  • "The cottage was one of the nicest we have stayed at."

The owners were very helpful but not intrusive I addition the garden was nice and useful to use our for safely letting our dogs out. only slight drawback was the house was very near the road and could be quite busy and noisy at times.

  • "Just returned from a lovely stay at Lower Butchers Cottage."

The property is excellent … spotlessly clean, comfortable and very well equipped. There is secure off road parking and a lovely little garden area (shared by the property above) which was brilliant for our dog. The owner is lovely & friendly and sorted the only minor issue we had (with a temperamental hairdryer) by replacing it the same day. We had been a little concerned that the property was on the roadside, however, it was very quiet at night and we were never disturbed by traffic noise. There is a small general store directly opposite which was very well stocked and was very handy to pop across for milk, water, etc. The property is very well located for visiting around Dorset and only about a 10 minute drive into Weymouth. Would also recommend the Upwey Wishing Well Tea Rooms & Gardens, about 5 minutes drive away. We would highly recommend the property and would definitely stay there again if visiting the area.

  • "A very clean and well appointed accommodation."

Convenient for Weymouth and Dorchester by car and bus The property is situated on a main road so there is some noise from passing traffic Suggested additions are multiple plug extensions for the bedroom and front room to accommodate phone charging, toothbrush charging etc. The shaver socket in the bathroom is too high for toothbrush charging leads. A small shelf below would help!!!

Ideally located between Weymouth and Dorchester with a regular bus route running right past the cottage. Many other areas of interest within easy reach. There is a convenience store directly opposite which stocks almost everything. We ate at one of the local pubs which didn't disappoint. Owners are available, without being intrusive. All in all, an ideal holiday accommodatioin.

  • "The flat is well maintained and quite modern."

It is situated on a busy road, the off road parking is tricky, we found it best to reverse into the drive. The area is not very pretty and quite built up, however, there is a convenience shop directly opposite and a pub ten minutes walk away, but they only serve food Thursday, Friday and Saturday and it is a not a particularly great place.

  • "This was our first visit to lower butcher's cottage, we had been to upper butchers cottage the previous year."

Alistair and Janet run two lovely properties, and think of nearly all your needs, they are also extremely friendly and helpful. The only thing we needed that wasn't available was a baking sheet for use in the oven, we ended up using the shelf tray. Otherwise extremely well stocked, incl dog towels, washing up liquid, sponge, cloth and tea towels. Very impressive!

It is perfect for a couple staying and had everything needed for a short stay. The secure garden was a bonus for our 2 dogs and there was even beach towels for us and for the dogs as well. Alistair and Janet were friendly and helpful and provided information on the local area. The cottage is well situated just a short drive into Weymouth but also has several routes to walk the 3 miles. There is a small shop across the road for essentials and supermarkets within easy reach for a larger shop. Upwey Wishing Well Gardens and Cafe just a short walk away is a must if you enjoy Coffee and Excellent Cakes.

The cottage was clean and welcoming. The owners were very helpful when we first arrived providing us with several ideas of places to eat or visit, a few of which we tried and found to be good. The cottage was ideally situated for us to explore both the east and west coast of Weymouth, which we did! Thank you for a great place to stay, all I can say is keep it up!

  • "We had a really good week in lower butchers cottage with our two dogs, the cottage was well decorated and furnished comfortably."

The cottage was very clean the kitchen had everything needed for a short stay. Going out the front door and through the garden gate to the right there is a safe enclosed area for the dogs with a nice furnished deck good for coffees in the sun. We would happily stay here again although I would perhaps book upper butchers cottage as the entrance to this cottage is behind the garden gate, giving safer access to the garden for the dogs. I also believe that there is a bath which is my preference. With a little bit of exploring we found fields nearby for dog walks and plenty of good places to eat out, a shop just across the road is very handy and supermarkets are just a very short car trip away.

Met the owner Alistair who was very friendly and helpful. Had the information about Upwey not been in the Welcome book, we would have missed out on seeing a delightful village. Very thoughtful. Great shop opposite for missed items. Just a couple of kitchen items which would have been useful: oven glove and baking tray. We had a wonderful break.

It’s set just outside of the town & sea front of Weymouth so you’re very close with a short drive of a few minutes, the area is very clean and the locals are friendly, there is a shop directly across the main road of the property and the main supermarkets are also a short drive, the property is ideally located for everything you may need. You’re in fairly close proximity of other towns and beaches and we explored them all and went on fossils hunts at Charmouth and Chesil beach where we met friendly locals who explained what to look out for and gave safety advice, we had a great time. The owners of the property are lovely, very welcoming and friendly, and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed, which we did, but nothing would have been too much trouble they really just wanted us to enjoy our stay, I would definitely recommend this property to friends and family, it’s a lovely place.

About the location

UPWEY

Dorchester 4.5 miles; Weymouth 4 miles.

The picturesque village of Upwey lies just four miles north of Weymouth, nestling beneath the Dorset Ridgeway, and takes its name from the shallow chalk stream, the River Wey, which bubbles up here from an underground spring. Upwey is well-known for its Wishing Well, where George III once sought the benefits of the natural spring water. It is now a delightful tea room, serving lunches and traditional cream teas. There are a number of footpaths leading directly from the village to miles of unspoilt countryside, and close by is the market town of Dorchester, Thomas Hardy’s ’Casterbridge’. An easy drive or bus ride takes you to the popular seaside resort of Weymouth offering visitors glorious golden sandy beaches, excellent watersports facilities and a bustling harbour. An attractive village location and an ideal place to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Please note: The garden is shared with the above property.
