  • "Holcombe House was where our 3-generation family spent lots of happy, quality time together this summer."

We were very comfortable and enjoyed its spaciousness and the lovely atmosphere within the main house and the annexe. With a large living room and two smaller sitting rooms, we were happily spoilt for choice! The beaches and tourist attractions nearby were amazing to visit. Communication with Penny, the owner, was always smooth, which made us feel relaxed. The most wonderful thing which we will always remember and be thankful for, is Penny’s kindness and the great efforts she made to help us even after we had checked out, when we realised that a valuable item had been inadvertently left behind. She very kindly sent it back safely to us, and was very understanding. With such happy memories, we truly wish to return!

Thank you for your lovely review, we are delighted that you had such a good holiday in Holcombe House with your extended family and have many happy memories to take back with you. It’s always a particular pleasure to hear of guests exploring the area, there is so much to see and enjoy and we hope to welcome you and your family again one day to explore further and make more memories. • "A lovely house with a lovely view."

Plenty of space for everyone to spread out and a nice location to explore Torquay and the surrounding area. A couple of tiny points that would make it even better; A tumble dryer and/or some pegs - and maybe a bigger washing line. (If we had been at capacity -12/14 people and staying longer than a week, keeping up with laundry would be a nightmare with only a tiny rotary line) Some coat hooks in the Annexe would be a great idea. The drive entry is tight, but do-able if you go slowly. The main garden isn't dog safe in that there is no gate but the annexe garden is alright as long as your dog isnt a jumper. The annexe didnt have any clean cutlery, crockery, glasses or mugs so we moved what we needed from the main house. (The items in the cupboards that were there, were used so we put through the dishwasher.)

Thank you for your feedback. We have noted your comments re laundry and will explore some options to increase drying space as you suggest and provide additional pegs. We hope to see you again one day, it’s always nice to see guests return. Property Owner

Beautiful, spacious property that ticked all the boxes. Perfect for our family. Would definitely visit again with family in the future. My only negative feedback would be the entrance into the driveway. It was a tad tight for my Range Rover and the charging point for the car was a tight stretch for the charging lead. Would have been better if it was mounted outside the conservatory. Other than that I rate this property 10 out of 10

Thank you for your lovely review, we are delighted that the house ticked all the boxes for you! We do hope that you visit again one day, it’s always a pleasure to welcome returning guests. Property Owner

  • "A beautiful grand house."

A well equipped kitchen, with a comfy lounge for large groups. The beds are very comfortable, possibly the best we've had in a holiday cottage. The location also good, although the steep roads could make access a challenge for some. The garden is a little shabby, despite the gardener being in attendance for most of Saturday evening (a little off putting)...Its also not dog proof. The driveway is challenging for all but the smallest of cars. Further exacerbated by the drive entrance being offset at an angle.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re delighted that you found the kitchen well equipped and the drawing room and beds so comfortable. Property Owner

  • "Beutiful property in an extremely nice part of Torquay."

Holcombe house is very well equipped. It provides very comfortable accommodation that will support 12 people easily. There are also an additional two pull out beds in the rooms our grand children stayed in so you could actually accommodate another two. With three very comfortable lounges a separate dining room and two kitchens, there was plenty of space for our three generations of family to spread themselves around. The house has been very tastefully restored while still maintaining its victorian period charm. It is not too hard to imagine yourself living in the house during that period when standing in the upper bay windows that have good views of Torquay Harbour and beyond. Torquay town center being a 10 minute walk away and Meadfoot beach also around 10 minutes walk. It might take you a little longer to walk back depending on your fitness levels. Anstys Cove being a piqturesque thirty minutes walk away. My two older boys and there partners went for a run each morning and fully enjoyed the hill challenge:)

Thank you for your lovely review, we are delighted that you liked the house and the location so much and managed to explore the area on foot, there are some lovely walks, places of interest and views close by. Our party of 12, plus baby and plus one dog were easily accommodated. The four children were thrilled to have their own lounge. The large dining room meant we could all eat together. Short walk downhill to Torquay or along coast road to Babbacombe. The 64 bus stop is by the house and was useful for our two elders to get back from Torquay without the hill climb. Great family break at Holcombe House.

Thank you for your lovely review, we are so pleased that you enjoyed your holiday and enjoyed having plenty of room for everyone. The house is huge and immaculately clean and fresh. We had absolutely everything we needed in the kitchens to prepare meals for our big family. We were away for my mums 70th birthday, so this was a special family gathering and the house suited us perfectly. The beds are big (super king I think?) and really comfortable. Some of the bedrooms are huge which is ideal if like us you want to set up little beds on the floor for young children to sleep in with you. You’re also spoilt for choice with 3 separate lounge rooms, ideal if you have older kids/teenagers that want to have their own space in the evening. The location of the house is also ideal, just a short walk to Torquay seafront. I also have to mention that the owner was so helpful in contacting us directly with directions to the property before our stay and was so quick to respond when I emailed her a question. On top of this, on our return we realised we had left something at the house and she arranged to have it posted back to us immediately. We will definitely be returning, thank you for a wonderful stay!

  • "What can you say about Holcombe House."

....it looked magnificent in the pictures but was even better in reality. It is a truly amazing property - my daughter described it as staying in 'National Trust' property. It is a large house with many rooms, but its is also very warm and homely - we felt immediately comfortable there. The kitchen is where we ate most of our meals and, as is often the case, was the gathering spot. We spent a number of shared evenings in the main living room, which easily accommodating the seven of us (and dog). The annex kitchen was used by the kids for their studies, so near enough but far enough. The two additional TV rooms were ideal to give everyone enough space so we weren't in each others pockets the whole time. The kids also enjoyed some very competitive games of table football in the conservatory. The bedrooms we used were all huge, although the two in the annex were smaller, they weren't small. We also had bathrooms for each pair, so again allowing for plenty of comfort and no waiting. The grounds whilst not massive were plenty for the dog and I even managed an afternoon in the sun to read my book - not to be sniffed at in mid-October. A word of advice - the gateway is a little tight for those with larger cars so best approached from up the hill as on a slight angle, but this isn't an issue and there was plenty of parking space (the Google maps pictures are not up-to-date). I could not recommend this property enough - we were a party of seven + dog and it was perfect for us but could easily accommodate bigger groups. On the (very sad) day of leaving my wife described it as a privilege to stay in such a magnificent property....that about sums it up.

There was plenty of room for us to spread out in the large reception rooms. Our first evening we all enjoyed a meal in the beautiful large and airy dining room with a lovely view of the setting sun. The bedrooms were large and airy as well, with comfortable beds. I holidayed in Torquay as a child and am glad I came back and introduced my family to the English Riviera, we were lucky to be blessed with a full week of sunshine everyday. Everyone loved Torquay, we experienced great food at all facilities we visited with friendly service staff. An excellent holiday we will definitely be back to visit again. There were a couple of negative things I would like to mention which did not spoil a great week but I feel need mentioning. The recycling bins were already full up when we arrived on the Friday, we put them out as instructed on the Wednesday. We had to use black bags for our waste. The bin men emptied the black boxes already filled from the previous occupants and then emptied our black sacks into the boxes!! We struggled to keep on top of recycling as there are not enough boxes for a large party of people. Also, the garden was very overgrown when we arrived which did add a slight disappointment to the overall impression of such a grand house. However, this was sorted within a few days, which made a big difference.

Thank you for your review of Holcombe House, we are delighted that you had such a good time and enjoyed your stay so much. We have taken on board your comments about the rubbish, we think the problem was a previous guest omitting to put out the refuse and recycling for disposal on the correct day resulting in an extra week’s refuse to be disposed of. We have now provided double the number of bins and recycling boxes so that should this occur in the future it will not prove such a problem. Thank you for letting us know about it. We hope you choose to revisit Holcombe House one day, it’s always a pleasure to welcome return guests. Richard and Penny. Property Owner
