  • "We had a wonderful stay at the Hide Out."

Nick and Donna were friendly and helpful but also left us to ourselves. It’s lovely inside and beautifully decorated. The kitchen is well equipped for self catering. Everything is very comfortable especially the bed and the chairs. The garden is also very pretty and there are lots of comfortable places to sit, including a lovely hammock, and admire the views which are spectacular. Our only reservation is the steps to to the hideout, although safe are a bit steep for anyone with mobility issues. We are in our mid seventies and my husband had a hip replacement recently so we found this a bit of a challenge. We managed though and our daughter and grandchildren had no problem. It is walkable to Totnes town centre on the road and there is a steep path down for the fit and agile.

Thank you for your lovely review Jenny. It was nice to meet you and hope to see you again but next time The Cabin! Property Owner

  • "Cabin was perfect for the two of us and our dog."

The cabin has everything you need and the host was very welcoming and helpful. Great location, with beautiful views and a short walk into town.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. It was nice to meet you and we look forward to welcoming you back sometime. Property Owner

  • "What an amazing find!"

We had a wonderful stay at the hideout. Perfect for us and our dog, Polly. There was everything we needed and the owners were lovely. We will return and highly recommend it to anyone seeking peace and a central location.

Thank you Janet for your review. I am so pleased you enjoyed yourself and we hope to see you both and Polly again sometime in the future. Property Owner

  • "The cabin is compact but very comfortable with some nice touches."

Nice bottle of wine left by the owners and shampoo/conditioner and liquid soap in the bathroom, plus dog treats and chocolate biscuits. It has all the facilities required such as small oven, microwave and toaster. The bed is comfy, It is a slight trek down to the cabin around another property and over two lawns with stones on to make getting to it easier. Also to get to town, you can go down another field, through a gate and you need to grab onto some rope to get to the path. I thought this quite exciting like an Enid Blyton book. The cabin is not for the infirm. This is made clear in the description. It is definitely like being cut off from the world and I would return. Views are amazing. There are binoculars at the property. The owners made contact a couple of times to make sure everything was ok. Not much power in the shower. Also pack light as there isn’t much storage space for belongings. We were lucky with the weather and it’s nice to sit out on the deck.

Thank you very much for your review. So glad your enjoyed the adventure. We have added a storage box outside after your comments and also installed a bigger fridge which is more convenient. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful wooden cabin overlooking the river Dart."

Perfect location especially as we didn't have a car (5 minutes walk to Totnes centre via the field and on the Sharpham Estate walking path). Small but had everything we needed including an outdoor bbq which we were lucky enough to use. We were lucky with the weather but the outdoor dining/bbq area is under a canopy and you can still be outside even it it rains. The fridge is on the small side (camping size) but I believe it will be changed to a larger one. Our hosts Nick and Donna were very nice and helpful and even gave us a lift into town on the day of our departure, thank you! We really loved the cabin and its position and will definitely be back :)

Thank you for your lovely review. We really appreciate it and we look forward to seeing you again. Property Owner

  • "Peaceful elevated position and well positioned to explore the south devon area."

Ideal for a short break. Numerous steps up to the parking area, so not really suitable for those with mobility issues, but we knew this, and coped with it. Relaxed and recharged.

Thank you for your review and so sorry we didn’t get to meet you. Glad you had a nice time. Property Owner

  • "The listing is accurate."

You do need to be fairly fit as the steps are steep and the walk back from town is hilly. Ideal for the spring & summer, but we were unlucky with the weather.

Thank you for your feedback. Such a shame about the stormy wet weather. Hopefully you can come back in the summer. Property Owner

  • "Wonderful few days at Hideout, its ideal for someone who is fit and healthy, as its situated on a slope."

The views of Totnes and river are worth the climb , giving you the perfect feeling of being tucked away from the town , but close enough that your fish and chips are still hot to enjoy on the wooden terrace, on your return. The accommodation is small ( think studio ) but everything is well thought out and you want for nothing. It's well designed and very clean and welcoming .

Thank you so much for your lovely review. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Property Owner

  • "The accommodation is fairly basic and all in one room, there is no ventilation other than having the door open."

It is tastefully decorated and furnished and is in a great location with excellent views over the Dart Valley. Access is via about 4o steps down from the parking space - so being able bodied is essential, this does mean that the Hide Out is very quiet and secluded. There are trails at the bottom of the steep garden along valley and into Totnes - (down a very steep bank to get to them) The owners were very helpful and dealt with some minor issues immediately. Cooking faculties are very basic , though there is an outdoor bar b q and smoker that we did not use.

Thank you for your feedback. We understand Hideout is not everyone’s cup of tea and is indeed a wooden cabin in a field and on a hillside! I have asked for this to be made clear on our property details. New opening window is now planned for the future. Property Owner

  • "The Hideout was just perfect!"

We wanted somewhere secluded, peaceful and dog friendly and we got exactly that. It’s a bit of a trek to get there (this is made clear in property description) but worth it. The Hideout had everything we needed, somewhere to cook, eat, a comfy bed, shower and a veranda with stunning views. Only just got back and already thinking about our next visit!

Thank you so much for your lovely review. It means so much as you were the very first guests! Would love to see you back again… Property Owner
