The sun inn is wonderful after a long dog walk through the beautiful countryside.

Thank you for the kind feedback. Very glad to hear both of you and your dog enjoyed the Herefordshire countryside. The Sun inn is the perfect place to kick back and relax in. Hope to welcome you back soon. Property Owner

  • "Quirky cottage yes but in need of some TLC , kitchen lacking in utensils / equipment , some rather unclean areas ."

Main front bedroom needs a decent size mirror near an electric socket and a king size bed would be more comfy than the very small double , 2nd bedroom dark and dusty. On street parking isn't that easy to find in evenings. On a positive note its central location is good and Leintwardine is a lovely village.

Sorry to hear things weren’t to your liking. I have read and acted on your suggestions. I can assure you that we dust and anti bac all surfaces and vacumn and mop all floors throughout, every week. I have put some more cutlery in the drawers, although I am not a fan of “jumble sale” drawers of odd utensils. Former guests have baked cakes and made full Christmas dinners with the existing items. Fern house is never going to be a pristine white IKEA box of a house. It’s at least four hundred years old. The mirror in the bathroom is brightly lit and most guests find that sufficient. The double in the main room is full sized with the back bedroom one a small double which is why we say Fern house sleeps three people. Glad you enjoyed Leintwardine. It is a great village with super friendly people. Property Owner

The village has everything we needed, very friendly people who made us feel like part of the village, outstanding butcher, free range eggs from the house across the street, well stocked shop at the garage and fantastic fish and chips at The Lion hotel. Fern House just felt like home the minute I walked in. Such a beautiful cottage with the sweetest patio garden. Interiors are absolutely gorgeous, loved all the wooden beams on show. Everything you could ever need, just not necessarily where you’d expect so it was a treat to explore the kitchen cupboards. Wish I could’ve stayed longer! Thanks so much Judith

An old house with loads of character. Comfortable sofa & chair and beautiful fireplace in the lounge, and beds very comfy too. Everything worked as expected. Will definitely have no hesitation staying here again.

Thank you for your feedback. We have bought some new larger towels for the cottage. Towels can be a personal preference. I don’t use fabric conditioner on them as some people say they don’t dry as well. But I am going to maybe use a bit and see how that works. Not sure what to do about the microwave. Very friendly pretty village, friendly and a helpful next door neighbour. The little courtyard was ideal but would have benefited from a sun parasol,as we had glorious weather.

Thank you for your kind comments, we would love to welcome you back to Fern House. We agree with you that Leintwardine really is a remarkably friendly village . The courtyard is a great sun trap if you enjoy hot weather but we have had some very hot days this year. We do have a sun Sail in the back porch. It’s folded up in a bag on one of the shelves. There are hooks on the porch and the opposite fence. I don’t leave it up because if we had a downpour it would fill up with water and possibly cause damage. I felt a parasol would be in the way when not in use . I perhaps need to find a better solution that is easier for guests to use. I will give it some thought! Cheers. Judi Property Owner

Met so many welcoming people and doggies! The Sun inn is a must go to for relaxing atmosphere, real ale, and tasty bar snacks and the Lion Inn does lovely meals too. The chippy at the end of the road did the nicest fish and chips we've ever had! The cottage itself was amazing, wood burning stove was super warm, comfortable lounge, well equipped kitchen and pretty courtyard to listen to the nearby church bells. Beds were really comfortable too. And everything was as described (including the low doorway height that husband managed to bang his head on at least once a day) The owner Judi made contact and was super friendly and helpful and the welcome pack was much appreciated. Will be back and would recommend.

Thank you for your lovely feedback Cathie. Sorry about your husbands poor head! People must have been smaller back in the 16th century when Fern house was built! I will pass your comments to the people at the Chippy I know they will be delighted. They are very proud of their place (plaice) and have won lots of awards. We are constantly reviewing the options for the cottage and always aim to maximise our guests comfort. However space is limited as the cottage is very old and not designed for white goods. We made the decision to put a dishwasher in instead as we felt that would get more day to day use. Future inclusions in 2022 will be an air frier, new patio furniture and replacing the back porch with a new smarter conservatory type space. We appreciate that guests who enjoy walking or outdoor pursuits may wish to clean clothes and we provide details of the nearby laundrette in Craven arms as well as an airer/maiden with iron and ironing board for hand washed items. The cottage was cosy, we really enjoyed the wood burner, but the stone floors and wooden floorboards did make it a bit cold. Unfortunately there were no tea towels, oven gloves and no liquid hand soap in the bathroom and we were only supplied with one bath towel each but no hand towel each. Also need better instructions about bins as we did not know where to put out rubbish, what bags to use or what to do with recycling. The spec on the Sykes website mentions a games room which is inaccurate.

With the COVID ongoing we are were advised against providing towels and tea towels this was communicated in emails you would have received from Sykes. The details regarding the bins are on page 13 of our welcome leaflets With this in mind we are writing up a bullet point sheet that will cover the most common questions. The only caveat I would give is if you're slightly tall, beware of the low lintels, I did a very good impression of Terry Butcher after coming down the stairs one day! Two good pubs, the Lion, which apparently does good food, but as dogs are only allowed in the top bar which is a bit soulless we only went into once and the Sun Inn which is a must see, just like walking into someone's home! Great garage in the village which will keep you supplied with day to day items and there's Tuffins in Craven Arms which is the nearest supermarket. We didn't have a chance to use the log burner but it's a great feature. Our dog loved sleeping in the larder and was really at home. We ate in The Lion one night then fish and chips in the other pub for another and on the last night got to use the electric Aga which was simple to use for a novice like me and I found fab. Although Judi is an absent owner, she called me almost immediately after booking and was really friendly, making sure that I'd received all the details. She told me all about the area, the pubs and places to walk our dog. We had the pleasure of meeting her after we had checked out and returned to our car after having taken Monty for a walk in the meadow and she was lovely. The wifi was excellent, ours was a business stay so that was very appreciated but the cottage was very relaxing and we would definitely book again for a longer stay. Leintwardine was unknown to us before but proved an excellent base for visiting the area with a charming multi-arched bridge over the fast-flowing river Teme. Just 8 miles from Ludlow or Knighton. The adjacent garage and local shop is well stocked with a surprising array of staples and more. We didn't get a chance to visit the tea rooms or the excellent looking local butcher but we did go mad and have fish and chips from the smartest looking chippy I can recall seeing. Again we didn't visit the "famous" parlour pub - that will have to wait. All of these amenities are within a 2 minute walk of Fern House cottage which lies in an street running parallel to the main road through the village, so we were untroubled by any traffic noise. The local church is close and bell-ringing between 8-9pm cannot be "shut-out".

  • "Fern House was a lovely, comfortable cottage in a very friendly village."

The bed was comfy and the cottage had everything needed for a week away. The owner was also very attentive and we are very grateful for the goodies that were left for us. We had a great time walking in the local area and visiting the local pubs. The Lion for good food and scenic riverside benches, or The Sun beer garden, when warm. Also The Sun allows dogs inside which was great for us to take our whippet Gryff. The Fiddlers Elbow chippy is fantastic and you can order your fish and chips and eat them in The Sun beer garden or by the river on the green. Would definitely return for further walking and relaxing.

  • "Fern Cottage is a fantastic holiday let."

It is furnished to a high standard and maintains a warm, homely feel. Fresh flowers and a lovely hamper welcomed us with milk in the fridge ready for a cuppa! This is genuinely a dog friendly cotrage with towels and a bed provided and a stone tiled floor makes for an easy clean. Shared access through the neighbours rear garden is not a problem since they are friendly and like dogs! It is a pleasure to recommend this cottage and village.
