  • "We split a one week booking between my son and his girlfriend for a few days, and then myself and my husband."

We all found this little property comfortable and clean. It’s very well equipped for a small place and the owners are lovely. The car space is much appreciated and we had a Range Rover which was tight but still fitted! Conveniently positioned between Dorchester and Weymouth, a good resting place after a day sight seeing.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay :) Property Owner

  • "What a beautiful, cosy and relaxing little space."

I stayed here for 5 days while working away and found it absolutely charming. The location, the decor and the little touches made it a perfect place to stay. As a single traveler the location also made me feel very safe. The little outdoor area quickly became my favourite spot. I will definitely be booking to stay again.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share such kind words and lovely feedback. We hope to welcome you back to The Kiln House again soon :) Property Owner

  • "I higy recommend staying at kiln house cottage when visiting Weymouth."

It is a very clean and modern property, very quiet with your own little patio out back with beautiful sunset views. See the birds and squirrels on the feeders just outside the side and back windows/patio doors. Everything you could wish for and a bonus of beautiful Dorset on your doorstep. And not to forget the friendly hosts Guy & Katherine that make you feel very welcome and respect your privacy as you would respect theirs as the cottage is in the back garden.

Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay :) Property Owner

  • "The property is very bijou, and the owners have clearly taken a lot of care in selecting the prints, etc that adorn the walls."

The fresh flowers and biscuits were very welcome. The property is fairly well appointed, in the main, and was clean enough. However, there are a number of issues that I had not anticipated. 1. It is very difficult to park near the property. We had to park in a side street off the main road. 2. It is quite a hike to Weymouth - luckily there is a good bus service 3. The bed is just a futon, with a thin mattress. I did not sleep at all well as it was so uncomfortable. 4. The seating arrangements are very uncomfortable. It is not possible to sit for long at the table. Some proper chairs would be good. 5. The television is impossible to watch, as the reception is so poor. 6. It is quite difficult to cook anything substantial with just one saucepan! Furthermore, the lights draped around the mirror didn’t work as they need new batteries, and the kettle needs de-scaling. I really wish I could say something positive but The Kiln House is just not a comfortable place to spend a holiday, and I was very disappointed.

Thank you for your feedback. We feel the issues you have raised are unfair. For example, (1) you say it was difficult to park near the property and yet off- road parking on our private drive is available to all guests something I confirmed to you verbally upon your arrival. This allotted parking space remained empty throughout your visit. (2) The seafront is a short bus ride away as described in the property details and as you say there is a good bus service from outside the property. (3) We have only ever received positive feedback about the bed but we are sorry if it was not to your liking. (4) The dining area and seating remain exactly as seen in the property photographs. (5) No guests have ever mentioned poor TV reception. We were not aware that you had problems and wish you had let us know so that we could have been given the opportunity to solve them for you during your visit. (6) There are at least three saucepans in the Kiln House. We were unfortunately not aware that the batteries in the fairy lights ran out but they were checked before your arrival. We work hard to ensure that our guests have an enjoyable stay in the Kiln House and are very sad to hear that you were so disappointed. Property Owner

  • "A lovely warm and welcoming holiday home with everything we needed for a cosy stay."

We loved the little garden outside the back doors and the view across to the hills. Unfortunately we had to cut our holiday short but we will be returning soon as you can't have too much of a good thing.

Thank you so much for your kind feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back :) Property Owner

  • "This is a beautifully decorated little gem of a house."

It was spotless too which was much appreciated. It would best suit guests who are visiting by public transport. It is on a main bus route, and the local train station ( Upwey) is nearby. Although the listing states “ roadside parking” , the main road is predominately double yellow lines and the suggested “surrounding streets” are packed with cars. Finding somewhere to park each day was stressful and, for this reason only, we would not return.

Thank you for your feedback which is much appreciated. Parking does vary and although most guests have been able to park opposite the house or in the street around the corner, there are times when this has been tricky. We are always happy to help out and have made our drive available if guests have struggled before and have made us aware. If you do decide to return, the drive is yours! Property Owner

  • "Very good stay."

We had everything we wanted re the facilities. Maybe a brush and dustpan would be handy. Car parking was a problem, but this was made clear on the adverts for the property. Plenty of buses and close shops. Altogther a really pleasant stay. thank you

Thank you for your feedback which is really useful for us as we are new to holiday letting. Dustpan and brush now added and further parking arrangements now in place when needed during busier times of the year. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at The Kiln House. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay at Kiln House."

A prefect space for a couple, we found all we needed at the property (ice cube tray etc) but we could not find any paper to leave the owners a thank you note. We would definitely stay again as we found the peace and calm that we had taken a break for. The local shop could not have been more convenient and both pubs are very friendly. We loved Upwey as a base for exploring this area of Dorset.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay :) Property Owner

  • "Good kitchen, well equipped."

Dining table benches with cushions were too high so unable to get knees under table. Kitchen Matt moves too easily and hot water very slow. Bathroom good and washing machine v handy. Would be nice for a shelf to put toiletries on. Overall very nice and would recommend to others. Easy drive or train into Weymouth

Thank you so much for the feedback as you were our very first guests. We've ensured that the kitchen mat no longer slips and have installed a toiletries shelf in the bathroom. We've added another armchair for comfort and the bench cushions can be removed for eating at the dining table, but are there for additional comfort when relaxing. Thank you again for your feedback and we're so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at The Kiln House. Property Owner

The property

Tucked away down a quaint passageway on the edge of the seaside town of Weymouth is this heart-warming, self-contained annexe, The Kiln House.

Formerly a working pottery, this romantic hideaway for two is perfectly placed for accessing the delights of Weymouth or Dorchester whilst enjoying all the benefits of a quiet rural location.

After a day spent walking the surrounding lanes and meadows, kick off your boots and head to the open-plan living space, where you can relax in an armchair and ponder the holiday thus far distracted a little no doubt by a selection of beautiful ceramics made on site or perhaps the idyllic view through french windows that open onto a secluded patio.

Clear the dining table and plan an agenda for the rest of the holiday, or step over to the kitchen and rustle up a hearty feast.

The bedroom features a double bed and comes with ample storage space for your personal items.

Step out to the patio and enjoy a drink from the bistro table and chairs beneath a spreading beech, undisturbed but for an occasional squirrel or the sound of a woodpecker at work in the nearby walnut tree.

Just up the road lies a friendly convenience store where you can pick up any essentials, or head to one of the local pubs, The Royal Standard or The Old Ship for delicious comfort food and ale.

Weymouth town itself comes lined with a wealth of fine spots to eat, drink, and shop the days away.

The sea front is just a short bus ride away, as is the county town of Dorchester, both destinations being accessible from nearby bus stops or Upwey train station.

If you’ve arrived at the Kiln House via bus or train and want to access some of the area’s more remote locations, fear not since Dorset Vehicle Rentals are also a short walk away where you can hire a car for a day or two.

If you feel like taking things a little more slowly you can walk to the seafront via local footpaths that follow the course of the River Wey and the peaceful reed beds of Radipole Lake (keeping a sharp eye open for herons, egrets and cormorants along the way) and then past the Swannery and memorial gardens before reaching the award-winning Weymouth Beach where you can lounge on the golden sands or in a traditional seaside deck chair.

Enjoy a romantic retreat at The Kiln House.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.
