  • "Our second stay as we stayed last year!"

The facilities and grounds are all of a very high standard Unfortunately last year and this year almost all the members of our party got quite severe stomach upsets Some vomiting some diarrhoea and some with both!! It seems like quite a coincidence to happen twice We are all a little confused and concerned as some of our party have compromised immunity We couldn’t find why or how this happened the first time last year and even more with our stay this year Some are still recovering from the effects Shame as we probably won’t go back next year which is unfortunate as it suits our needs as we usually do at least one big family holiday a year sometimes two !! Never with any sickness

  • "We chose Maristow Barton for a family reunion holiday - we all congregated there from all over the country (15 of us and a dog) from Nottingham, Peterborough, London and Cornwall."

So Devon seemed a good mid point to meet and spend time together. We spent hours together in the large well equipped kitchen playing music and creating great food for evening meals after visiting the great places of interest - our agreed favourite place being Lydford gorge(Devils cauldron entrance). Everyone comfortably sat around the huge dining table where we would feast and drink merry. We all loved our rooms and slept well on comfortable beds. What’s not to like - will recommend.

Thank you for the feedback, I’m glad you had an enjoyable family reunion at the house. The staff work hard to maintain standards and appreciate the positive comments. Hope to see you again. Property Owner

  • "An extremely nice property in a beautiful area."

Our party was only 10; if all bedrooms had been required, it could have been a little inconvenient for those having to use the top floor room with a slipper bath and washbasin in one cupboard and toilet in another. However, we all enjoyed a wonderful weekend and would return.

Thank you for the feedback, we try to maintain good standards for guests and always looking for things to improve our guest experience. Hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

Set in a beautiful quite location, we explored and completed many walks and days out to the lovely beaches near by. The Games room was great and the only thing I would say would have been useful would have been a gate on the actual garden area so that we could let the dogs run totally free but we had gone equipped with long leads so it did not deter in anyway from our enjoyment. Thank You.

16 of us stayed for a week and celebrated a special birthday. A very well equipped house, beds all comfortable and plenty of hot water for all the bathrooms. Couldn't fault a thing. Our guests loved it. Handy to have the Who'd Have Thought It a mile away. We had 2 very good meals there. Would highly recommend this property.

The bedrooms and lounge/dinning area were very comfortable. The second floor bedrooms did get very warm, but it was extremely hot outside. The ice machine and water cooler were a definite plus for us during the heatwave. The neighbours were very friendly and helpful. It was perfect for our family holiday.

  • "A wonderful house, with all major needs catered for."

In a beautiful setting, surrounded by the beautiful Devon countryside. Just a short journey to places of interest, and coastal beaches. The house itself caters extremely well for large parties, or large families. A short walk to Lopwell Dam, where the water is inviting enough to swim or paddle boarding, good for smaller boats such as kayaking too. The house itself is full of interesting features, and is well equipped with chilled water dispenser which was most appreciated as it was so hot. This visit is the second one my whole family and I have enjoyed together, as it is so beautiful.

  • "Maristow Barton is a very comfortable and spacious house that is ideal for groups going on holiday together."

With our 12-strong trip the adults occupied the 4 bedrooms on the first floor and the kids the rooms on the level above. That division worked well. The house's location is excellent: not far from both the coast and Plymouth but also in an area of great beauty, with a pine forest, river and the Lopwell Dam just down the road. We felt we had the best of all worlds, with the calm of our rural tranquility, ease of 45 to 60-minute drives to coastal villages and beaches and quick access to Dartmoor. I would strongly recommend booking Maristow Barton.

It is in a beautiful, though very away-from-it-all location, which was exactly what we wanted but the hilly, narrow lanes may not suit everyone. The host was very pleasant and helpful and quick to respond if we contacted with a query and offered lots of useful information on the local area and facilities. We loved our break in this lovely part of Devon and would definitely recommend to anyone who needs a bit of tranquility.

  • "The description of the house was misleading - it implied there is a jetty adjoining the house, and there wasn’t."

We brought boats specifically. The kitchen was clearly set up to cater for large groups. It wasn’t a comfortable communal space - one chair, nowhere to sit while others were cooking. There was an underlying level of dirt in the kitchen. Having said that, the beds were very comfortable.

The quality of the interior, the furniture and the furnishings was all very good indeed. The location is great as well, within the Tamar Valley AONB, adjacent to Dartmoor and close to Plymouth. All in all a very enjoyable experience.

Description of outside space was a little misleading and the garden furniture shown in the pictures didn’t seem to exist. This didn’t matter greatly to us and did not spoil our stay but worth noting.

The Owners are delighted that you had an enjoyable stay at Maristow Barton. The previous guests to yourselves moved the garden furniture to the front garden. Property Owner

It's in a beautiful location and we all arrived without any problems. It would have been helpful with instructions for cookers how to use as this took us some time to work out. Also helpful would be a information folder with everything in one place for quick reference. Although it did not detract from the quality of our stay the games room was not as advertised. If people were staying with younger children this may have been very disappointing if they were relying on this to keep children entertained.

House was lovely but the only thing we were disappointed with was the games room - we couldn’t play darts as they were broken and bent and couldn’t play pool as the cues didn’t have any tips. Apart from that the stay was perfect. The Dartmoor Inn did a superb meal for us on one of the days so the recommendation to use them was excellent. Many thanks for your help.
