  • "We have just arrived home from our stay at Monica and Ians beautiful farmhouse which was very large with ample room for our 6 guests and hosted a lovely view overlooking a pig and her piglets!"

We were able to purchase lovely free range eggs from Monica on sight which were enjoyed by all of us. The beds were very comfortable and the shower facilities were lovely. The only reason this isn't a 5 star review is lack of clarity when bringing our 4 dogs to the property. In accordance with Sykes cottages: dogs are not allowed on the furniture which is absolutely fine and fully understandable. The issue we had was with the dogs not being allowed upstairs. As all of the bedrooms are located upstairs it would mean that all 4 of our dogs had to be downstairs, unsupervised in a strange new place that they weren't familiar with. The upstairs was fully wooden floor wirh no carpets or rugs so it was baffling as to why they weren't allowed upstairs. One of us would have to sleep downstairs with the dogs every night so they were not alone. In complete honesty, if this has been known to us prior to booking, we may have perhaps explored other properties. One of our dogs was a 5 month old puppy that probably would have taken to howling if left alone in a new property. A second issue we experienced was that, although the garden was secure, an able dog could have easily jumped over the fence and gone on a wander! In this case it may be advisable to let customers know to bring a long line to have their dogs on in the garden.

Charlotte thank you for the lovely comments about the farmhouse and facilities. Regarding the garden, we have four Labrador retrievers, who are frequently in the garden (when there are no guests staying), we have one head strong male and he has never escaped. We have fenced in the entire garden, ensuring the stunning views are not lost. We always make sure we are visible (without being intrusive), if you had spoken to us about the puppy and the upstairs we would have worked with you, we do contact you via email, and leave a welcome booklet were we make it clear we are always available, sadly we were unaware you had an issue so we were unable to solve it during your stay. The garden was great and safe for both the children and the dogs . The grand children did not want to leave and even the dog is sulking now we are home think she wanted to stay with Monica !!! We have just returned from Lower West Curry Farmhouse, and liked it so much we booked a return visit on the way home! The owners Ian and Monica are very friendly and welcoming, not just to us humans but to our 4 dogs too. It is so lovely to find a place that doesn’t just allow dogs, but really welcomes them. We appreciated the goodies left in the farmhouse, everything needed to make a cream tea, including instruction on how to make it the Cornish way, a lovely home baked loaf of bread, butter, tea coffee sugar and a very nice bottle of wine, thank you very much. The farmhouse is warm and cosy but deceptively spacious with everything you need for a home from home holiday. The furniture and furnishings are all very comfortable and of good quality and the beds are probably the most comfortable we have ever had away from home. The hot water was plentiful, a great plus. The views from this beautiful farmhouse are stunning, and there are many species of birds visiting the feeder in the garden. It was lovely to have a safe secure garden for our dogs, and to still be able to enjoy the view. All in all, there is nothing not to like about Lower West Curry Farmhouse. We and our dogs are looking forward to returning in a few weeks time. We are so pleased that we found this tranquil gem deep in the Cornish countryside.

Lovely hosts and some very welcome treats. The beds were really comfy and the linen and towels good quality. The garden was idea for the dogs to play in and despite the poor weather, the veranda provided cover. The kitchen was well stocked and enabled us to make some meals in and the dining room was lovely for family meals. Like you’d expect with an old house the floorboards creaked and my husband managed to bang his head several times where as I learned to duck! One of the dogs and the baby were unsettled the first night and we were conscious of the neighbours in the cottage attached but when we apologised they reassured us they didn’t hear a thing! Beautifully remote but an easy drive for days out, Ian and Monica checked in on us regularly when passing and keen to ensure we were warm enough and everything was ok. They work incredibly hard and clearly had perfected the little touches. If you’re travelling with a baby you will need to take a travel cot and highchair but that’s not a big ask. Nothing was too much trouble and they always went above and beyond. Staying on the farm was an experience my daughters, us and our doggos will never forget and seeing how much Monica and Ian care so deeply about their animals was so heart warming. Ian gave us an amazing tour of the farm, meeting cows, ducks, geese, pigs (and piglets), sheep (and lambs), kittens, and birds. My daughters enjoyed every moment and learnt so much. And thank you to the lovely Monica for giving our old lab the best holiday ever. Everything you could need is provided in the farm house, literally everything has been so carefully thought about and the views are outstanding. The farmhouse is well positioned for exploring, just a few things we explored during our week was horse riding on dartmoor (and then walked in dartmoor on one of the very beautiful tracks, the lost gardens, summerleaze beach, Bude Town Centre and then a lovely hike with incredible views over the coves near Boscastle. If you are after a relaxed, calm, active and beautiful holiday this is the full package offeri g this and more. P.s. the kitchen is beautiful and the lovely country cutlery sets - I have even upgraded our sets at home to be more 'country'

Clean and tidy. Beds comfortable (one of the most important factors to us!). Very nice welcome gifts left by the owners! The only negative was, as this is a dog friendly cottage, the lack of walks for the dogs. There was only the option of walking down the lane to the main road and back - about half a mile in total. Other than that the dogs had to be transported by car to another location.

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate the only walking area is a short lane. As we are livestock farmers it is not safe for you or our animals to have other people and other dogs walking freely in the fields. We do have a couple of local walks nearby which as you say require a short drive, not to mention miles of coastal footpaths, reservoirs, moors to explore. Situation is good ideal location to explore Devon and Cornwall, the coast is stunning. There is a car charging point for your use for a nominal, which was great and very handy. Love the TV had built in Netflix which I didn't discover until the second night! Fantastic break, really hope to come back for longer and have a guided tour round the farm! A lovely touch was the welcome items such as milk, butter, bread , tea and coffee as well as a bottle of wine and cream tea with home made scones for all the guests! The bedding was crisp and clean and the towels large and fluffy. A couple of negatives, the knives for cooking were blunt and the pans are a nightmare to clean after cooking as they are not non stick. We also had a couple of chilly nights and when we asked for logs we were charged £5 for approx 5 Small logs! Slightly steep when we could have switched on the heating at a greater expense! Also the men in my household are 6ft and over and there are a lot of low beams and low door frames so we have left with a few bumped heads! The location was great for visiting our favourite bay in Trebarwith and local sites such as port Isaac and Bude on one side of the peninsula and Fowey, Polperro on the other. It is a working farm so we were woken by ducks and geese every morning and there are four lovely fat pigs grunting at the bottom of the garden . The vista from the garden is incredible! The boiler kept blowing out so there were a few mid shower cold bursts that needed the boiler resetting before hot water returned! On those occasions there were probably a few loud screams from the girls!

Perfect location with a lovely garden with fabulous views. The owners are very friendly and the welcoming gifts were a very pleasant surprise. The only downside to this holiday home, in my opinion is that it was not very baby/toddler friendly, in the lack of provision of equipment ie, baby gates, cots. We did take our own but the stairs were unsuitable to house the gate.
