  • "It would have been nice to put the umbrella up over the loungers but sadly it was broken."

The umbrella over on the dining table wasn’t the right shape either !! Other than that we had a wonderful house party for my 60th (4th party at the wood over the last 20yrs) Loved the refurbishment that’s been done over the last few years

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we're really pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay at The Wood! Apologies for the broken umbrella, this has now been replaced. Please do contact Pebbles if you have any issues during a future stay at The Wood and they will be happy to help. We look forward to welcoming you again. Property Owner

  • "The Wood is a very special place, from the moment we entered we felt at home."

Our stay was to celebrate my 80th birthday and Diamond anniversary and we couldn’t have asked for a better setting. I note that in previous reviews someone had suggested a second dishwasher was needed, now there are two!. Kitchen incredibly well equipped. We so enjoyed the welcome pack of freshly baked scones with local jam .and cream which was a delightful touch. The one suggestion we might make is to have a lock on the shower room next to the ground floor bedroom! Gillian

Great for a large family holiday. Parking is a little tight but doable.

  • "The Wood is a perfect holiday house for a large group, beautifully situated above South Sands."

The house has a warm, homely feel, with plenty of light and spectacular views. It is decorated in a tasteful style. There are lots of things to do - footpaths, beach, Salcombe, paddleboarding, restaurants - so splinter groups can go off and occupy themselves. We really appreciated the white John Lewis linen and towels - this makes a difference. In terms of constructive feedback, the house needs two dishwashers, as there are so many guests. Also, on arrival, we would expect liquid soap to be in each bathroom - this disappointingly, wasn't provided. Otherwise, it was a lovely stay.

  • "A wonderful property in a lovely location, overlooking the sea."

The outside decking is perfect to catch the early morning sunshine and to have large group meals outside - even in January!! The house was exceptionally clean and tidy, with plenty of cooking utensils, wood for the stoves and games. I would definitely chose to go back.

  • "We had a wonderful welcome on arrival from Rachel of Pebbles."

The family of thirteen thoroughly enjoyed the house with its great views and easy access to beach and ferry to Salcombe. We all enjoyed the music system and the games cupboard was well used by the younger members of the family. We all walked to the Winking Prawn for a most enjoyable celebratory birthday meal. We all managed to walk a few times into SALCOMBE even the two older ones. We were able to eat breakfast and dinner outside due to the great weather. There was everything in the house that we could have wanted to make our stay comfortable, if I were to make a criticism a few more coat hangers would have been useful. All in all a great time was had in The Wood.

The property

High on a hill above South Sands beach in Salcombe is this big impressive detached house.

Standing in its own garden and in prime position in one of the UK's most stunning towns, this is exceptional accommodation for families or groups of friends.

From the parking area off a private lane, head down the steps into the smart hall, off which you will find a splendid big kitchen, extremely well equipped and with a big dining area which opens to a large enclosed deck where you can sit with evening drinks and take in the amazing views of the estuary.

Double doors open to the sitting room, also with those views and an open fire to gather round and watch TV or listen to the Sonos music system.

On this level you have a handy twin bedroom (zip-link), or take the stairs up to five further bedrooms, all with fantastic views over the sea.

The master double is especially beautiful.

On the top floor, the children will love sharing the big en suite room with lots of beds, where they can sleep and play table top football as well.

Outside the garden is as spectacular as the interior, with 1½ steep acres of space where you can wander, sit, sunbathe, play table tennis or head down the steps through the garden to the lovely beach below.

You may not want to venture further than this lovely house and garden and the beach below, but if the mood takes you, wander into fascinating Salcombe town with its boutique shops, great restaurants and pubs.

Maybe hire a boat to explore the waterways, play tennis or go swimming in the seasonal outdoor pool.

The pedestrian ferry is fun to catch to East Portlemouth with more great beaches.

For a little exercise, it's no hardship to take to the South West Coast Path with wonderful coastal views and the occasional bench to take a breather, or perhaps head to nearby National Trust gardens for some green-fingered inspiration.

The Wood is a unique and very special haven for enjoying one of the loveliest spots you could imagine.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £500.
