  • "The property is lovely and suited our needs very well."

We particularly liked the sunroom at the property, where we spent most of our time when indoors, but felt that the furniture could have been more comfortable. It was a pity that, with a dishwasher available, there were not more mugs supplied - only 3 large and 2 small for 4 people - and more teaspoons.

It is a home from home for us now, and Peter is an excellent host. Local pub The Herdwick has really good food at reasonable prices so well worth a visit or two. Hoping we have a bit better weather when we are back in September. Thanks again to Peter Mark, Theresa and Bonnie.

  • "Low Garth was everything and more that we were expecting."

It was a lovely quiet rural location, the cottage was comfy and welcoming. Having the sun room was a huge bonus and meant we could enjoy views of the garden and scenery even in the worst of the rain. It was a good location to travel from. Peter, the owner, was very helpful. The recently re-opened pub in walking distance did very good food.

Everything from start to finish was way above my expectations. I met with the owner who was wonderful. It was extremely clean and holds all the facilities that you could need along with the amazing coal fire. The main shopping centre is only a 10 minute drive away for anything you could need. I would definitely recommend Low Garth Cottage for a nice break in the lake district. By far the best and most outstanding. Thank you to the wonderful owners I will definitely be staying again.

  • "Had a lovely week (21/10-28/10/22)."

A great base for our family of 3 and the dog. Had a chat with the owner on arrival, who had agreed we could charge up our Electric Car and told us where we could park and what times (to avoid blocking anyone!) and he gave us some tips about where to go and eat out if we wanted to. The cottage is lovely and very quiet. Beautiful views in the area. Lots of lovely walks. Only downside was having to sleep on a small double bed (it’s tiny when you have a Super king size at home LOL!)

The house was well equipped, very clean and the garden is exceptional, a really peaceful haven. Pete was great, stopping for a chat when we saw him but not intrusive in any way, he gave us some great tips and we appreciated his relaxed approach.

Is there any reason now that holidays are Friday to Friday as this does not suit the working man as you have to book 6 days away from work.

  • "Cottage in great location, gardens lovely, lovely sunroom."

Beds very uncomfortable, all mattresses need upgrading. Water pressure in showers poor. Took forever to get shampoo out of hair! Disappointing that local pub, within walking distance, was closed. It was one of the reasons we booked the cottage. Should have stated in cottage details "currently closed".

Facilities for cooking are all there for any dish you want to cook. Takes a bit of practice to get the coal fire going but all good fun. Just a real shame about the weather but a much needed break so didn’t affect our stay Location is ideal for getting around and visiting the lakes.

It had every thing you could need. The views were lovely and we had beautiful peaceful surroundings. We met the host who was very helpful but we had total privacy. There was a lovely 5 minute walk to the local pub that served amazing food. We also found a couple of others close by. Easy to reach from the M6. I would definitely book again and highly recommend!

Great for access to the Northern Fells. The Herdwick Inn is good and a five minute walk. It would be useful to say where the parking is as you turn the corner to the cottage as it is easy to drive past it. Facilities were very good and there is a brilliant sun room. We never understood the standard central heating timings but the boost works well.

Well situated for northern lakes, Ullswater and Aira Falls (well worth a visit) only minutes away. Well equipped and spotless. Lovely to have two en-suites but note there is no downstairs toilet. Twin room is small but was ideal for two teenagers as was the Wi-fi which was very reliable! Although we had lots and lots of rain we had a wonderful week and would highly recommend Low Garth.

Friendly, helpful and made us really welcome. Unfortunately not for the first time Sykes have given us misrepresentation regards the property(we have this problem with you before).Your description states there is a shop within half a mile of the property,in fact the nearest shop is OVER 2 MILES AWAY!if you can find it.Due to late check in time(3.30pm) having to look for a shop is not the best start. The owners folder clearly informs you the nearest shop is in a different village so why do you advertise to the contrary. Please feel free to call me and discuss this.As i have said this is the second time we have been mislead by your advert.

  • "Low Garth is an extensive cottage in a quiet setting with plenty of room for a family of four, or visitors with dogs."

Access was via a short track with plenty of room for parking a short distance from the cottage. Although the cottage is adjoining the owners property they had a separate access and garden area so privacy was not a problem. We enjoyed our stay using the cottage as a base to explore the northern area of the Lake District for walks or visits to the many attractions nearby. The cottage is spacious and well fitted out with a delightful sunroom facing south-east at the back. We had two dogs with us and there was plenty of room to sit out on warm afternoons in the sunroom, planning our next walk, and also use it for a storage area for our walking gear and the towels needed for two dogs! Outside there is a large garden with room to exercise the dogs or sit out if the weather is suitable and also a decking area for relaxing in the sun.

About the location

PENRUDDOCK

Keswick 11 miles; Penrith 6 miles.

The charming old village of Penruddock sits in a secluded position in the northern Lake District between Keswick and Penrith, and just four miles from Ullswater. The village is spread out amongst beautiful rolling countryside and wonderful scenery and is made up of a number of farm dwellings, traditional Lakeland homes and two churches. Penruddock originated in Celtic times, with the name derived from Pen, a Celtic name for 'hill' and 'rhuddawc' meaning red in Welsh to reflect the reddish brown colour of the soil found in the area. Nearby, the popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the north of the Lake District and has plenty to offer, boasting numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, some good parks, the Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema and the beautiful lake. Penruddock provides easy access to the spectacular surrounding Cumbrian countryside which can be explored by both car and on foot, and with the southern Lakes, Eden Valley, Solway Coast and Hadrian's Wall all within easy motoring distance this great location has plenty to see and do for all the family.
