  • "Wonderful house, loved every minute of our stay."

The property had everything we needed for a great holiday celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary with family. Very comfortable and clean with fantastic views of West Bay and out to sea. We will definitely book again if available next year. We all love West Bay.

Thank you for your lovely feedback, we will almost certainly make it available for next year. Property Owner

  • "A wonderful location and a great property."

Thank you. Sadly there were 5 loads of dog mess left by the previous people. We had four young children with us so that really was bad for us to find on arrival. It was all over the garden. Secondly, please find a way to offer recycling. Telling holiday makers to drive to the tip is unreasonable and people won’t do it. It’s 2024- we must all do better for our planet. Other properties had lots of different bins. Overall we loved it though. Very well equipped place with beautiful views. We had a fabulous time.

  • "Nice house nice position was exactly as we expected but I think Sykes Cottages let you down as you can’t get hold of anyone."

You can’t talk to anyone. This is important to get your Holiday right So when I had to report a problem, they couldn’t talk to me because I didn’t have my reference number that is Unacceptable !

  • "The accommodation provided a wonderful living space and we enjoyed our stay immensely."

It was good that there were plenty of games, books and even such things as art materials available. It was well equipped and there was nice bed linen and towels. It was noticeable that thought had gone into visitor comfort. Very minor things: The shower floors were not as clean as they could have been. We could have done with a teapot. It was surprising that there was only one tea towel (fortunately I had brought more from home), no washing-up liquid and a very small washing up cloth. A couple of things needed attention and dealt with quickly and efficiently by the managers of the property.

  • "The house worked for us as we love open plan kitchen/dining/living areas."

These were really well zoned. The dogs liked using the small balcony as their lookout post. They enjoy repelling invaders. Upstairs was comfortably lived in, downstairs the bedrooms and bathrooms were immaculate. Great position for views and access to West Bay/coastal path as advertised. Lovely planting in garden though I did itch to do some deadheading! Two points: front door tricky to lock/unlock; initial access to property through gate a bit tricky with prams or reduced mobility on steps without handrail. A fabulous property and we would return. Thank you for sharing your home.

Glad you enjoyed your time in our house. We take your point about the hand rail and will look into it.If you return you are welcome to dead head the flowers! Property Owner

  • "Beautiful house in the perfect location by the beach to explore the Jurassic coast."

It’s barely 30 seconds straight onto the coastal path from a private residents only access one way and another minute the other way onto West Beach and into West Bay centre. We really enjoyed the open plan upstairs and spent too many hours rain or shine getting lost in the seaview. We wanted a quiet beach holiday so was happy with off season West Bay which still provided plenty of options for all our needs. Judging from the holiday parks around West Bay, we imagine it gets heaving in summer months. As the other guests mentioned we also received a lovely hamper with tasty Dorset treats! Yummy! We would recommend the host consider providing some cleaning products and extra tea towels and bin liner. We didn’t find any recycling facility which is weird as the other residents had recycling and composting bins. If we were ever back in Dorset, would definitely be looking to stay in Sandy Combe again!

  • "What a fabulous house!"

Stylish and well equipped, it really felt like home for our very sunny week in Dorset. We loved the sea views and the 20 metre walk from the garden gate to the cliff top benches, enjoying a glass of wine whilst taking in the stunning views and the glorious sunsets. We loved every minute of our stay here and we really didn’t want to go home…especially our two dogs who thoroughly enjoyed living their best life by the sea. The gorgeous welcome hamper was a lovely touch too. Thank you so much to the owners for sharing their lovely home and if you rent it out again next year, I’m sure we will be back.

  • "Beautiful house in a stunning location with lovely views."

Ample space, very comfortable, nice garden. Beds comfortable. Very short walk to beaches and harbour, coastal path just a few steps from house. Veranda was wonderful spot to catch sun and enjoy the view. Only negative was cleanliness. Kitchen and bathroom sinks, toilets and shower clean, but mirrors, floors, radiators, window sills etc were not as clean as I expected and there were no cleaning products available for me to remedy thus, so I had to purchase. Apart from this we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would return.

  • "An absolute gem of a property, the information and facilities provided for the guests were pitched just right, enough to get us going."

The welcome hamper was a nice touch. The general upkeep and high quality of the property did not go unnoticed, it made the property feel like a home away from home, and somewhere we looked forward to getting back to. it was a pleasure to stay there. If I had to say any negatives, they are small, after my shower walking bare foot in the main bedroom, my feet were covered in dust?! maybe the rugs were not hoovered? And the bin situation was a bit confusing, with no recycle bins etc.. and a full blue wheelie bin on the Saturday that we arrived.

Dear Dipesh, Thank you for your feedback. Sandy Combe is our home rather than just a holiday home and we will probably let it again next Summer if you would like to return. The bins are commercially operated while we are letting and recycling is not possible which is a shame. We are very pleased you enjoyed yourselves. Best wishes, Tony and Liz Property Owner

  • "What an amazing property in an amazing location."

We thoroughly enjoyed our week there and were reluctant to come home. An area of improvement would be the cleanliness, it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t spick and span! You could see under the sofas were quite thick with dust and there was a lot of cobwebs. Nothing to affect our stay but I would have expected the cleaning to have been of a better standard for the cost of the holiday.

Hi Jessica, Thanks for the feedback and we are delighted that you had a good time. You are our first guests and you will not believe how hard we worked getting the place ready but we will make sure the cleaning is more thorough next time, the 9ft + ceilings don't help! Property Owner

About the location

WEST BAY

Bridport 1.5 miles; Lyme Regis 11 miles

West Bay, fondly known as “The Gateway to the Dorset Jurassic Coast” and popularised by the TV series Broadchurch, lies close to the glorious sandstone cliffs of Golden Cap, at the western end of the dramatic pebbly Chesil Beach. This is a wonderful seaside location, perfect for family holidays, offering scenic walks along the South West Coast Path, as well as ample opportunities to try your hand at sea fishing, crabbing, boating and golf. Visit the homes of Thomas Hardy and TE Lawrence, the Tank Museum at Bovington or the Naval air Museum at Yeovil. Only 1.5 miles away is the vibrant market town of Bridport, featured in the TV series, River Cottage. The area holds plenty of attractions to suit the whole family! Just a short drive West takes you to Charmouth for fossil hunting, to the picturesque seaside resort of Lyme Regis, and to River Cottage HQ near Axminster. To the East are the lovely Sub-tropical Gardens and Swannery at Abbotsbury, and the golden sands of Weymouth. This wonderful location makes an ideal base for a great family holiday.
