  • "This is a beautiful propery with spacious rooms."

It is tastefully decorated and the bed was very comfortable. The kitchen is well equiped and we cooked several meals in the large kitchen. The owners left a lovely bunch of flowers to welcome us to Lower Culvermead. There is plenty of hot water. There is a small enclosed courtyard garden which our pet enjoyed. The cottage is sited in a quiet location very close to Tavistock, which is our favourite side of the moor. So that was brilliant! Our visit was in October and we noted that the central heating and bathroom towel rail is controlled by the owner, so you cannot just put it on if you feel chilly, or showering outside of the programmed settings. The owners advise that you text them if you wish the heating to be put on outside of its usual settings. During our stay the heating was on for 2hrs in the morning and 4hrs in the evening. The range was not in use. We thought that the range would make the property really warm during the winter months. There were no instructions on how to use it and it looked as though it had not been used for a long time. There were a couple of oil filled radiators for use if you felt chilly. We managed fine, as the central heating once on, was very warming. Our preference is to be able to control the heating, especially if you holiday during colder months. Although in the summer this would not be a consideration. We missed not having a brush and dustpan to easily sweep up crumbs etc from the kitchen, rather than having to use the vacuum. We enjoyed our stay and Rupert was very friendly and accommodating.

  • "We have stayed in many cottages through the years and we agree that this one goes to the top of our list."

It is beautifully appointed, roomy, warm and comfortable and the owners went out of their way to see that all went well. We spent much of our time sitting in the spacious and light kitchen with its big table. It is a bit off the beaten track but the surrounding countryside is beautiful and the nights are so quiet. There are lovely walks and a field across the road where one can sit for afternoon tea or to watch the sun set. The market town of Tavistock is nearby and worthy of many a visit for eating and shopping. For a peaceful holiday, we would highly recommend a stay at Lower Culvermead. Very large lower floor part of house Which across from a little lane as a field where you can can sit ant relax aswel as a small court yard , We only saw the hosts a couple of times , and the they were pleasant people who would quite happily help with anything you needed Our only down side was the tv in the lounge was not a good picture but they had left us notice of the issue and there wa a second one in the bedroom The main issue was the shower screen was so small water went literally everywhere Other than this we enjoyed our stay very much

Thank you for your feedback. The guests who stayed just before you had a mishap with the shower screen unfortunately and we could not order and replace a new one in time for your arrival. This will be rectified next week when the house is empty for a few weeks. sorry this created a problem for you. The TV is also going to be replaced. Was lovely to meet you. Claire Property Owner

The amenities are excellent and cleanliness is very good. Tavistock is a lovely traditional town with a good choice of restaurants , our JR dog was made welcome in most places and loved the field opposite . We will certainly like to return one day.

  • "The most spacious holiday home that we have ever rented."

We would have liked more contact with the owners. The only time we spoke to them was a few minutes before departure.

It was a shame we did not meet you both until the end of your stay. Usually we bump into our guests much more, but as we like to respect people's privacy, we don't go out of our way to say hello! Glad you enjoyed the space our property offers. Property Owner

Tavistock and Dartmoor are just down the road. The cottage is really spacious, clean and comfortable with everything you need , The highlight is the walled in courtyard which is a real suntrap and perfect for having a glass of wine in the evening(or any other time of day!!) . The owners are really lovely and cannot do enough to help if you have a question. I would definitely recommend this cottage and we will certainly go back.

We had a lovely time. The cottage is excellent, spacious, comfortable and has everything you need for a stay away from home. Loved the little courtyard and the bedroom was a delight with the super comfortable bed. Lovely field just across the road for exercising the dog but not totally secure so couldn't run off the lead A great base for exploring the area. All in all an excellent place to stay. Would not hesitate to recommend and would love to come back again.

  • "We have just spent a glorious week at Lower Culvermead, a property that dates back to the 1400's."

Set in rural Devon countryside it is an escapists dream, no planes, no over-bearing road noise, just perfect peace. We took our dog, Fergus, who took full advantage of the field, permitted access with the booking The property itself is capacious consisting of large lounge, well-fitted kitchen , a beautiful bedroom with a good sized en-suite. The decor of the whole property is of a high standard. Our feeling was of a trip back in time with all the luxury of modern conveniences. Our favourite part of the property was the secluded courtyard, which is a real sun-trap in the afternoon. The garden room is cool and comfortable, a great place to sit and read. The owners, Claire and Ru are friendly and approachable, they have created a wonderful holiday let, situated off the beaten track, nevertheless it is a property well worth the visit. We are already making plans to return

Claire & Rupert were great hosts nothing was too much trouble . The bed was very comfortable & good shower , plenty of hot water . Lots of crockery & so many cupboards , large fridge/freezer. The courtyard & garden room was delightful as was the field opposite to relax at the end of the day . Exactly as the pictures state . Not much Wi-Fi but no problem . Narrow lanes but then didn’t have any traffic - silent & very peaceful . Heard the owls in the night . Tavistock is a great town. 7 days brilliant sunshine

  • "We had a lovely stay at Lower Culvermede, thank you."

The rooms were well proportioned and the decoration was modern in a historic setting. We have ordered the same duvet for our own bed earlier today. The property had everything we needed for the week with the added bonus of the field opposite to throw a ball for our dog. The weather was changeable so we didn’t make use of the private courtyard, but I imagine it would be good for breakfast. The cottage is well placed to visit various places in Devon and Cornwall. There were lots of leaflets and we particularly enjoyed Buckfast Abbey, walks on Dartmoor, dog friendly beaches, Boscastle harbour (we visited Tintagel Castle previously), and we had a good lunch at Royal William’s Yard. Tavistock has a few dog friendly cafes and was very handy for shops. Next time I visit I hope to visit all the lovely churches in the area.
