  • "The Watchers A lovely clean house, great views, impossible road and parking, dreadful outside space!"

We got the car, which is a hatchback, up to the Watchers on arrival and then braved it back down to the car park at the bottom the following morning. Costing us an additional £38 over the week, it was better to leave the car in the main car park. The road to the house is ridiculously steep and narrow and depending on the parking of others is impossible. The outside space to the rear (you can’t use the front) is overgrown, narrow and in the wet a hazard. We only have a very small dog and there wasn’t even enough room for her to run and the garden is not enclosed. There were cigarettes ends, bottle tops and plastic left by the BBQ. It didn’t matter as we couldn’t use it anyway. The 30ish steps up to the house need urgent repair, these also pose a hazard. Inside the house, the views are delightful, great facilities, lovely welcome pack and decorated to a high standard. Beds comfy with the softest linen. Overall we wouldn’t recommend, especially with small children, dogs etc. despite the lovely house and views, we’d not book this again.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent stay at The Watchers. We're pleased to hear that the house was clean, and you enjoyed the delightful views, and comfortable amenities we strive to provide. It's wonderful to know that the welcome pack and our high-quality linens added to your comfort. However, we're sorry to learn about the challenges you faced. We understand that the narrow and steep lanes in Cornwall can be daunting, especially if you're not accustomed to them. While many roads in the area are similarly structured, we appreciate that this may have impacted your stay, and we'll look into providing clearer information regarding access and parking options. Regarding the outside space, we apologise for any inconvenience. Although the garden isn't advertised as enclosed, we value your feedback about its condition. We genuinely appreciate your insights, as they help us improve our guest experience. Property Owner

  • "First the positives - fantastic views over the river Fowey."

The property was well equipped, had well appointed bathrooms and the bed was very comfortable. An easy walk to the local pub which serves excellent food. Not so positive was the very tight and narrow approach leading to the property and difficulty parking (only sufficient for one car). There was an extremely steep and long flight of concrete steps leading up to the house (some with crumbling edges) that would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues or with very young children. The rear garden was also very steep with 2 flights of steps up to the decking area that were easy to navigate.

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your recent stay with us. We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the fantastic views over the river Fowey, found the property well-equipped with comfortable amenities, and appreciated the easy walk to the local pub with excellent food. We are sorry to learn about the challenges you faced regarding the tight and narrow approach to the property and the parking situation. As our property is located in a quaint Cornish village, some of the roads can be narrow, which adds to the charm but can also present difficulties. We do mention in the details sent prior to arrival that there is parking available for only one car at the property. Parking is at a premium in Cornwall, but there is additional parking available in the village. We are always happy to assist guests with information on parking options to make their stay more convenient. Thank you once again for your constructive comments. We hope that, despite the inconveniences, you had an overall enjoyable stay. Should you decide to visit the area again, we would love the opportunity to welcome you back and provide an even better experience. Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely house in a beautiful area."

It was seriously let down by a overgrown, neglected garden, definitely not worthy of 5 stars. The paving slabs were slippery, stinging nettles were growing through the decking. One of the steps on the decking was broken, the bbq area was overgrown. Hand rails by the stairs could not be used due to thorns. Sending someone to do 2hrs in the garden did not solve these problems. Our holiday was booked at this property as we wanted to be able to use a garden but couldn't. If you are booking this property, it is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues or with young children as the 30 stairs you have to go up make it tricky. The view would have been spectacular had the windows been cleaned. Some kitchen essentials like a tin opener and oven gloves were missing. I really hope the garden gets the attention it needs to make it usable for future stays, it would then be worthy of its rating.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent stay at our property. We're pleased to hear that you found the house lovely and enjoyed the beautiful area. However, we're sorry to learn about the issues you encountered. The condition of the garden and overgrown BBQ area, is not acceptable. We appreciate that you brought these concerns to our attention during your stay, and we promptly sent a gardener within 24 hours who spent a substantial amount of time addressing the issues you raised. Our gardener checked with you to ensure everything was satisfactory and reported that you were happy with the work done. We apologise if the garden still did not meet your expectations, and we regret that we were not made aware that further assistance was needed. Regarding the missing kitchen essentials like a tin opener and oven gloves, we sincerely apologise for the oversight. These items have now been replaced. Had we known during your stay, we would have been more than happy to provide them promptly to enhance your comfort. Regarding the stairs leading up to the house, we aim to highlight this in our property description to inform guests about potential accessibility challenges. Golant is a small fishing village with steep access, which adds to its charm but can present difficulties for those with mobility issues or young children. Your feedback is invaluable, and we will continue to make improvements to enhance our guests' experience. Property Owner

  • "We arrived at The Watchers to find that it hadn’t been cleaned."

The beds were unmade. There was a broken wine glass on the side and the previous visitors had left bowls and pans on the draining board. No toilet roll in one bathroom. Towel holders empty. Hoover on the worktop. Tea towels just plonked on the side. Crumbs on the worktop in the kitchen and bits all over the floor. I called the first number and there was no answer. I called the second number and this was answered. I explained the situation and she asked if she could call me back when she found out what had happened. She did and said she didn’t know what had happened but would send two cleaners within the hour. They didn’t arrive so I called. Signal was bad so I sent a message. The reply was ‘10 mins x’. They eventually arrived probably an hour and a half later. They were very apologetic (and brought two bottles of wine to say sorry) they brought a young baby in a car seat which was put on the floor downstairs. I understand they may have been called in at very late notice but we then had to make sure the two dogs weren’t walking around so had to have them on our laps. The outside patio area was quite messy and the glass on the table was filthy and not on the table properly. In general the whole outside is very overgrown and messy. And one of us walked down the wooden stairs and it cracked. It was a very stressful start to what was an emotional family weekend to scatter my parents ashes at Sennen Cove, and was totally unacceptable.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are deeply sorry for the unacceptable condition of the property upon your arrival and the inconvenience it caused during such an important weekend for your family. Please accept our sincerest apologies for the missed cleaning and delays in addressing the issue. We are investigating how this happened to prevent it in the future. Your feedback is invaluable, and we are taking immediate steps to improve our services. Property Owner

As per 1st night review the property had the promised views and the interior was lovely and spacious to be able to cook and sit back and enjoy the view The issues where outside the list says narrow lane with turning area but the turning area says no turning and is chained off, so you need to hope the other houses are empty and use their drives/parking to turn in as you won’t want to try to reverse out And the property out side is neglected weeds everywhere grass not cut and deck area unusable as slippy and the steps up to the deck not been even and also slippy

Thank you for your feedback about your recent stay. We're glad you enjoyed the views and found the interior spacious and comfortable. We apologise for the issues you encountered outside the property, including confusion about the narrow lane and turning area, as well as the neglected outdoor areas. We'll update our property description for clarity and address the maintenance concerns promptly. Your input is valuable, and we hope to provide you with a better experience in the future.
