  • "Fantastic holiday house."

Perfect for our family of 12. Very well equipped. Beautiful location. Highly recommend.

  • "Marles Farmhouse is a beautiful place to stay."

The house had everything we needed and more. There was plenty of room for nine people and a dog, with enough bathrooms and sitting areas. We found the parking area perfect and the garden was fully enclosed and safe for our dog. A real highlight was the ten minute walk to the local pub where the landlord made us especially welcome, so we felt right at home. Plenty of things to do, Lyme Regis, Durdle Door, the beaches and pretty towns all within an acceptable drive.

  • "On arrival we met Seb our host at Marles Farm- so friendly and accommodating- ensuring that everything was to our liking before leaving us to settle in."

The property is generously proportioned with everything you could need for a weeks stay in the Dorset Countryside- light and airy bedrooms and comfortable beds too. All rooms were spotlessly clean. One of the beauties of Marles Farm are the front and rear mature gardens- the rear being safely enclosed to allow our young children to play on the swings and our little dog to explore. There are two living rooms at the property- but there is only one TV with the "Games Room"- a suggestion for the hosts would be to consider another TV in the main living area to allow different ages to enjoy an evening in separate rooms if required. Another point worth making is that Marles Farm is located on a single track road with passing points- you may wish to consider how confident your driving skills are before booking. This should not however distract from what a hidden gem Marles Farm truly is! It has allow 4 generations to enjoy a summer holiday all together and we have made memories to last a lifetime- thank you!

We found it spacious, comfortable, and well-appointed throughout. The gardens front and rear were perfect for kids playing or eating al fresco. The location is very quiet with walks from the doorstep, but only a short drive to Bridport. The owners, who live in an adjacent building, are friendly and took our children to collect eggs from their chickens, which they enjoyed.

We had an enjoyable time. The games facilities are great. The kitchen is really well equipped for cooking, and the dining area works well. The house is in a lovely quiet, rural location. However, I think the downstairs bedroom is really only suitable for teenagers rather than big adults - it is a small room and the beds were low and not comfy for older adults - it is too far away from parents for young children but teenagers would enjoy it. The upstairs bedrooms are comfortable and spacious with excellent bathroom facilities for a big group.

An extremely nice holiday home, in a lovely area and with all the facilities and contents one could wish for. Very nice owners too. Our family had a lovely stay. I have more reservations about the Sykes experience. You do not make dealing with you easy. Firstly, when invited to email or call the Sykes person who is responsible for cleaning and organising Marles Farmhouse to order a cot and high chair, my email was ignored. I had to email twice before I got a reply. Secondly, your automated phone system is very clunky and requires the caller to listen to the entirety of several lists of options, and when one has finally been able to press the right number to choose an option you simply go into a holding queue with vile distorted music and no sense of how long the queueing will last. The person I finally spoke to about the item that had been left behind needed my authority as booker to speak to the person (my sister in law) who had called you about the item she had left at the cottage. I would have thought that a call from someone who had clearly stayed at the cottage, when the item had been found, would have been sufficient for your to be able to deal with my sister in law directly without wasting my time with your automated phone system!

Dear Ms Stoss, we are really glad you enjoyed your stay at Marles Farmhouse. We are sorry that the service provided by Sykes wasn’t a good experience for you. We are always happy to receive feedback and we will use your suggestion in order to improve our system. Property Owner

The property

About a mile from the pretty Dorset villages of Salwayash and Waytown, on the edge of the beautiful Marshwood Vale, an area of outstanding beauty and within the Dorset National Landscape is Marles Farmhouse. This detached, stone-built, fabulous family home is approached along wooded lanes and bordered by rolling green fields. Peaceful and secluded with no near neighbours, (The owner lives on-site in their converted dairy) the property was completely refurbished in 2015 to include modern comforts, which perfectly complement the original 19th century thick stone walls, beams and fireplace, to create a smart, spacious and welcoming home including many changes to minimise environmental impact such as solid wall insulation, solar with battery storage and water hearting, biomass heating and EV charging. Since then, there have been ongoing improvements to ensure the property is kept up to date and the house and gardens are beautifully maintained. A huge, well-equipped kitchen with polished granite surface, range cooker and a dining area big enough to accommodate everyone is the real heart of the home. Stretch out in front of a cosy wood burning stove in the sitting room, or for those not so sunny days the family/games room with table football, TV/DVD/Blu-ray, and a WiFi/Bluetooth connected music system will keep everyone occupied.

Alternatively, gather the family around the piano and sing along. Also on the ground-floor is a twin bedroom and a shower-room making this property suitable for those who are less mobile. Staircases at either end of the house lead to the first floor and five further bedrooms, all with pretty views over the garden and fields beyond, two king size doubles with en-suite shower-rooms, two twins with zip-linkable beds to create doubles and a family room with adult bunks. There are two further bathrooms on this floor to complete the living accommodation. Outside, to the front, a wide paved terrace with picnic benches and a barbecue catches the sun all day long, whilst to the rear, the cottage garden looking over sheep-grazed fields, and chickens (no cockerel!) has an enclosed lawn with table/chairs and is a great spot for morning coffee and wildlife-watching and you will see may see deer, foxes, owls and bats. A children's climbing frame/swing and an open-fronted garage with table tennis are sure to be a great hit with the younger family members. Scenic and secluded, Marles Farmhouse is perfectly placed for exploring this popular area of Dorset with good walking from the front door. About the location

SALWAYASH

Bridport 4.5 miles.

The attractive market town of Bridport grew up around the River Brit, and was shaped by its extensive history of rope and net making. The long, wide streets and alleyways between the houses were once where the flax strands were twisted into rope, while today those streets are filled with an interesting variety of shops, restaurants and inns. Bridport’s market is regularly featured on the River Cottage TV programme. 2 miles south of Bridport is the dramatic Jurassic coast at West Bay, now a World Heritage Site, home to the backdrop for TV's Harbour Lights and the coastal setting for popular Broadchurch, whilst the picturesque resort of Lyme Regis is within 10 miles. A superb base for exploring wonderful West Dorset.
