  • "Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Lane End."

The views of the surrounding hills, fields and sunrise were a joy. Mary’s instructions on how to get to the cottage were very accurate and I appreciated the contact and information provided. The cottage had all the amenities that I needed to make it a home from home and the cottage was very easy to heat and stayed warm as required. The bedroom is very spacious with a comfortable area to sit and admire the countryside views whilst reading and having a cuppa as I did. There is also a seating area directly outside the cottage and another across the driveway that would make a lovely area to sit out with a glass of wine. The cottage is ideally situated to visit Cartmel Village but is also in close proximity to Blackwell, Windermere, Holker Hall, Sizergh, Fell Foot, Ulverston, Leven Hall and Grange Over Sands. I would not hesitate to recommend this cottage.

From our elevated position..Great location for Cartmel and 8 minutes drive to Grange over Sands. Visit Higginson Butchers and Greengrocer next to the Coop. • "Mary and Bertie were very nice hosts for our week."

The cottage is just as the listing describes. It sits a little bit out of the village of Cartmel, so is a little bit of a walk into the village, but not undoable. The lanes to the cottage are narrow, but we never had any issues and there are plenty of passing places. The cottage itself is lovely. Everything is there you could need, and even some little extra touches you wouldn't normally get (I'll not say what, it would spoil it). The kitchen is a good size and very well equipped, the lounge is comfortable and functional. Upstairs is really big with plenty of space. I know it's a 2 person cottage, but you could easily fit a fold out bed in as well and still have loads of room. The bed is lovely and comfy. One tip, if you're not an early bird close the blinds at night or you'll be woken by the sunlight streaming in at 5 in the morning. Bathroom is a good size too. The shower isn't high pressure, but does the job and has lots of room. We stay somewhere different each time we visit The Lakes, but would definitely come back here.

This is a little misleading as the road to the village is very narrow and not really walkable as this I feel could be quite dangerous. The cottage however sits in a very quiet and picturesque location

My house and cottage sit at the top of a narrow single track private lane which serves only this property and one other at the bottom where it is much wider - the only other traffic are the postman and bin collection, so it is really quite safe. From the lane the road to the village is narrow in parts as are most other roads around Cartmel, it being the countryside, but this road is very quiet and most of my guests regularly walk down to the village as do most of us locals and we have never had any problems. • "The cottage is tucked away in a beautiful, rural location approx 2 miles from Cartmel."

It is so peaceful; only the sound of birds, insects, cows, horses and chickens can be heard. Lane Head has been carefully planned with every necessity thought of and furnished to a very high standard. Amazing views from the from the bedroom and balcony. Mary was a super host - welcoming, yet not intrusive, and thoughtful with little treats throughout our stay and recommendations for eateries, walks, etc. We will definitely return. When we left, it felt as if we’d made new friends in Mary and Lane Head - a truly delightful place to relax and unwind.

  • "The cottage was just perfect for two people and a dog."

Mary ,the owner of the cottage showed us around the cottage, explaining how to use the facilities which was very helpful ( sometimes you are ready for coming home before you have learned to master a complicated microwave!!) She was most welcoming and made us feel very much at ease with our little Jack Russell. We have never been in a cleaner cottage or in prettier surroundings and will be returning in the very near qfuture.

She welcomed us with open arms and we left feeling like we said farewell to a dear friend. The photographs do not do the cottage any justice at all as the interior is much higher spec than expected. Lane Head is a true gem in the most picturesque countryside.
