  • "The House was nice and comfortable."

Lots of useful items present. Unfortunately there was only one adult tennis racket present. The heated floor in the downstairs bathroom was very nice. The upstairs shower was rather mouldy which was a shame, and the blinds of the velux windows often got stuck. There was an unpleasant smell when the washing machine was in use (I believe the pipes could use a clean). Overall the stay was very enjoyable and we would go back in future. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

Thank you for taking the time to write your comments. I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay, and found the cottage comfortable and well equipped. We don't supply sports equipment as people usually bring their own, but this racket is there just to help out. There is a new set of table tennis bats. We stayed at the cottage last week, and agree there was mould in the upstairs shower, due to the safety non-slip mat being left wet. As for the Velux blinds, renewing them is unfortunately not a viable proposition. We used the washing machine and didn't find any odour. Maybe it hadn't been used for a while. We would be very pleased if you decide to come back again, despite these inconveniences! Property Owner

The cottage is very well equipped and in a great location. The weather when we stayed was certainly wet for most of the week, but there is so much to explore so just make sure you have the right clothes if the forecast indicates it might be needed :)

The cottage is clean, warm and well equiped. Please be aware there are some very narrow roads in the, area and ignore your satnav!

Thank you for your comments, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. You're quite right about the roads, but they are part of the reason why the South Hams are so different from more "civilised" regions of England, and there is a warning in the description on the website! Property Owner

  • "The house is in a bigger complex than we thought when looking at the area from Google."

But it was still quiet and friendly, so not a real issue. However the roads in and out of the location are those typical farm area roads that are just about wide enough for one car, and not everyone drives well on them. Had several near miss incidents. So be aware that while the house and facilities are exactly as desribed travelling in and out is not great.

) There was space for them to play. They and their parents and uncle loved the tennis court and ping pong table in the games room. There is a lovely beach (Stoke) about three quarters of a mile away where we all spent fun time. Great pubs in Noss Mayo which is a very attractive village. We all had a great holiday.

  • "Lovely place, thank you for letting us stay there!"

Fantastic place to stay with great facilities. Quiet out of season. Lovely nature walks and small villages everywhere. Saw Roe deer two days in a row in a field between Holbeton and A379. Beautiful narrow lanes across the whole area which required some artistic driving of a large car (could be a nightmare in peak season or bank holidays I'd imagine!) The permanent retractable stair gate from the lounge was a great subtle feature, not sure if they could be on all points of the stairs (but we did note there were removable stair gates in the cupboard that could be fitted). There are a lot of stairs at the property, but two bedrooms and a bathroom on the ground floor too. Overbeck garden (Salcombe) and Wembury beach were to be recommended but having National Trust membership will save you a lot of money in entry and parking fees. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable week!

Thank you for taking the time to write such a full feedback, we agree with your comments. It's true, the lanes are challenging! We are glad that you like the cottage and had a good holiday. Property Owner

Best day was at Dartmoor zoo and loved the morning walks on Stoke beach. The little touches of milk etc and toiletries was so kind. Only negative were the sofas had my 90 year old mother in law with us and she had to sit on a dining chair because they were too low.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We have been trying to renew the sofas for two years now, but Covid and supply problems made itimpossible to coincide with our visits . However, they are being renewed this week while we are staying here, so I hope that they won't be too low for future guests. Property Owner

the sofas have seen better days but not a big deal. you do have to drive if you want to go anywhere within walking distance because the roads are so narrow which with a 2 year old and a push chair make it impossible to walk down but based on how remote it is thats impossible to get round and something we got used to. overall a beautiful place and we had a lovely week here.

Thank you for your very fair comments. We are pleased that you appreciated the cottage and had a good week here. We agree about the sofas, we plan to renew them in October when we will have more time to plan delivery dates. Property Owner

Sofas a little tired and low as my family are tall 6ft6 inc and 6ft 4inc. Location was fantastic and the setting. Ps bags are too small to put all the bedding in and towels as requested, tried my best .

Thank you for the feedback, which I have passed on to the cleaning and management team. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay. We agree about the sofas, which we tried to renew last year but it was impossible to get the deliveries as for so many other things. Well equipped kitchen with plenty of fridge and freezer space, good showers, very comfortable beds, good provision of children's equipment such as stair gates and cot, and good selection of dvds and books if it's raining. Lots of great (hilly) walking nearby, several beaches within walking or driving distance, plenty of options for pubs, groceries and takeaways in the nearby villages, and easy access to Plymouth and Dartmoor Zoo. Set in well maintained grounds which provide a picnic area as well as space to exercise both your dog and your children. The tennis court is well maintained and such a bonus! We didn't use the games room but equipment was provided for it in the cottage. We all really enjoyed our stay and would stay again if the opportunity came up.

  • "The house was lovely, very clean and well appointed."

Beds were comfortable and plenty of room for the 8 of us, including plenty of storage space which can often be lacking in holiday homes. We were especially pleased with the kitchen which had everything you would need and more. The second fridge was particularly helpful as we were a large group. We were able to park right outside most of the time which was really helpful. I have only give 3 out of 4 for comfort because the house was very hot! We turned the storage heaters down to the lowest settings and it was still boiling. We couldn't work out how to turn off the heated towel rails which seemed to be on 24 hours a day. Good to know that the house would be warm in the winter, but it was a bit much for us in spring and must be costing you a fortune! Also there were two stair gates provided but neither fitted on the stairs, so were pretty useless. Luckily our children were old enough to be sensible but could be a big problem for crawling babies. We loved the location close to Noss Mayo. It was lovely and quiet but not far to drive to bigger towns and Plymouth. We visited some lovely beaches and appreciated the folder with guidance on what to expect locally. Our favourite beach was Wembury for rock pools and we also had a great ice cream at Surfing Cow which is very local. We didn't get much use from the facilities on site as we were out and about a lot, but we briefly visited the tennis court and games room which were in great shape and nice to have the option.

Thank you for your feedback. We were very pleased to see that you liked the cottage, and had a pleasant stay in spite of the excess heat. If you had called the management team at the number shown in the folder, they would have sorted out the difficulties you encountered. The stairgates were fine when we tried them in December, but they are a bit of a puzzle to install, especially if someone has removed the big screw adjustment from one of them which has happened before. As for the heating, unfortunately we cannot have a gas boiler. Storage heaters are not very reactive, which is why there are instructions in the red folder. I am now sending these instructions out with the welcome email. However, they do all have an on/off switch on the wall beside them. The towel rails are operated by a ceiling string pull, once again because of safety regulations. We shall try the ice-creams from the Surfing Cow during our next visit! Property Owner

There were initially four of us plus hound, but we rose to eight for the second weekend. The property is very well equipped indeed, and the master bedroom and dining/lounge especially good. Just watch out for the beams in the master bedroom if you are tall! The agents and owners are very responsive. A bulb was replaced quickly and attention to some minor heating issues. The tennis court is great, as it the table tennis room. The location is superb. A short walk to the South West Coast Path (stunning views along the circular route from Stoke Bay to Noss Mayo) and the beautiful villages of Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers. Plenty of great cycling too (no shortage of hills to keep you fit). Sadly not enough time to go horse riding. We need to return. There is so much to explore and enjoy!

Beds were really comfy and it was nice to have the kitchen/dining area on a different level. We went for a hike on the Sat to Stoke Beach, which was stunning as was the weather that day and we out for hours! Thank you very much for your feedback. We’re delighted that you enjoyed your holiday at St Aubyn Cottage. We agree that night storage heaters are not easy to use, so we have added operating instructions to the Welcome folder. The property

St Aubyn Cottage is one of a number of cottages at Rowden Court, a selected development converted from Grade II listed farm buildings near the coastal footpath and rugged cliff walks.

This comfortable 'upside down' cottage is arranged over three floors, sitting mid-row and looking over the shared inner courtyard.

Inside, the welcoming, cosy interior has been well-furnished with pretty fabrics, painted exposed beams and interesting local artwork.

Stepping into the property from the courtyard, you enter a hallway, where you can kick off your boots, and are greeted with three ground floor bedrooms: a double and two twin, with a family bathroom with shower over the bath.

Stairs lead up to the open-plan living room and dining area with seating for up to eight people.

Settle down on the comfy sofas and enjoy the benefits of the electric fireplace keeping you warm during those chilly evenings while you watch TV, play games or read a book from the bookshelf.

The kitchen has an impressive, well-equipped set of white fitted units and spacious wooden worktops, ideal for preparing a home cooked meal for the friends or family.

Further stairs lead up to the second floor and the enormous master bedroom with a king-size bed, TV/DVD player, with an en-suite bathroom, bath and separate shower, both with Velux windows, some sloping ceilings and exposed beams.

With a communal games room and laundry facilities, including table tennis, dart board, washing machines and tumble driers, there is nothing this property doesn't have to offer.

It shares a 1½ acre well-maintained garden to the south, a short distance from the cottage, where you can use the tennis court, barbecue and picnic tables, a lovely place to dine together in a natural setting.

The beautiful South West Coast Path is less than half a mile away, Dramatic Stoke Beach with its cliffs is just down the hill, and unspoilt Mothecombe Beach on the Erme estuary is 4 miles along the coast road with a large car park.

These beaches are paradise for your dog, where they can swim, run and play with other dogs without being on the lead.

Birdwatchers and people interested in wildlife will find plenty to interest them in the immediate vicinity, including cirl buntings, peregrine falcons and dolphins!

Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo are adjoining small villages beside the River Yealm estuary, sheltered by oak-wooded hillsides, and are popular for sailing, walking or just sitting and soaking in the magnificent scenery.

The roads immediately around the villages are mostly country lanes, so sometimes narrow with passing places to allow two vehicles to pass.

You will find local shops and pubs with great food also nearby.

There is a low tide footpath across the creek and local tennis courts and riding stables.

A good quality, stylish and cosy cottage, well-suited for a group of friends or one or two families to share.

Note: This property can be booked with Ref. 1128788, together sleeping 14 guests.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.
