"Overall a great place to stay, ideal if your a dog owner with the park area across the road."
Very spacious and comfortable
A coupe of tiny set backs that would have made it perfect, which we have put in the guest book, but would highly recommend Bayview

"Firstly I want to say that we really enjoyed our stay but I have to caveat that by saying it was because of the amazing location rather than the house."
From here it is under 10min walk to get feet onto a sandy beach, or the local shop, or the land train at Hengistbury Head. Simply cross the road, enter the field and the dog went off lead. There are also many “beryl bike” locations not far away for bike hire should that suit you.
Other people have commented on the busy road- it’s not that busy but the house is facing a junction and we appreciated the new bedroom curtains which did block out car and street lights. The decor is tasteful and I would guess newish for the most part. Though some maintenance is needed (eg end panel next to washing machine).
Maybe the owner is new to the holiday rental market? Glasses and crockery fill the kitchen cupboards, while an adequate supply is needed there’s just too much; maybe that suits Airbnb guests wanting a party place, but for a family on a week’s holiday we had to empty a cupboard to be able to fit food in, rather than leave it loose. A surprise to find empty tea and coffee containers on counter and my first stay in a cottage where owner hadn’t left a pint of milk in fridge and other welcome items too.
Garden furniture still needs a serious look despite owner claiming to have replaced it. Many chairs (which were by appearance certainly not new) on the patio had broken or loose slats and unsafe to sit on.
We question both sofas comfort for sitting on, and the choice of futons rather than “real” beds in 2 of the bedrooms. Again perhaps aiming for a different market than a family? Other cottages I’ve stayed in tend to have a second telly in the main bedroom perhaps this absence reflects a perceived switch to mobile use?
The bathroom also needs consideration. I’m not elderly (yet), and I saw the new handles, but the bath is a case of sit on side and swing legs over. For the bathroom to have the only shower but also the only loo? This caused a bottle neck at times when going out or coming in (eg from beach) and there were only 4 of us not the 8 the house claims to be able to accommodate. Am hoping for future guests that owners will consider some out of season major works replacing bath with separate bath & shower (the room is big enough) and finding space for a second toilet.
Individually I know most of these comments seem petty niggles but after 20 years of using cottages across the country of all shapes and sizes, town and rural, this one although having best ever location, suitable parking, and with fully enclosed garden for dog, somehow just didn’t measure up to what we hoped for, or the price!

"We had a fantastic stay at Bay View Cottage, the location is absolutely ten out of ten, the views the peace, so much to see and do, ideal location, we fell in love with the area."
The property was comfortable and cozy, all beds were clean and fresh and kitchen fab, lovely garden very safe for the dogs.
Everything we needed was pretty much available in the cottage.
Really lovely safe place to stay, wish we had of booked one more night, we did think about contacting the owners!
We would say the only disappointing factor was the outside garden furniture was very tired and parts of it unsafe, which put my 80year old mum off sitting on it, maybe invest in a new set or a paint job, as we had glorious weather and love sitting outside.
Also we did have a little blockage in the toilet, which husband sorted but having a plunger to hand would of saved time and mess clearing up.
Would these points put us off staying again, No we are keen to book up again very soon but would like to see the changes made.
I would recommend this property very much and we are very excited to return soon.
Thank you guys The Sands x

"Our second holiday at Bayview ."
This property is in an ideal location situated across the road from Hengistbury Head nature reserve and close to Southbourne , and , many dog friendly beaches . There are many options for dog walks from the bungalow . The property is comfortable and well equipped , care needs to be exercised when stepping in and out of the large bath to shower . We are aged 70 and 66 and managed to do this without mishap . The garden furniture could do with an upgrade . Overall another enjoyable stay .

"Great location near beaches and Hengistbury Head although near a busy junction with street lights immediately outside."
Blackout curtains would be a useful addition to the front bedroom. The property is very tired. Two of the beds are very low to the ground and soft. The garden furniture is very old and some chairs are broken. The cooker hood extractor and fan didn't work. The worst problem was the bath which was unsafe if you have any mobility issues. It is enormous and has no grab rails so getting in and out is extremely difficult if you have any mobility issues. My wife refused to use it. How did it pass any safety assessment? It would also have been useful if there had been any instructions for some of the equipment. We never did manage to work out how and when the heating was supposed to work as it seemed to turn on at random times of the day and the middle of the night
Thank you for your feedback, it is much appreciated. We have taken on board your comments and have replaced the curtains with black out curtains, installed grab rails on the bathtub, replaced the hood extractor fan and removed the broken furniture. There is also an instruction manual now at the property. Again, many thanks for your feedback.

"Although the property is in a good location and the dogs loved the walks that are on the doorstep, the property is very tired."
The property was not very clean either. The beds, although reasonably comfortable, 1 was very low, virtually on the floor. The garden furniture is old and when 2 of the chairs were sat on they broke, had to use the dinning chairs outside as didn't want to risk any more chairs breaking.
Hi Mr Smith, thank you for your feedback. I apologise that you felt this way about the property. We have always seen the cottage after change over and feel that it is cleaned thoroughly each time. We have also replaced the broken chairs. Many thanks.

"Disappointing start because cottage had not been cleaned."
Owner apologetic however cleaners didn't leave until 6pm From exterior it looked neglected (lawn cutting etc) Property right on junction with street lighting outside not shown in pictures. Might be an issue for some.
Garden very dog friendly secure high fence - safe even for jumpers! Plenty of walks from doorstep. Hundreds of dogs on/around Hengistbury Head - never seen so many in one place !!
Well/tastefully decorated and equipped through out. One or two small changes needed re plugs/lights/curtains. Sofa comfortable. TV good. Intermittent phone signal within property. Main bedroom bed comfortable. Plenty storage. Other two beds very low to ground. Bath double size and whirlpool in picture doesn't work. Easy reach of Southbourne and Christchurch/ Mudeford beaches etc
Hi, we are so sorry about the start of your stay. This has never happened before and our cleaning company took full responsibility of their error. With that being said, we understand your frustration. We ensured we resolved the issue as soon as possible and hope you were able to enjoy the rest of your stay at Bayview Cottage.

"The location is the selling point for this bungalow, absolute dream position."
Advertised that it takes 8 but it only has one toilet so that would not be ideal. The bath in the property is ridiculous, I cannot believe it passed a risk assessment. No steadying bars no slip mats. The property is more suited to summer high temperature holidays as it is a very cold bungalow without heating. When the heating worked it was fine but a bit hit and miss. Booking with Sykes was all ok.
Hi Rita, thank you for your review. We appreciate you taking time to do this. Regarding your comments, we have placed handrails against the wall next to the bath for support and there are slip mats at the property. We have also put some ‘how to’ instructions for the heating system inside the property. We hope you enjoyed your stay. Many thanks.

"Lovely place."
Excellent location as only 5 minutes walk (with slow old dog) direct to beautiful beach. Enclosed garden. Plenty parking. Huge Telly. Very warm. Many local food places that can deliver and a chippy just up the road. A few lovely second-had shops in Tuckton - we know how to live. Dogs didn't want to leave! Would definitely revisit. Thank you.

"Loved the location."
Perfect.
Good sized place, 6 adults, 1 baby, 1 dog.
Everything you needed in kitchen. Very well equipped. Nice having a big tv.
Bath / shower is a massive size.
Quite hard to climb into and out off if you have any kind of disability. Normal shower would be more suitable.
2 of the beds are very low.
But saying that, we discovered there was not an iron or ironing board,
we were going to a wedding,
I text the owner and he very kindly brought one straight round. Also he let us check out a bit later as struggling to get out with baby on time.
That was all very much appreciated.
We would definitely return.
I believe they have only recently started renting this property, so to be fair they have done very well.
Thankyou.

"We loved the spacious bungalow and the area, just a little tip for future ..."
We loved the spacious bungalow and the area, just a little tip for future holiday makers, if you have an electric toothbrush/shaver take an adapter plug, as there's no shaver point (a small detail) 2 of the double beds are Futon style so very low, & hard to get in and out of, if you are elderly like me,
The area is very quiet which suited us, you would need to drive or walk a fair distance to get to any amusements or restaurants,
Very close to Hengibury Head nature reserve, with lots of interesting walks
Overall we enjoyed our stay and may return with the grandchildren

"We had a very enjoyable week at Bayview ."
The bungalow is comfortable and practicable , and the layout suited us all particularly the dog . The only problem we had was with the bathroom , being aged 65 & 70 we found it awkward getting in and out of the bath to have a shower . Having said this we would not hesitate in returning for another visit. It is a dog walkers paradise , you literally cross the road and there is grassy parkland leading to the nature reserve and dog friendly beaches . Southbourne beach is 10/15 minutes away if you want a traditional day at the beach. You can spend the whole holiday without using the car .

"We very much enjoyed our stay at Bayview Cottage."
OK we were lucky with the weather (heat wave) but it is a great spot from which to explore all around us - Southbourne beach; Hengistbury Head; Medford Spit; Christchurch and so much more.
The property has pretty much everything you'd expect and offers good communal space. It's comfortable with six occupants; eight would be a squeeze. There's scope for improvement on some of the details which we're sure will come. We will definitely be looking to go back and would hope to give the property a 5* ranking after a future visit.
The location is on the corner of a road junction that leads up to Hengistbury Head and Mudeford. This means there's a bit more traffic than you'd expect and the house enjoys quite a lot of street lighting coming in to the front rooms. Not ideal but certainly not enough to discourage us from planning a return.

"We had a wonderful time on our holiday and the property was excellent for what we needed."
My daughter loved having a double bed to herself!! It is certainly a property that is suitable for young children as it's one level and has a lovely big garden. You just have to take your own travel cot etc if you go with younger children. The large bath was also a big hot with the children!!
We would definitely return to this property and recommend it to others.
Thank you for helping make our holiday memorable!

I work away a lot as a RHS Gold Garden Designer so I need to stay in nice places, so me and my partner were very happy here although just the two of us (but the place is huge and all on one level too) and our Gordon Setter (the dunes and beach are over the other side of the road, literally, and the beach well...deserted and in the distance is the main Bournemouth beach where the hordes go, so great for dog and children or just walking
Best Wishse and we will be back Paul & Callum +Rusty the doggy
ps recommend the Indian Takeway in Tuckton Village!
