  • "Linden Lea is a lovely little cottage with lots of beautiful countryside within a short drive."

The cottage had everything we needed for a relaxing week and our dogs enjoyed the garden. The neighbours were very friendly and we had no problem parking on the main street.

Although small everything just seemed to “work “ Must remark on exceptionally comfortable bed, never slept as well whilst away! Parked very easily directly in front and the neighbours were charming. Great walks and tons of places to visit nearby. Enjoyed the castle and church just ten minutes walk away. And a waterfall just across the road. All round a great visit,

Thank you. The only thing I would say, is that the pubs have closed down and there is only a hotel bar or a small coffee shop/bar and neither of them are dog friendly which can be very important for people on holiday with their dog.

  • "Although a well kept cottage, we found it to be a little on the small side."

It was also the first cottage of many we have stayed in without a welcome hamper, so it was lucky there was a local shop near by, but was frustrating after a long journey in the car with two small children to then have the need to go to a shop. There was no parking near by, in-fact we were rudely told to move our car by one of the residents on arrival, and had to park 200 yards also on a busy road. There was limited stuff to do in the area and we had to travel a lot. There was one pub available although more of a hotel than a pub and prices reflected that. The shower had very little water pressure. Couldn’t cook on the hob as the smoke alarm kept going off. The TV is very small a seemed damaged, which was stated in the guest book some time ago. I would say it’s more of a couples cottage than a family, especially if your children are young.

  • "This is third year staying here and it really is a lovely little cottage in a fab village, so I don’t want my review to put anyone off but I would like the owner to see the comments to be able to rectify issues."

The cottage has everything you could possibly need for your stay and is so cosy, location is great too with a shop just across the road and walks from the doorstep. The neighbours on the end are very friendly too. However, as this is the third year going I think we have noticed a few things this time round. There were two glasses which were cracked across the handle and bottom, should really have been picked up by cleaners. The tv has marks within the screen which looks like hand prints but does affect the picture, the Wii doesn’t work after a few minutes of playing. The mold in the bathroom around the sealant and bottom of the shower screen really does need replacing and the shower head itself needs to be replaced as it slides down when in use. The mold around the window in the little bedroom needs to be looked at. Overall just a little tired and could be 10 times better with a freshen up. The biggest issue we had was the log burner, having one ourselves we know how to use it. But this one appears to not have any air flow which I think is caused by needing to be swept through. The smoke would fill the room on opening the door which is not safe at all. As I have mentioned I really don’t want my review to deter anyone from going as we had a great Christmas away and it’s a fab cottage but the owner really needs to be made aware of these issues.

The garden was secure snd great for the dog, only disappointment was the garden was neglected and not as on description. All shrubs were neglected and plants in pots were dead, weeds all around and lawn not mowed. It didn’t spoil our holiday but would have been nice if garden was a bit more pleasant. . Plus there are leaflets at the property to help you plan walks, days out. We found the local newsletter very good for info on numerous walks, we also used some of the other leaflet info in the cottage. It is very well equipped in the kitchen, and living spaces and bedrooms are very pretty and homely and in theme with the cottage, lots of storage too. We were two adults with 2 collie dogs and the garden space was pretty and adequate for our two doggies as we were out on walks most of the day. It would have been a bit nicer if the grass had been cut and the flowers in the garden tended to (as we had been asked to pick the dog poop up from the garden which was no problem, we would always do this anyway, just makes it a bit harder when the grass is long !) Patio area from the living room is lovely though, very cute porch area, loved all the nik naks dotted around.. Just outside on the main road are two pubs and a chip shop, unfortunately these were all closed on our arrival due to holidays being taken, apart from one pub which was open just at the weekend. This didn't deter us though as we were out doing long walks, visited High Force, Low Force, Penrith, Kirkby Stephen (doing numerous walks around here) Pooley Bridge at Ullswater was stunning and fab for our doggies, just a few of the numerous walks we did, Brough Castle worth visiting too. All in all a lovely cottage (which we had no problem finding) in a great area for access to Lakes, Yorkshire Dales and also County Durham, super clean and thank you for the lovely welcome treats and bottle of wine and 2 doggy bowls !

Loads of storage space, beautiful bedrooms and living room. I really cannot fault this cottage. It is warm and homely. The garden is lovely with French doors leading onto a small patio and decking area. As for clean, it is immaculate! There are loads of little trinkets and everything had a place. You had a good selection of DVD's, books and there is even a Wi games console with everything that you needs to keep you entertained. We did not use this or the DVD's we were out a lot exploring the area! Just outside on the main road are two pubs and a local shop (very reasonably priced), everyone is friendly, oh and the local Chippy just around the corner is excellent. Arrived to find only able to park across the road so quite a trek to carry cases etc to the cottage, the passage is full of wood and other stuff so need a torch in the evening, however biggest problem is the dog to the right as you enter flys at it’s gate and the fence is so low when the dog that lives down the bottom is out it snaps over the fence at you, so the cottage is great accommodation clean and has everything you need for a break but not suitable for medium/large dogs

Your cottage was beautiful and very well equipped and we had a lovely stay. The communication was excellent leading up to our arrival with a very well detailed email about places to visit-very handy. Linden Lea was the perfect location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales and Cumbria in Autumn. The cottage had lots of lovely walks straight from the garden. We can also recommend Lowther Castle and Raby Castle and deer park for visiting and enjoying the countryside as well as the viaduct walk in Kirby Stephen. The Outfitters cafe served fantastic food and the coffee was exceptional. We didn’t eat at the Inn hotel but had a drink on the first night. The barman at the Fleece couldn’t be more accommodating of us with our dog and baby. The dog even got a complimentary sausage! (Note no real ales in either pub if you are a fan like my husband) The cottage is so well equipped that given the time of year it was lovely to get back, light the wood burner and cook a meal. The White Hare cafe in Kirby Stephen sells very reasonably priced food and the owners are lovely. They couldn’t do enough for us, our baby and dog. Farfield Mill in Sedbergh is well worth a visit and the shop has lots of lovely hand made gifts. We unfortunately didn’t meet Bonnie the Labrador next door (time of year, you see limited people) but we did meet Toby the Labradors dad. The neighbours are so friendly. Thank you for a lovely stay.

The main feature is the beautiful view of the garden from the sitting room . The garden is delightful but sadly really not private . Although it has an enclosed garden it is only enclosed to hip height . If you have a large breed dog and it likes to jump it's really not enclosed at all . Basically whenever you want chill space outside people can see you . From the photos you would assume that wouldn't be the case . The neighbors are nice but again as they live their lives they are very much part of yours . The bed was amazing . House beautifully clean . It is however very very dark in all rooms except the sitting room which has the patio doors . Market Brough is pretty and there are lots of walks from the doorstep. I would suggest a bigger saucepan and a wooden spoon added to the kitchen . Thank you

The cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay with a young child and a dog. I am sorry to read your review from your stay as it provides different feedback from the positive feedback we normally receive but we always take all comments on board. In this case you did arrive well before the check in time, we both discussed this at the time, and the cleaners were late due to being short staffed on the day due to COVID self isolation which you later appreciated. Your comments contradict your satisfaction in the cleaning provided when I checked up with you the day after arrival. About the location

BROUGH

Kirkby Stephen 4 miles; Appleby-in-Westmorland 8 miles.

Brough is a small town located in the Eden Valley, at the foot of the North Pennines, just four miles north of Kirkby Stephen and eight miles east of Appleby-in-Westmorland. It is a twin village, the southern part, Church Brough, lies on a former Roman road and was the setting for the Norman Brough Castle (once the site of a Roman camp), while the northern area, Market Brough, is sited on a medieval road. The difference in the two villages relates to the functions they once served; Church Brough’s houses stand around a market square decorated with a maypole, while Market Brough boasts a wide and long main street. The village’s claim to fame lies in its 18th-19th century importance as a coaching town for the England-Scotland run, where more than 10 inns catered to the stagecoach trade. A beautiful sleepy backwater, it is surrounded by traditional farm meadows and picturesque pastures and fells. Nearby, the traditional market town of Kirkby Stephen, once home to cotton mills and a large manufacturer of shoes and woollen hats, today hosts a variety of shops, cafés, restaurants and pubs for every taste and budget. Enjoy many excellent walks and cycle routes nearby; explore Penrith, Appleby and the magnificent Howgill Fells, enjoy a drink in Tan Hill, England's highest pub, or take a ride on the Settle-Carlisle railway. A superb location, with the whole of the mystical Lake District National Park and the stunning Yorkshire Dales at your fingertips.
