  • "The accuracy of the description was good."

This is particularly important given the current temporary access route to the cottage. From a few reviews it appears that some guests have not paid due attention to the warnings. We had no problems. Cottage is well and stylishly fitted, very comfortable and clean apart from the oven.

Parking obvious ,route to the cottage clear and precise, very well set out and organised.inside the cottage was like new.tastefully set out.pictures on the walls maybe indicated the owners were fellow travellers explorers, .There was a picture of the Great Ocean Road( The twelve Apostles) in Australia.A lovely touch ,a picture with Wanderlust, which is my motto ,saying, well that's me,having spent the last 36 years on various expeditions around the world. Also Wanderlust is on the back of my campervan.i had no idea where , langton Matravers was,in relation to anywhere in Dorset, but fate landed me in exactly the perfect location and perfect cottage and basecamp to explore.Every where I wanted to go was close by. Absolutely perfect sojourn.

  • "Sadly we were very disappointed."

Whilst the listing mentioned building work nowhere did it say how bad and dirty it made the cottage. The entrance is disgraceful and unsafe. The parking is ridiculous and so muddy. The reduction in price was an insult. The garden furniture is filthy as are the inside windows. I took pictures of how bad it was but nowhere to post them. Certainly nowhere near a dream cottage.

I'm so sorry you didn't enjoy the cottage. The temporary access, made necessary by the building works that are out of our control, is safe, warm and dry. The lane I am afraid is a bit muddy, as are most country lanes at this time of the year, but door mats are provided at the cottage both inside and out. Thank you for letting us know about the windows these have now been cleaned. Please do always let owners know during your stay if you feel the cleanliness isn't up to scratch, we would always prefer to fix it while you are there, so you enjoy your stay, rather than reading about it afterwards. The lane was extremely pot holed. A dishwasher would be an asset. Mugs were difficult to Clean, some had stains difficult to remove. The tiny freezer compartment was unusable.

Thanks you for your feedback, we will have a look into the mugs and freezer, at this stage the cottage kitchen isn't big enough for a dishwasher but it is something we are looking at for next year. We hope you enjoyed your stay in beautiful Dorset. Property Owner

We were welcomed with a basket of scones and jam (cream in fridge) and dog treats. Cleaning stuff was there, soap and toilet rolls. All bedding and towels. We covered the sofa with blankets and towels and used our own duvet as were worried about dogs jumping on them. The lady we spoke to said it didn’t matter they were used to dogs but thanked us for caring. We loved that there were beautiful walk just across the road - dancing ledge, wild meadows. Everyone we met there was very friendly and we would certainly go again and hopefully the new houses will be finished.

We booked on the day of arrival and were pleasantly surprised that even with the quickest of turn arounds we still arrived to a lovely clean cottage with a nice welcome hamper including a treat for our dog. We can agree with other reviews that the cottage is a little difficult to find and the instructions could be a little clearer and they seem to only detail from one direction. We came up from Swanage. We were fully aware that the area was being developed as this was clear on the website but this didn’t affect our stay. Noise was minimal while we were there and we hardly noticed it. The area is beautiful with walks suitable for all abilities. The Kings Arms is a lovely pub just a few minutes walk down the hill with a great selection of drinks and food. The village does lack a shop for any bits and pieces. Yes the pub does serve this but only during the day but we didn’t see any evidence of this. All in all Sea Pink was perfect for us. Both ourselves and the dog found it comfortable and had everything we needed. The local butter was a nice touch!! We would have left a message in the visitors book but the pen had run out

The area is lovely. The access to the cottage is a disgrace to be honest. Nobody would rent if you show the access on your advert. I wouldn’t pay more than £100 per week if I’d have known. Being on the edge of a building site didn’t go down well with the wife either. Barry.

Thank you for your feedback Barry, I am so glad you rated the cottage 5 stars. We apologise for the temporary access which is out of our control and made necessary by the developers of the site next door, but health and safety must always come first. The garden of the cottage is a building site, which was not expressed in the description on line. Also access to the cottage itself is not very easy, car is parked some distance away and access involves going through an old run down wooden door, through an old school reception hall, going down some narrow steps, down some more steps and then to entrance of the cottage. Cottage itself was lovely, but everything around it was not. Cottage not that clean either which was disappointing. over all ok for few days as a base but not for a long stay.

There are regular and reliable buses from the village to Swanage, Corfe Castle, Poole and elsewhere. The cottage is nicely designed though visitors should be aware that the shower isn’t very good as it leaks from the hose and so you get not much than a dribble. There is no freezer and only a small ice box in the fridge, which doesn’t close properly and is consequently too iced up to fit much in. The WiFi is sketchy so you have to be patient with that. Cleanliness not great - floors not properly cleaned and found half eaten biscuit under the sofa and had to wash the crockery as had food remains still on them. It’s good that we knew about the construction before we went but it inhibits sitting in the garden on a nice day due to the noise in particular. Plus there’s a smell of wee so maybe there’s a septic tank nearby. There was a nice welcome gift on arrival, which was appreciated. We booked through Sykes and although we had a good time, in general we have come to expect better from a holiday cottage booked through them.

Thank you for your feedback, I am so pleased you have had a lovely time and enjoyed the cottage and welcome gift. I have passed the issues you mention on to the maintenance and housekeeping team to get those rectified, please do contact us with any issues straight away, as we would always prefer to fix them during your stay. • "A lovely property BUT: - the property sits within and is directly severely impacted by the building site and the access arrangement to the property via a derelict, dirty other building that adjoins."

This fully detracts from the property experience. -the access building is not secure as it is open to the public as both doors are not lockable - anyone can enter - how safe is this? - what are the fire safety arrangements as there is no other way out as the derelict buildings are attached and the building site adjoins? - keeping long lawn grass for wildlife is applauded but what about recycling- only one bin provided - but we must recycle into 3 bins - as you state in the information pack and as we all should? not environmentally friendly sadly. We tried our best with sorting in our own bags in the living room - not ideal. - the TV didn't work - only on our netflix account and we reported this but heard nothing - Wi Fi kept dropping out - it is clear parking is an issue being distant and with the unpleasant access through the derelict building not easy/nice. Clearly all concerned with the letting know that the access and parking arrangement won't work until the new development is complete and bays for the rental properties delivered next to them. Years away? In the meantime the arrangement is not acceptable as others have said previously. I have a video and I am happy to share with future bookees so that they really know what awaits them and informs their decision to book this property. When all of the adjacent building work is complete and access and parking sorted out this will be a fabulous property to rent but not til then. Happy for you to discuss the return of some of our monies as we feel this would be reasonable.

However, we weren’t told that we would have to go through an abandoned/very run down construction site building to get through to the cottages. This was difficult as my partner is disabled. We also were sitting outside and saw a rat go under the wood patio which was obviously alarming. The cottage was beautiful and the design inside was great and allowed a cosy vibe.

This property should not be let whilst all the building workS around it are continuing. 19 new houses and flats are being built in the adjoining building and on the land at the rear of the cottage. It was impossible to find the entrance as the instructions were so out of date. The builders kindly showed us how to gain access as you now access the property through the adjoining derelict building. You have to walk down mouldy, dirty corridors with steps to come out on a rough uneven path at the rear of the property. None of this is detailed on the listing. Parking is also an issue. The gravel area is a fair distance away and very badly signed. If you park in the lane you receive rude notices on your car by the opposite house. So the only option is the main road. This should not be currently let or at least described with updated information clearly detailing the current building work which will only make the situation worse as it progresses in time. If we had been made aware of the building works we would have booked another property and feel Skye’s are at fault over this.

First impressions make a difference - a fridge with a freezer compartment blocked and full of ice, instant coffee solid in its container, an untidy garden and approach path with numerous weeds. The external picnic table also needing renewal. To be fair the owner responded but a holiday arrival should not require such dialogue. The property was clean and well prepared otherwise. To benefit future users I would suggest the stay experience is enhanced by renewing faded towels, the provision of kitchen towel roll and dispenser, a coffee press cafetiere, a wider range of drinking glassware, a salad bowl and a shaving mirror. The wardrobe was full of cleaners equipment which precluded its full use. The property does suffer from road noise and the road facing windows at least need better glazing.

  • "This was not the quiet idyll that we wanted for our holiday."

Let's start with the positives. The cottage was well equipped and just right for what we needed for 2 people and our dog. The cottage is perfectly situated for those who want a walking holiday. It is about a mile to the South West Coastal path and inland footpaths as well. It was a nice surprise to find a welcome afternoon tea as a gift from our hosts, thank you. Unfortunately...... the view from the cottage garden was of a large mound of crushed concrete measuring approx 20 foot high, 50 foot across and 40 foot deep. This rubble was obviously from a recent demolition of buildings that were nearby and was certainly not expected by us. This obliterated our view of the Purbeck Hills. The property directly next door is virtually derelict and due renovation which has started. The south face of the property had scaffold erected during our stay. This together with the mound of crushed concrete was not pleasant and certainly not what we expected from our holiday cottage. The cottage is actually situated on a main road and traffic passes within a few feet of the indoor seating area and bedroom. The traffic includes double decker buses, cars , lorries and the usual farm traffic. At times it felt that vehicles were coming through the wall! The positioning of the cottage also meant that persons walking past on the road footpath could be heard word for word. This was even the case well into the night (3am) with persons chatting loudly on their way home from the pub together with the smell of cannabis permeating through the window frame cracks. We do realise that all of the above is not the fault of the owners. We should have had knowledge of this so we could cancel. We wont return.

Hello, I am so sorry to hear you were disappointed by the cottage, as mentioned in previous replies we have been looking into options to minimise the road noise and have decided on secondary glazing as the building is in a conservation area so we are more limited with what we can do. However we do need to wait for a gap in bookings to be able to install anything, which we will do this winter. In terms of the view, the mound of rubble has been screened off with bamboo fencing, and although it is slightly higher than the fence it is worth noting that the pile of rubble is significantly smaller and further away than the 3 storey building that was there before, meaning you can now see some of the Purbeck Hills! We have worked very closely with the building company to try and minimise any disruption to guests, we are glad you enjoyed the gifts and situation of the cottage. Property Owner

A cream tea was left for us which was much appreciated The only problem was the noise from the cars and buses going passed the bedroom and sitting room windows. Maybe some blackout curtain liners in the bedroom could help. Over all we really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend a visit

Thank you for your feedback. We have now fitted a blackout blind in the bedroom while we look at options for double glazing. The house is in a conservation area and the windows are very unique and part of the character of the building so we want to make sure we do it in a way that is as sympathetic as possible and permitted by the council, while not interfering too much with our guests. • "Lovely cottage, beautifully renovated and very comfortable."

Conveniently placed for exploring surrounding villages and Swanage. The passing busses amused us rather than annoyed. Perhaps people would prefer to know it backs onto the main rd? Really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it but will mention being on the main rd. Many thanks Donna and Mike.

  • "This was one of the best UK cottage stays we have ever had."

Sea Pink Cottage was quite spacious (nice high ceilings) but still really cosy and beautifully warm. The bed was super comfy and most inviting! The cottage was very well equipped with everything we could want and the instructions provided were extensive and helpful. The location is perfect - so close to the Coast Path for exercising our dog and with the local pub a short walk away. The small fenced garden was also a great advantage for our dog and would be lovely on a warmer and sunnier day than mid January offers! Would definitely return.

  • "Clean, cosy and comfortable little cottage."

There was some road noise due to the cottage being next to the main road through the village and having single glazing. The cottage came well equipped although one small toilet roll did not last long, future visitors should be advised to bring their own supply. We had a welcome note from the owners with a bottle of milk, some lovely local bread, biscuits including one for the dog, however, it would have been good to know that the faulty cooker hob was awaiting replacement rather than us having to report it to them, and then discover they already knew….we had another issue with a radiator but that was soon solved the same day. The bed was extremely comfortable , with good pillows and bed linen. The village was well located for walking in the countryside to places such as Dancing Ledge, Worth Matravers (fantastic pub) and even Swanage could be reached via a track called The Priests Way. The Kings Arms in the Village offered the usual pub grub and lovely snug bars with real fires. We also visited Studland with it’s beautiful clean beaches, wild and peaceful nature reserves.

Beautifully furnished, clean, warm and well equipped with a very comfortable bed but single glazed traditional windows in both rooms face right onto a road to Swanage. The website map marker was on the wrong side-road and does not show the proximity to the road. The directions were very poor for arrival in the dark, without even the private road's name on the address. Pretty views across fields. Kind welcome provisions of milk, bread, biscuits and tea & coffee.

Extremely comfortable bed and great pillows. Would have been good to be able to arrive a bit earlier, 5pm seemed very late in the day We had a fab time.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. We have now moved the check in time to 4pm (unfortunately we can't move it back any earlier at the housekeepers have to do multiple houses on a Friday). Property Owner

  • "Lovely place to stay and lovely walks to go on."

Had all you needed in the property. Would definitely book again. Took our dog so very suitable for him and enjoyed the long walks. Though was a little disappointed with local pub only went in once and probably wouldn’t go again. Also the times to book in which was 5pm and to be out by 10am on leaving day. Feel would be better for 3pm and perhaps 11am to leave, understand re COVID though feel it dies need 7 hours cleaning time as you leave as you find and even a deep clean wouldn’t take that long with the size of property. Ending on a positive gorgeous views and really enjoyed our stay

  • "We spent a thoroughly relaxing fortnight during August/September at this splendid cottage that has been tastefully converted."

It is well equipped and furnished to a high standard and is light and airy for a small cottage. The high ceilings and large windows at the front add to this effect. It is also very well maintained. The garden that is accessed round the rear of The Old Malthouse and is the main entrance to the cottage is pleasant and spacious and also very peaceful. We had our golden retriever with us and were fortunate to have good weather throughout our stay. If he had needed to be washed (which he didn’t) before going indoors there was a tap available on the Malthouse building although a hose and adapter would be needed. The walks directly from the cottage are numerous and those particularly towards the coastal path are a treat with glorious scenery in every direction. We holiday in Purbeck regularly and have done for many years. It never fails to deliver. We can certainly recommend this cottage for a happy vacation. Nick & Caroline, Suffolk

About the location

LANGTON MATRAVERS

Swanage 2.6 miles; Wareham 8.2 miles.

The quaint village of Langton Matravers lies on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset, two miles west of Swanage and 5 miles south-east of Corfe Castle. The name Langton derives from ‘long town’ and Matravers stems from the name of the Lord who once resided there. Langton Matravers Museum showcases the local history of the town, providing a complete picture of the ways in which the local stone was quarried and used. The surrounding area is very popular for walking and a number of walking trails pass through the village, including the ‘Smugglers Way’ which begins at Worth Matravers and then travels down to the coast path and back again to visit where smugglers were known to bring their goods ashore. The village is also home to a refreshment shop and a traditional village pub which hosts an annual Stone Carving and Pumpkin Festival. Resting on the outside of the village is Dancing Ledge, an old cliff quarry which offers breath-taking views of the coast. Those who are looking for adventure can even climb the rock face or coasteer at the Ledge.

Please note: The property is located on the main road through the village.
Please note: The property does have steps internal to the property as shown in the pictures.
