  • "The cottage was perfect- just as described."

The Welcome Pack was a lovely surprise. We appreciated having an e-mail from Michaela before we left with all the useful information. The location just couldn’t be better. We hope to return to Lymington and will certainly plan that around the availability of Starboard Light.

  • "Had a lovely few days at Starboard Light cottage, literally in the centre of Lymington."

Parking clock was excellent, with space a few hundred yards away. Cottage spotless and decor very nice. Had everything in it you could want. Stepping out of the front door you need to be careful, as very small pavement. Communication and instructions for key were excellent and a helpful file with info. on the table. Can definitely recommend. Thank you Michaela.

The Car Parking Clock was very useful and saved us quite an expense. The Cottage is well fitted out and very comfortable. We would have preferred 2 small comfortable chairs rather than 4 hard top stools at the table.

Spotlessly clean, it's a great location, close to the quay, shops, pubs and restutants, all being a short walk away. Bed was super comfy. We enjoyed the games too. We bought our small dog as its dog friendly, no out door space but dog park nearby. I'd like to say thank you to the complimentary items, such as fresh bread, butter, juice, jams etc. Was very much appreciated. Really lovely cottage and I'd like to say, having seen a negative review recently that I absolutely disagree with that review this is a lovely place and is exactly what is stated in the description.

  • "As already discussed."

We had to leave the property early due to the fact the dig fell over due to the slippery floor. Also no outdoor space, and right next to a pub. Also the rugs in the bedroom were not secured by a non slip surface, and we weren't able to open the windows and the windows were dull of condensation. Sofa quite hard and uncomfortable, bed ok, and a Nice bedroom and bathroom, but the bed was quite soft for us. Sadly so disappointed in this property, not sure hoe something could be called dog friendly without any outdoor space at all, and in quite a busy road.

We were sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy your stay in Starboard Light, the weather was particularly bad whilst you were there and we can understand how that would have impacted your overall impression. November has been such a wet month! The location, in the middle of Lymington town, is usually what draws people to want to stay in our cottage with the coast and open spaces for dog walking just a few minutes away, we aren’t sure why you would have thought it would have had a garden. Thank you for letting us know that the non slip matting under the rugs have disappeared, we will arrange for these to be replaced straight away. Sofas and beds are such personal choices, from too soft for bad backs to too hard for comfort, but with a lot of reviews stating the cottage was perfect and people having the best nights sleep, we can only apologise that they didn’t suit you in this instance. Only one window isn’t openable and there is a mezzanine roof light window in the bedroom that is openable with a remote control. Glad you liked the bedroom and bathroom though. We have just had a new extractor fan fitted in the bathroom which will hopefully eliminate any condensation build up from the shower. Michaela Property Owner

The compact space is well designed and thought out with a well designed kitchen stocked with a useful set of equipment. The cottage was very clean. The location is great with easy access to lots of walking, local transport and the town a minutes walk away. The parking system worked very well. The only thing I would have appreciated was a recycling facility rather than putting everything in the bin. There was a requirement for me to call the management company to report an issue but after I had left a message I received a call back quickly.

Really pleased you had a great stay in our cottage and that you found it all very comfortable. We haven’t sadly been able to secure a recycling waste pick up and are honest about it, however there are a couple of local places that have recycling bins, that are included in the welcome folder. The local team that look after Starboard Light for us are great and would prefer to hear straight away if there are any issues, so thank you for getting in contact with them, letting them know at the offset helped ensure you had the best possible stay. Look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Michaela Property Owner

It was a lot smaller than we had envisaged from the photos but enough room for two. We found the sofa very uncomfortable so we spent the evenings on the quay as it was good weather. We found the need to replace items we used odd as we have never come across this before in years of renting places several times a year but it was easy to bring our own tinfoil etc and the location was great, near to all the restaurants and amenities of Lymington. We can particularly recommend the pasty shop on the High St.

Apart from that we enjoyed our stay.

Really pleased you enjoyed your stay and gave us full marks for cleanliness, thank you. We both enjoy a bath when we are away if time allows, with the convenience of a shower if it doesn't, so having a shower above the bath especially with its limitless supply of hot water from the combi boiler, leaves both options available to us and anyone else whilst they are staying. Sadly the bathroom isn't large enough to offer both options separately. Glad this didn't deter from your enjoyment of your stay. Michaela Property Owner

  • "A great place to stay for a couple with small dog."

Would recommend having some blackout curtains for the bedroom window and a washing machine would be better than a dishwasher in my view but on the whole a very nice place to stay. Free parking pass was very much appreciated!

Glad you enjoyed your stay! We will have a look to see if we can install a blackout blind as well as the existing wooden venetian blind, as we love having the privacy this gives the room whilst still being able to enjoy the view across the Lymington river towards the Marinas. The Washing machine / Dishwasher debate is an interesting one, we tend to take more than enough clothes with us when we go away (usually way too many!) but the last thing we want to do on holiday is the washing up. Hopefully the facilities available being detailed on Sykes, informs future guests of this, so that it isn't something they are disappointed about on their arrival. There is a laundrette just a 5 min walk away from Starboard Light in case of an emergency. The parking clock is great, especially as it covers a lot of local car parks too! Thank you for your review. Great to hear you enjoyed your stay and thought the location is unbeatable! It is well equipped and considering the recent weather, quite warm too. The en-suite is good, the bedroom comfortable and the living/ kitchen space is ideal for a couple. The road noise is quite obvious and the access/ egress is directly on to a narrow pavement, so care is required with traffic. It will benefit from a few improvements , that we understand the owner is planning.

We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay, it certainly is an enviable location on Captains Row in the heart of Lymington! We have now added the secondary glazing to the lounge and made a few other improvements within the cottage which we hope you will be able to experience on your next visit. Property Owner

Even though parking was not available on site it was very easy to find a space in the car parks near by, using the free permit provided. • "We had a lovely stay at Starboard Light which is a cosy little cottage and perfect for two."

As per the description, there is no parking at the cottage but there was a parking disc provided and plenty of nearby car parks within a two minute walk. The only comment I would make is that pulling up outside in the lane to unload the car was not an option for us. Although it's a small road, it is busy and a main through route. It's also narrow and we felt we would have caused an obstruction if we stopped there. However, the Quay car park is close by and luckily we travel light. We had a short weekend stay and didn't actually use any of the kitchen facilities in the cottage as we ate out every day. There's a good selection of cafes, pubs and restaurants right on the doorstep. However, the kitchen looked to be well stocked with everything you would need. The bedroom and bathroom were gorgeous and the bed was so comfy. The shower was excellent and all the furniture and decor was lovely and homely. We would definitely consider a return visit.

Another vote for the comfy bed and excellent shower, thank you, we are really pleased that you loved your stay and hope you do indeed return soon. Property Owner

Only minutes away from Lymington Station and ferry to IOW. As advertised, stairs were steep, but nothing I have not seen before: they gave an 80 year old and a 70 year old no problem. Cottage had everything we needed and was spotlessly clean on arrival. We could find almost nothing that would have made our stay more enjoyable or relaxing. We will return; thank you.

These were known in advance and did not detract from a very enjoyable stay, helped by the friendliness of the owner (with whom I had prior contact) and the quality of the fittings etc. Thank you.

You are so welcome. Parking with properties in such a centrally located position in Lymington is rare but we find the proximity of the car parks and having the use of the parking clock (which can be used in over 17 car parks throughout the New Forest district) helps to make up for this. We also find that our stays there are packed with so many outdoor activities that by the time we get back to the cottage of an evening we just have enough time to refresh ourselves before heading back out on foot to one of the many local pubs / restaurants with outdoor seating and views across the town or estuary. We are really glad you had an enjoyable stay and look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Property Owner

Ideally placed right in the centre of Lymington. Great communication re directions and parking. I’d imagine the parking would be a challenge in high season. Sofa in the lounge was rather hard and uncomfortable. Minor issues but it is a great place to stay.

So glad you loved our cottage and especially its location, we find it ideal to explore everything Lymington has to offer both town and coastal by foot as well as the New Forest and Isle of Wight slightly further afield by car. Luckily there is ample local parking to cope in the high season as it is a popular day visitor destination so quietens down in the evenings and the parking clock provided is great to use in all the New Forest car parks including Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst. It was a shame you didn’t find you liked the comfort of our Laura Ashley sofa but glad to hear it didn’t detract from your enjoyment of the cottage overall and found it a great place to stay. • "Nice but the road is busy and noisy."

Not the easiest re unpacking and packing the car. The bathroom needs a fan re condensation and a heated towel rail would help. The bedroom is lovely but not being able to open the bedroom window is a problem for us. The stairs are tricky. We missed any kind of a view from the lounge. On entering the property each time there is a smell of damp. We enjoyed our break and loved being in the centre of the town. Loved the decor and seaside theme throughout the cottage.

We are really glad you enjoyed your break and being in the centre of town. It’s a shame you didn’t mention the damp smell at the time so we would have come and investigated it, as it hasn’t been apparent at all since. We did have a problem with the dishwashers drainage but that has all been sorted. Starboard Light’s charm is its central location in the heart of Lymington only a stones throw from the Quay and coastal walks as well as all the local restaurants and bars, a feature you enjoyed, it therefore doesn’t have any off road parking however we do supply a parking clock which you were free to use not only in Lymington but whilst parking in any of the New Forest car parks including those in Lyndhurst & Brockenhurst, quite a saving on parking charges, I'm sure you will agree. It does also mean the road outside gets busy at rush hour but this doesn’t impact your nights sleep in the bedroom which is away from the road with views over the estuary. The sash window is locked due to health & safety so the best way to ventilate the bedroom at night is by using the electronic wall mounted control for the ceiling velux in the room. The cottage has recently been redecorated so we are pleased you enjoyed the seaside theme, hopefully you will be able to return some time soon. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was well presented and well equipped."

However, we experienced several unfortunate issues. We searched for the parking clock for ten minutes when we arrived and eventually found out that the cleaning staff had taken it with them so we had to rapidly unpack in the very narrow street and pay for overnight parking nearby. Then we had to wait in for the clock to be returned before we could go out to eat- not what you need after a long journey. When we at last retired we found that the bed had an ill fitting mattress topper on it as the mattress had certainly seen better days. This led to us giving up by Sunday morning and returning home then. Overall the cottage was clean but the windows were covered in perpetual condensation that however much was mopped up came back almost instantly. Of course this meant there was mould on the window sills. Worrying if you are an asthmatic. Perhaps this particular rent was more suited to summer visitors rather than a winter stay?

We are really disappointed to hear your feedback and how it impacted your stay, especially given we were not made aware at the time, that we haven't had any similar previously or experienced these things ourselves. The only comments we have had regarding the bed, given everything is new, was to say they have had the best nights sleep ever whilst staying there, but we will of course now double check everything. The cleaner had forgotten to put the parking clock back but did bring it to you at 6.30 that evening, very apologetic and offered to pay for your parking. The sash windows can get condensation on them if the heating is on very high but these are cleaned every week and there was no sign of any mould in the property at all when we were there ourselves the week before last. Such a shame you felt you had to leave early when you also say that you found the cottage well presented, well equipped and clean. Hopefully you still had chance to enjoy the amazing location and all that Lymington and the New Forest has to offer before you headed back home Property Owner

    2) window frame behind internal shutters was filthy and had not been cleaned for months. The staircase would be difficult for anyone unsteady on their feet as one side open to lounge and the treads were painted wood making it easy to slip.

I'm really sorry that you had a couple of issues with the cottage during your stay. The window behind the shutters on the bathroom had indeed been missed off the cleaning checklist but has now been added. The toilet had somehow been knocked off the flush pipe during your stay, which our maintenance team has since remedied. The cottage is having a refurbishment at the end of November, during which we will review the staircase again. The painted wooden stairs do already have non slip safety strips on them and there is a handrail, but we understand the potential issue for anyone really unsteady on their feet. I will therefore ask Sykes to change the description accordingly and include a photo of the staircase so all our future guests are aware. Set in the old Georgian part of the town directly on Captains Row, you will be perfectly situated to make the most of Lymington’s pubs, weekly Saturday market, famous marinas, coastal walks, boutique shops, restaurants and the historic and picturesque cobbled Quay Hill and Town Quay - all of these together with the New Forest National Park and the Isle of Wight both being within easy reach, 10 minutes’ drive and a short hop on the local ferry respectively, you will have lots of options for exploring this fantastic area where coast meets Forest.

Upon entering the cottage, you will find an open-plan living area, where you can rustle up a home-cooked meal, dine in style and then curl up and unwind on the sofa, in front of the fire.

As the evening draws to a close, the stairs up from the kitchen lead to the spacious airy bedroom, with its king-size bed, crisp cotton bedding and a large sash window where in the morning you can check out the views over the rooftops to the river and neighbouring marinas - a beautiful view to wake to and watch as you have your coffee.

Adjoining the bedroom is a well-appointed bathroom, with bath tub and shower above.
