  • "Perfect away from it all holiday!"

Very peaceful and quiet, something what we were looking for. Close to the beach, which was nearly empty all the time. It is not a luxury cottage, so not for everyone. Good for dogs, but the garden is not fenced. The only thing we didn't find in the cottage was a dustpan. Beds very comfortable, I wish I knew what brand of mattress was in the bedroom. Yes - we would come back and yes - we would recommend

  • "We had a good week and spent most of it out and about."

Finding eweleaze was not easy due to an error in the instructions the oversized number is 31 not 33. The accommodation is ok but the large number of extension leads for electrical appliances was concerning. Had we used the wood burner there was no guard around it making it dangerous if children are about. The area around the house is lovely and so quiet and the field down to the beach was perfect for our spaniel to run around in. All in all we enjoyed our holiday and revisited lots of places.

  • "The setting can’t be faulted, perfect for dog owners, such easy access to the beach with out touching the road."

The clubhouse for a meal is lovely and also dog friendly, the fish and chips gorgeous, the only down side I found was the steps down from the double bedroom, if you are a bit unsteady on your feet they could present a challenge. A beautiful area and the accomodation suited our needs, loved the fig framing the entrance to the garage. Apart from the drive down from where I live I would certainly come again. So peaceful and quiet. Thankyou

  • "In the past we have found Sykes cottages to be of a high standard, so I'm not sure how this cottage made it on to your books."

It is in a lovely location and has a nice sitting out area, but the property is in sore need of attention. Although just about clean enough, a lot of the furniture is grubby and rickety, particularly the dining chairs and the outside furniture. Fortunately we are both fairly lightweight. The cutlery and crockery are well past their best and there is a worrying old fashioned light switch just above the kitchen sink. A lot of the electric points are provided through use of extension leads. The entrance to the property through the untidy barn garage could be considered as quirky but old 3 piece suites lying around are never a pleasant sight. We didn't mind the very overgrown garden too much, but I think some people would object and the plants growing round the house walls obscured the view through the windows. There was no mention in the property details that I could see about the fact that visitors may need £1 coins to top up the meter. We didn't need to do this, but in cold weather I think it might be necessary. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom just about satisfactory. We don't think this property represented value for money and will think twice about using Sykes in the future.

Many thanks to Judith for this feedback. It has certainly made us think, as we have literally the only ever received positive comments about Eweleaze in the past. On reflection, many of the points made have been good prompts for us to improve on, and in almost every case we have done so or have plans to do so. (eg we have a large program of electric improvements booked in and have renewed or improved much of the inventory). We have entirely re-written the cottage description so that people understand the accommodation we are offering and its setting. We've reviewed and amended pricing structure and now feel confident we do offer good value. Look at the pictures; read the description and if they suit your needs then please do try a stay at Eweleaze. From Eweleaze owners. Property Owner

Park up and unpack, then settle into your new lodgings by getting to work in the kitchen area where the chosen chef will find everything they'll need to whip up a delicious, home-cooked meal.

Gather around the dining table to savour your meals as your catch up on the day's events with your loved ones, before lighting the woodburning stove and taking a seat on the sofa to enjoy your favourite television shows on the TV.

In the warmer months, be sure to take a glass of your favourite tipple or soft drink out into the garden, where you and the family can raise a toast to your holiday, all whilst soaking in the beautiful woodland and sea vistas that encompass your new dwelling.

When sleep calls, refresh with a rejuvenating shower or bath before retiring to one of two inviting bedrooms, both of which await to whisk you off to a night of well-earner slumber.

When you're ready, take time to explore your surroundings by paying a visit to The Club House restaurant, which lies just a stone's throw from the property, serving up tasty food with an excellent setting.

A short stroll will also bring you to the magnificent landscape of the West Bexington Nature Reserve, where rolling hills and the expansive Chesil Beach showcase the natural beauty the Dorset coast has in spades.

A short drive away will bring you to locations such as Weymouth to the east, home to SEA LIFE Centre Weymouth and the lush sands of Bowleaze Cove, whilst brief car journey in the opposite direction will take you to the market town of Bridport, where visitors can spend time at the Bridport Museum and the hiking spot of West Bay Promenade.

About the location

WEST BEXINGTON

Abbotsbury 3 miles; Bridport 6 miles.

Lying next to the sea and Chesil Beach, equidistant between Burton Bradstock and Abbotsbury, is the small village of West Bexington. This is a stunning area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as an area of Special Scientific Interest - pebbled Chesil Beach, which extends for 14 miles, from Burton Bradstock to the Portland peninsula, is part of the Jurassic Coast and now a World Heritage Site. Fishermen and walkers are well provided for, as a great variety of fish can be caught at any time of year, and the South West Coastal Path runs right alongside the beach. Only confident swimmers should attept to swim here, but Weymouth, offering lovely, gently shelving sands, is only a short drive away. There's lots to see and do within easy reach of the village. No journey to this area would be complete without a visit to picturesque Abbotsbury, 3 miles, with its Swannery, Tithe Barn and Sub Tropical Gardens, with Dorchester, Bridport, and Lyme Regis all within easy reach.
