The layout feels spacious and light with lovely windows and high ceilings. We had everything we needed and it was spotless. Good beds and nice shower! The owners were friendly when we saw them but were not intrusive; when we had a small problem they sorted it immediately. There were lovely beaches and places to visit but the roads in this part of Devon are quite challenging-very narrow with high sides and not many passing places. But that’s Devon!

  • "General cleanliness was poor on arrival including not only cobwebs but also hairs and staining on the shower tray."

Wi-Fi information poor and not known by your staff on initial phone call nor on 2nd call to office. After 3 phone calls to your office it was arranged for a cleaner to visit who on arrival was very pleasant and did an excellent job including being able to advise correct code for wi-fi! Previous advice was to check router but no router visible! Vacuum cleaner was full of previous occupant(s) dust and debris whilst the washing machine was mouldy where drum attached to casing. Uncomfortable sofa and mattress of king size could do with upgrade. It is a shame that we found the above negatives as the property is located in a lovely and peaceful part of the coutryside.

We are pleased you enjoyed your stay and liked the location of Oak Barn. Thank you for the time taken to leave your feedback. We have now included additional instructions for the Wi-Fi and the office has these instructions. As you will appreciate, we work very hard with our housekeepers to ensure high standards of cleanliness are maintained and the housekeeper visited at your request to ensure the property was presented to your satisfaction. The weekly deep clean will be checked as a matter of course. We are surprised to read your comments regarding the washing machine drum, sofa and king-size mattress as these were all new at the start of the season and are of good quality. Nevertheless we do recognise there are personal preferences regarding mattresses and sofas and we will endeavour to ensure they are not too firm. Property Owner

About the location

KINGSBRIDGE

Salcombe 5 miles; Bantham 5 miles; Dartmouth 12 miles; Totnes 13 miles; Plymouth 20 miles.

The busy little town of Kingsbridge lies at the head of a marine estuary in the attractive South Hams area of South Devon. Kingsbridge is home to a range of lovely independent shops and coffee shops, as well as a 3-screen cinema and an award-winning pub. During the summer season there are estuary excursions by ferry to Salcombe which lies on the banks of the Kingsbridge Estuary, making it one of the prettiest towns in South Devon. Salcombe is famous for its outstanding coastal views, rolling countryside, and is a watersports paradise for kayaking, surfing, paddle boarding and powerboating. It is packed with boutique shops, high street brands and independent producers, restaurants serving freshly caught seafood, and Salcombe Gin and Ice cream! Kingsbridge is perfectly located as a base to enjoy the abundant wildlife in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), which also forms part of the South Devon Heritage Coast. Visitors can take a walk along the Kingsbridge Quay, wander through the narrow alleys off Fore Street or visit the Shambles in Totnes, an Elizabethan market arcade. Around the South Hams area there are picturesque ports, such as Dartmouth and Salcombe, together with sandy beaches at Blackpool Sands near Stoke Fleming and the two sandy beaches at Thurlestone. There are a host of small attractive villages in South Hams offering interesting pubs, local farm produce shops and pretty rows of cottages, plus further afield the waterfront city of Plymouth is a vibrant centre, housing the National Marine Aquarium, historic Barbican Quay and plenty of night life, including theatres, restaurants and bars. Kingsbridge can be easily reached by train to Totnes and then a local bus service which will take you to Kingsbridge town centre.

Please note that the property is located on a small estate and gardeners might be present during your stay but they will not enter the garden of Oak Barn whilst you are at the property.

Please note that due to this being a timber barn set in natural woodlands, for safety reasons BBQs are not permitted.
