The Penthouse in West Bay has always been my wife and my preferred choice for a peaceful week-long getaway in November, consistently delivering first-rate, 5-star luxury—exactly what one should expect for the price paid. Unfortunately, upon our arrival on Friday, November 22nd, we found the building covered in scaffolding. While this was less than ideal and we wished we had been informed when making the booking, we thought we could manage. What we found unacceptable was a group of loud workmen showing up right outside the balcony and terrace of the Penthouse at 8:30 in the morning, working on the wall render just inches from the windows. It quickly became clear that a private and tranquil week away was out of the question. As Lyme Bay Holidays could not provide an alternative property of similar caliber, we made the decision to leave for home immediately. Additionally, we typically purchase frozen foods for our stay and use the Penthouse freezer. Regrettably, either the previous occupant or an operative from Lyme Bay had turned off the freezer at the mains, and we only discovered this hours later when we found all the food had thawed and was spoiled. In conclusion, after numerous telephone calls to Lyme Bay Holidays (now operated by Sykes Cottages), we were able to secure a partial refund. However, since we had to cut our trip well short, it was clear we did not enjoy the week we had hoped for. To date, we have yet to receive any apology from either Lyme Bay Holidays or the property owners, which is particularly disappointing considering we are loyal customers and given the significant amount we spent

Perfect for families or couples travelling together, the accommodation is spacious and luxuriously appointed.
Its elevated setting means the apartment is able to offer simply mesmerising views from its stunning terrace and the property directly overlooks picturesque West Bay harbour making it a simply magnificent spot for enjoying some time alfresco drinking, dining, soaking up the views and generally getting into the holiday spirit.
The entrance hall opens out into the gorgeous open-plan living space which makes the most of those captivating views with feature floor-to-ceiling windows.
The large windows also help to create a real feeling of light as sunlight comes flooding in adding to the bright and airy ambience of the apartment.
There is a welcoming seating area where you can imagine spending many happy hours enjoying each other’s company and chilling out and the sleek and contemporary kitchen is comprehensively fitted with everything you could possibly need to create some fabulous cuisine for you and your family.
Once you have prepared the food, step into the elegant dining area where it is all set up ready for long, lingering meals.
The space offered by the apartment is made for entertaining and lends itself to a truly sociable holiday time.
When night falls and sleep calls, make your way to either of the two splendidly presented bedrooms, either the king-size or the twin, both with impressive French doors leading out onto the balcony and offering enchanting harbourside views.
After a long soak in the bath or a quick refreshing shower, you’re ready to head out and explore the delights of Dorset.
West Bay is a picture-postcard town with beautiful beaches, glorious cliffs and scenic coastal walks so make sure you don’t forget your camera.
Bridport is a short drive away along the Jurassic Coastline and has a good selection of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants and more delightful beaches with Lyme Regis also nearby where you can visit Dinosaurland Fossil Museum, Lyme Regis Museum and Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium.
Other places worth a visit whilst in the area include Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary, Tunnel Tree Tops high ropes and zip wire, Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens, Pecorama and Seaton Tramway.
For an elevated stay in an elevated apartment, The Penthouse is a must-visit.

West Bay, fondly known as “The Gateway to the Dorset Jurassic Coast” and popularised by the TV series Broadchurch, lies close to the glorious sandstone cliffs of Golden Cap, at the western end of the dramatic pebbly Chesil Beach. This is a wonderful seaside location, perfect for family holidays, offering scenic walks along the South West Coast Path, as well as ample opportunities to try your hand at sea fishing, crabbing, boating and golf. Visit the homes of Thomas Hardy and TE Lawrence, the Tank Museum at Bovington or the Naval air Museum at Yeovil. Only 1.5 miles away is the vibrant market town of Bridport, featured in the TV series, River Cottage. The area holds plenty of attractions to suit the whole family! Just a short drive West takes you to Charmouth for fossil hunting, to the picturesque seaside resort of Lyme Regis, and to River Cottage HQ near Axminster. To the East are the lovely Sub-tropical Gardens and Swannery at Abbotsbury, and the golden sands of Weymouth. This wonderful location makes an ideal base for a great family holiday.
