  • "Just what we wanted in a holiday, very peaceful in a very nice rural setting."

The cottage is immaculate, all the items which one has in ones own home are certainly duplicated here. The bed is very comfortable and guarantees a good night sleep; We found the lounge great to sit in, in the evenings and the kitchen very well kitted out. Getting to to the surrounding places Hythe, Dover etc, only a short drive away. Dover has an excellent range of shops for stocking up with food. We would certainly wish to book Sleepy Hollow again in the future. The owners go out of their way to make the visit a great success, thank you both.

Thank you for providing information about dog walks and the way to Lydden Bell Inn. If we ever come back to England we will try to book Sleepy Hollow again.

  • "Our second stay at Sleepy Hollow."

Everything is nicely laid out and clean. The bed is very comfortable and the linen nice and fresh including the fluffy towels. The kitchen is well equipped and plenty of cutlery and crockery and a very nice welcome hamper including eggs, bread, local drinks, local crisps and fresh milk. There is tea, coffee and sugar available too in the caddies. Nice touch having the coffee machine! Another nice touch is the hand written chalkboard welcoming you and in our case welcoming both of us and the dog back…loved that. The only down side for us was the gate…we weren’t able to shut it and so letting our dog out was always a worry as there are a number of dog walkers and horse riders. The drive is tight, but then we do have a big car and getting in at night was always a little un-nerving as no light at the side to aid reverse parking however, once you’d done it a few times it’s easier! A nice table and chairs to sit out at and enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside that surrounds Sleepy Hollow. Marcus and Anne are lovely and always pop over (once) to say hello and then leave you to enjoy your break but are always around in their separate property next door. Only other thing to mention for feedback is the shower. Although the shower is huge (and very clean) the water pressure is very low. None of our critique would be enough to deter a return visit by us as it is such a lovely place and is also convenient for us location and peaceful wise too! A couple of minor changes (aforementioned) would make this place 100% perfect. Thanks both and we look forward to seeing you again.

It only needs a small fence and gate at the edge of the patio to overcome this . The property itself is very warm comfortable and very well maintained .although normal TV channels were missed .

  • "Ideal location for a quiet peaceful stay within easy reach of historic England."

Isolated area, so transport is essential. Larger vehicles may be hard to park. Postcode is not recognized by the satnav. Directions on the Information Pack are the most reliable.on arrival, particularly if after sunset. The property can be challenging for senior visitors or those with mobility problems. The three-level stables conversion has two separate steps to descend from the single to the double bedroom area. (Possible trip hazard for the visually impaired. Very welcoming pack on arrival and the hosts were perfect.

  • "We had an absolutely fabulous stay."

The location was perfect, the hamper was a beautiful and personal touch which was very much appreciated. The lodge was spotless, comfortable and it was so nice to be able to bring our dog Dexter with us. The owners were also incredible helpful when we left something behind. We've already made plans to stay again, it's wonderful. The only slight concern was the driveway was very narrow, and we ended up scuffing our car, not that it was any fault of the owner or misinformation in the listing, but might be worth making that a little clearer for anyone driving something larger than 'average'.

  • "A lovely quiet location which is just what we needed."

We wanted to get away for the weekend, away from all the fireworks in London and this did the trick, apart from a few on the actual 5th November whereas at home we would have been suffering them all weekend. The property is lovely, very well equipped. Cosy and comfortable. Although along with the remoteness comes the issue of mobile signal and wi-fi dropping out occasionally but don't let that put you off this location. We weren't lucky with the weather but there is plenty of places to walk with your dog. And some great local pubs that have good food. For a quiet undisturbed getaway we would certainly recommend this property. The welcome pack was a lovely surprise and very much appreciated. Huge thanks to the owners for making us so welcome.

  • "We had a lovely stay and a well earned rest."

The property was comfortable and very clean, and set in a lovely quiet space. Just a couple of things to mention. 1. The gate is very difficult to shut, and we left the gate open in the end, which then didn't make it secure for our dog. The gate wouldn't close properly. 2. The TV isn't connected to the aerial, so we could only watch Catch up, but this wasn't a problem for us. Thankyou to the owners for coming to introduce yourselves and to check that everything was okay for us, especially on such a windy night. Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much and would highly recommend your accommodation. Thankyou.

  • "This was an excellent stay at Sleepy Hollow & Anne & Marcus were genial hosts."

There are no difficulties with the accommodation which was ample for the two of us and our dog & everywhere was neat & tidy and was left in the same condition. Not everything will suit all customers and the lack of WiFi + terrible TV signal may disappoint some. The second part of the name of the cottage gives it away though! Parking was a cause for concern on day 1 but, after that, I got the hang of bending the car onto that narrowest of roads. The mini hamper was a lovely touch & very welcome. The village of Lydden is 1.75 miles away and we rediscovered The Lydden Bell which is fabulous but you might need to book 24hrs in advance to bag a table. The food is delicious and the staff are also very engaging. So, as long as you are happy to catch up on the news by reading the newspaper next day and don’t want to be disturbed by telephone calls, this could well be the place for you to relax, with cows grazing in the adjacent field, walks aplenty from the door and dark, dark nights in a very comfortable bed. I recommend it unreservedly.

The only improvement we can suggest is a clearer instruction about where the key is located. Apart from that, the accommodation is first class, beautifully furnished & equipped. We really appreciated the welcoming hamper dish, as it showed that the owners were prepared to go the extra mile. Also, they couldn’t have been more helpful. We are very much looking forward to staying there again in the future.

Great place to stay for a week or more. We used it as a base to explore the area (Canterbury, Hythe, Whitstable). Very friendly owners who were on hand should we have needed anything. The terrace is nice and private. Extremely peaceful and quiet!! The cottage is on a single-track road, but we soon got used to that. The Lydden Bell pub just 5 mins down the road was our favourite place for an evening out - great food and very friendly staff.

Well equipped and what a lovely welcome basket! Very pleasant owners, too. Sadly, not for someone as disabled as me - but I should have checked that out first! Access to drive with a wide and long wheelbase vehicle is very difficult, not helped by curb stones and no visibility either way . Would suggest a mirror opposite drive? Also, cut back overgrown curbs. We have a new to us damaged car

Julie and Marcus were warm and welcoming, ( Marcus as you can see I didn't take the pillows). We slept really well, the bed was comfortable. About the location

DOVER

Whitfield 3.2 miles; Folkestone 7.9 miles; Canterbury 16.3 miles.

Sitting on the English Channel in Kent, South East England is the picturesque town and bustling ferry port of Dover. Dating back to the stone age and retaining a lot of its historic landmarks, whilst also enjoying the beauty of the South East coastline, it is unsurprising that Dover is a highly popular holiday destination. The town enjoys connections to France via its ferry port, however, Dover itself has plenty for visitors to rave about, including the fascinating Dover Museum & Bronze Age Boat Gallery, the breathtaking Dover Castle, the Western Heights of Dover with its marvellous fortifications, along with the famed Medieval Tunnels, to name a few. A walker's haven, Dover enjoys easy access to the winding trail along the dramatic White Cliffs of Dover, where the sights of the South Foreland Lighthouse, the Fan Bay Deep Shelter and St Margaret's Beach can be beheld, whilst also being within easy reach of the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where further excursions await. Dover is also home to a shingle beach that stretches along the strait, where visitors can soak up the impressive views of the coastal panorama on a stroll with a canine companion. Visitors can additionally tour the delightful Kearsney Abbey and Russell Gardens, before finishing the day off in one of Dover's fantastic eateries that line the harbour. For fun inland, guests can travel to Ashford, Maidstone or Canterbury, or they can check out the wonderful locations of Samphire Hoe, Folkestone, Margate and Ramsgate which can be found further along the coast.
