  • "We stayed for 18 nights late July 24 pending completion of our house sale, the Bothy was perfect for us."

The facilities are exactly as shown. For two people the space was good and the cottage had everything necessary. It was quiet, the garden & outside sitting area lovely. The owner is friendly & helpful. Well situated to get into Sedbergh with all its amazing shops & pubs. Try Sedbergh golf course for a meal - fabulous. And so many walks and places to visit. Don't hesitate to book we really enjoyed our stay.

  • "A beautiful location, and a comfortable, cosy cottage."

Though small, 'The Bothy' has everything one needs for a rural retreat. There really are walks from the door almost. The Bothy lies in a peaceful , lovely garden, away from the road, with a superb view of the hills rising above the picturesque garden. The owner made us very welcome, and was so kind, friendly and patient. When we had a couple of hitches, he was there straight away to sort them out. We will definitely be returning when we can.

  • "Alot of traffic noise that seemed to go almost non stop from early morning to late in the evening."

This combined with noise from the school, delivery trucks and lawnmowers mostly, it wasn't exactly a quiet rural retreat. However, I think if you lived in a city then perhaps it would be a peaceful place to stay. Otherwise I enjoyed the beautiful view of the Howgill fells and owner's garden.

The Bothy is very clean and comfortable and contains everything needed to make it a pleasant stay. Very quiet with a tranquil and pretty garden and lovely views. Easy walking distance to the town with lots of local walks in and around Sedbergh. Ideally situated to visit many other places by car.

Superb accommodation ,top fixtures and fittings. We were made very welcome by Kate and David. Well located approximately half way between Hawes and Kendal with easy access to the Lake District. , Dent is worth a visit as is Farfield Mill. Super views of the Fells. Amazingly good Fish and Chips at the Haddock Paddock in Sedbergh A. Very relaxing break without the crowded accommodation in the Lake District. Thank you Davidand Kate.,

  • "Our first holiday in 3 years and we were in real need of rest and recuperation from our busy domestic life, this cottage gave us it in spades!"

It is tucked away in their large and beautiful gardens, where we had only birds for company. The cottage is the smallest we have ever booked and we were concerned but we had nothing to worry about, there has been a lot of thought put into it and the design, quality of the fittings and fixtures is very good. The thick walls made it snug and warm, especially as the week was littered with showers. We have stayed in countless cottages here and abroad and they were the best hosts we have encountered, they replaced an appliance which went off with their own and had a replacement the following day. It helped that they were on hand and not at the end of a phone many miles away. Kate gave us a tour of the gardens (we love gardens) and David kindly supplied us with some plants when we left. The cottage is a very short walk from the village? centre where there are ample places to eat and there are walks from the cottage to the Howgills, Dentdale, Dales Way and along the river Rawthay. The area itself is a hidden gem and Kirkby Lonsdale and Dent nearby are worth a visit. Looking forward to a return hopefully.

  • "We had a lovely stay helped by good weather ."

David and Kate are lovely, helpful hosts. The Bothy is small but well equipped and maintained. There are many walks straight out of the front door, lovely chippy and we spent many a pleasant hour in the local pubs. Easily reached off the M6 so we also popped over to the other side of the Lakes, in Grizedale in an hour. We would go back.

  • "The Bothy was like a hideaway - very discrete despite being in the owner’s garden."

We enjoyed the peace and quiet and loved waking up to changing view’s of the fell as the weather varied. For those who don’t do Nespresso, there is a cafetière. There are several short walks accessible from the Bothy, as well as plenty for the more serious walker. Sedbergh itself has all you need. We enjoyed the outdoor barbecue at The Bull, fish and chips from the chip shop, and ice cream from the sweet shop.

  • "We had a great week at The Bothy while waiting to move into our new home in the Lake District."

For us it was not a holiday as such but rather a base to rest and work from for the week. We were made to feel right at home. The gardens are so peaceful and we enjoyed some short walks around the town. Plenty of restaurants and options for dining out in walking distance was also convenient. Thanks for the very kind hospitality.

We were very lucky with such good weather. Enjoyed sitting in our private area of the garden late afternoon after returning from our day out. Wonderful view from the Bothy. Didn't need to go far for interesting walks & fantastic scenery. Enjoyed a couple of good meals at the Dalesman a short walk away. Returned home feeling very relaxed hope we can return there another time.

  • "Sykes Cottages need to publish reviews of individual properties like just about every other website/agency out there."

Regarding this property, a minor issue is the lack of a blind in the front room; given that the property is in the garden of the owner (misleadingly called they grounds’ in the listing), I’m sure many prospective renters would appreciate a little more privacy.

About the location

SEDBERGH

Kendal 11.5 miles; Kirkby Lonsdale 11.8 miles, Hawes 15.8 miles.

Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber), set at the foot of the dramatic and wild Howgill Fells, is an ancient market town in northern Dentdale. Sedbergh is situated just inside the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is only 12 miles from the Lake District National Park. The town, with its narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs, famous school dating back to 1525 and its 12th century church, has an olde worlde atmosphere. Leading from Sedbergh is Dentdale, the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales with its rolling hills and dry stone walls, stretching 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the confluence of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the centre of the dale is Dent, with its cobbled streets, which has existed since Norman times and nearby Dent railway station is on the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, and fishing, and the area is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, runners and cyclists. This, together with the tranquillity of the surrounding valleys, the two National Parks and it being England's book town, makes an ideal year-round holiday destination.
