• "Lovely place for peace and quiet."

  Beautiful views and cosy and comfortable. Short walk to the shop inn, very friendly and a short drive to the Greyhound pub with a lovely welcome and roaring fire. Exactly what my husband and I needed.

• "The surprise about the location were the stunning views of the estuary and Lakeland fells especially from the upstairs sitting room."

  Just watching the changing light and shadows was magical. The large bed was very comfortable and the en-suite shower was easy to control. Lots of space in the kitchen diner with bonus of dishwasher and washing machine. Parking was right outside so unpacking was easy. The property is very quiet and easy access to coast and western area which is less crowded than central lakes. Roy welcomed us and helpfully was in contact when my husband left his reading glasses after our departure. Barbara

• "We had a fabulous holiday."

  The inside of the cottage was exactly as described on the website and the views from the upstairs lounge were amazing. The outside picture is a little misleading. When we needed any advice or suggestions Roy was very helpful. We would definitely return to the Lake District and to Ada's Cottage.

• "Ada's Cottage is a lovely place to stay."

  Outside there are beautiful views, along with decent space to park and somewhere to hang your washing if you're there for long enough. Inside there's a comfortable large bed with ensuite bathroom and shower, with a second bathroom at the other end of the property with a bath. Large kitchen, with all the amenities and large kitchen table. Plenty of fridge and freezer space, and a range of cookware. Upstairs is a lovely open lounge area, with comfortable chairs, tv, and more views across the local area. Lots of things to do locally in The Lakes, just over an hour's drive will get you all the way up to Keswick; with Kendal, Consiton, Windermere and others closer.

• "Spectacular views."

  Spacious, private and quiet. Friendly, helpful owner onsite, who provided extra glasses and sharp knives that were missing. Very effective shower and heating, Comfortable bed. Few improvements that could be made would be: wifi didn’t work in bedroom, TV could be bigger, bit more kitchen equipment, bigger and more absorbent towels would be nice. No DVD player. Our second year and looking forward to returning next year.

• "We had a very enjoyable stay at Ada's Cottage, which had the most amazing views."

  Even though easily accessible, you felt as if you were in the middle of the countryside. The upstairs lounge has wonderful views and is a bright airy room. The en-suite shower was amazing. We have never stayed in the South of Cumbria and explored new areas, there are plenty of places to visit without visiting the busy, touristy areas of the Lake District.

• "All was very clean and tidy."

  Location excellent. Walking good. A few suggestions maybe. The TV in the lounge was quite small and didn't receive many channels. A larger smart TV with internet access may be an idea. A clock especially in the kitchen would be useful. I eventually found the base for the kettle tucked away in a cupboard. A heated towel rail in the shower room would be useful as would some toilet brushes to clean the toilets with would be useful. These are just suggestions not complaints. Thank you for a pleasant stay

• "It was a lovely location with great views."

  The owner Roy was very friendly and helpful. There was plenty of space and we were comfy and warm. 1 or 2 things need updating. Easy for the coast and the lakes. Plenty to see here. We felt most welcome and loved the cottage. Roy even took me to his local fishing lake and I had a great day catching loads. Great stay Thanks Roy

• "Ada's Cottage is set in a small and quiet group of buildings, unseen from the property, between Grizebeck and Kirkby-in-Furness."

  The owner decided to place the lounge on the first floor, with the kitchen, bedroom with ensuite, and separate bathroom on the ground floor. And what a brilliant idea that was! The view over farmland, a river crossed by the local train line, Duddon Sands and Duddon Mosses Nature Reserve and finally the Cumbrian Hills, is almost impossible to look away from. Apart from the windows, the lounge also features the central cruck from the original construction and, by the way, for somewhere rural the internet connection is extremely good. This building has been finished to perfection. The kitchen, with a table and chairs suitable for the period, but all other amenities in tune with our modern era. The bathroom to the left of the kitchen is traditional (with bath) but the ensuite, which is through the bedroom to the right, features a modern shower. If cycling is your thing a small stone store has been equipped with a bike stand. A key for the padlocked door is provided. Also, the owner has left directions for a ride which, as much as possible, avoids busy roads. By now you may be getting an impression of the proprietor. If you think he's a charming, helpful man who likes everything to be just right - you're absolutely correct! You have no doubt noticed the miniature houses outside the cottage. I was going to ask about them but with all else it slipped my mind. Perhaps a later reviewer could remedy my error.

• "We had some difficulty finding the property but we hadn't read the instructions properly."

  We phoned Roy and he guided us successfully to the cottage. He was also very helpful during the stay. Ada's Cottage was a delight. The property was well equipped, extremely spacious, in a very quiet rural location with stunning views of the coast and the mountains. It has one of the best showers that I've ever experienced. The village has two pubs, the Ship and the Commercial. The Ship does a very nice Fish and Chips on a Friday evening for only £9 - really good value. Both pubs are about a 15 minute walk. The Greyhound Inn, which is a couple of miles along the A595, does a wonderful and inexpensive Sunday lunch - incredibly good value. There is no shop in the village but there is a coffee shop which was closed while we were there. We found two very good cafes, Platform One in Askam and the Bakehouse in Greenodd. They are both a 15 minute drive but they are excellent cafes and we can highly recommend both of them. There are some nice walks close to the property and there are loads of leaflets at the property displaying the local attractions. We had a day on Windermere which was great, as was the little train at Ravenglass. The Dock Museum in Barrow is worth a visit and it's free. There are also some nice coastal walks on Walney Island (a bridge connects it to Barrow) and the lovely Roundhead Hub and Cafe. Furness Abbey, nr Barrow is also well worth a visit. Virtually all the big supermarkets can be found in Barrow, as well as a number in Ulverston - which is a little nearer. It has a local supermarket called Booths which was excellent. One of the few that still has a fresh degli. We had extremely good weather while we were at the cottage which does make a difference. But had a weather not been so good there are still plenty of indoor attractions within a short drive. We loved our week at the cottage and I'm sure we'll be back. Thanks Roy.

• "This little cottage is in a lovely picturesque area."

  A quiet area where you can completely relax, unwind and enjoy the views . The owner was very helpful and friendly. We only had breakfast in the cottage due to visiting so many places and there are plenty places to see Holker Hall, Beatrix Potter Hill Top , Coniston Lake , Furness Abbey, Lakeland motor museum are just a few of the near by places we went to and cannot wait to go back to view more of the lakes . We will be booking again as soon as we can . Thank you letting us stay in your lovely cottage a beautiful peaceful place .

• "Property in need of some tlc."

  A number of minor issues, some of which were brought to the attention of the property owner. For example.....no bread knife. This was provided next day by the owner. The other issues need to be addressed at some time.....for example.....cancel button missing on toaster, meaning that if you wanted the toast to pop up you had to turn it off at the socket. Shame really as the property was in a lovely and quiet location.

• "We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Ada’s Cottage it ticked all our boxes so peaceful it was perfectly located for us to explorer the Southern Lake District."

  We kayaked on Coniston and Windermere, climbed Scafell Pike, Lingmel and Beacon Fell a lovely week. We met Roy on a couple of occasions very friendly to chat with he gave us some local info. We would recommend the Greyhound Inn a lovely village pub good prices, lovely food and ale. An enjoyable week

• "Ada's Cottage is set in a very convenient location to explore Furness and other parts of southern Cumbria and has stunning views The cottage was comfortable and very clean and the owners friendly on our brief encounters."

  The model cottages in the garden (and the larger model village in the area behind the cottage) are delightful and add an extra charm. Unfortuantely during our visit my partner had walking problems but otherwise it is only around a 15 minutes walk to wither of the local pubs - we did visit the Ship in the car and it was friendly but the large TV showing rugby detracted from the otherwise pleasant atmosphere. The facilities at the cottage are good and the two toilets / bathing rooms were much appreciated in the morning! We were unlucky with the weather and had some very wet days but watching the skies and the change in light from the cottage upstairs window made the rain more than bearable! The short track down to the cottage is narrow with only a couple of passing places but we were fortunate enough not to meet anyone coming bin the opposite direction. Our only real issue with the cottage was the lack of lighting over the worksurfaces in the kitchen which made preparing dinner in the evening a little difficult - the cooker hood light was also not working which compounded this but we reported this at the end of our stay. Overall a lovely place to stay and we would certainly consider returning here to further discover this beautiful and very interesting corner of the county

  We drove down the track and couldn't believe the fabulous views over the fells and estuary. The location was breath-taking. It was so peaceful and quiet. Roy was very welcoming. His model village was stunning and it all lit up at dusk.A great place to explore the Western peninsulas from. It was comfortably furnished and had enough table and kitchenware for two. We had fun as the deckel on the hob and oven had been cleaned out of existence.Would recommend this cottage to any couple wishing to get away from it all. Very relaxing.

  A friendly welcome by Roy, and because it was such a hot week, we were so grateful for the outside lounge chairs in particular. We didn't use the massive sitting room upstairs at all because of sitting outside so much, but that room was spectacular. Would love to revisit. MARG

• "We had a wonderful week at Ada's cottage, beautiful views from the picnic bench outside."

  The bed was very comfy, the shower was brilliant. Met Roy who was lovely. The only negative thing about the cottage was that it was looking slightly tired in some areas & maybe ditch the false flowers upstairs that looked liked they'd had their day & were very dusty, but it wouldn't put us off going back again. So much to do in the area with the cottage being near to the coast as well, too much to see/visit in just one week, we will definately come back to this area/cottage again. We parked free on the front at Walney Island & biked to South Walney Nature Reserve, free to Wildlife members but still worth paying to go round. Visited Coniston & walked up to Tarn Hows, a lot to do up there too. Roanshead is 100% worth a visit, beautiful beach you can walk for miles along. We can also recommend the King's Arms, Hawcoat, Barrow in Furness, great real ale pub, best we visited in the area.

• "A very comfortable cottage in a beautiful setting."

  Fantastic views towards the coast, quiet and secluded yet convenient for places of interest. Great having 2 bathrooms, 1 with bath, 1 with shower. Spotlessly clean.The owner very friendly, but never intrusive, and available if any problems, which there weren't. Only improvement would be that there were no instructions for the cooker, and the numbers on dials rubbed off, so couldn't tell which mode or temperature you were using, but we used the Internet to find instructions so no problem for us. We had a really lovely stay in this very beautiful area and have no hesitation in recommending . If going to this area we would definitely opt to stay there again.

• "What can I say Ada’s cottage was a perfect cottage for our week."

  The views are beautiful and watching the animals in the fields around so peaceful and relaxing , fantastic wildlife. Roy the owner was very friendly even leaving a lovely voicemail for our arrival home as traffic was mayhem. A perfect place to stay while you explore the Lake District. The bed was so comfortable and the shower was amazing. Would definitely book again if we venture to the lakes . We definitely saw all we could . We didn’t want to leave this beautiful cottage. A short walk down through the fields to the ship ( pub) where your find a friendly welcome . The weather was perfect too . Can’t wait to return one day .keep up the good work Roy and Jennifer.

• "Ada’s cottage is absolutely gorgeous place to stay."

  Amazing facilities (really comfy bed, big lounge area, place to sit outside, two bathrooms - one shower and one bath, so lots of options within the house) and the view was absolutely gorgeous, really easy to find, but private at the same time. Roy was extraordinarily lovely, really helpful and welcoming. Would 110% recommend! Definitely interested in going back as well, really close to so many locations aswell!

  Internally the cottage was comfortable and warm. All the facilities you could need. Plenty of seating upstairs extensive beautiful views from each window. Bedroom comfortable, shower excellent, nice touch of a t.v. would suggest a headboard on the bed would make watching it more comfortable. Out side appreciated the lovely spring flowers and the miniature stone houses that lit up at night, a nice surprise. Would certainly return here.
