  • "We had a lovely stay at Huntingstile Lodge, with great walks from the door and a lovely comfortable house to come back to."

One thing we really thought should have been in the details, as it made a surprising positive difference for our stay, was that the top floor WC does have a little shower tucked in, meaning there are 3 bathrooms in all - a big win with a houseful! The dishwasher played up and the fridge door was missing 4 out of 5 shelves but having reported these issues they hopefully won’t be a problem for future visitors to this lovely house. A couple of possible points for improvements are that given the general high levels of maintenance, we were surprised to find that in the master bedroom - huge, with a great bathroom, and such views! - the chaise longue and easy chair are in desperate need of reupholstering. Plus a couple more easy chairs in the living areas would add a bit of extra homeyness and comfort to really make the house tip-top. Finally, a point for Sykes is that I’d agree with the previous reviewer that a spare toilet roll in each bathroom and some kitchen roll in the kitchen are really the norm (and a neat little box with Nescafé sachets isn’t really a welcome hamper) - especially when paying £3k for the week’s stay.

  • "Beautiful house with great views and plenty of space for sitting/lounging that suited our family gathering very well."

Great walking on the doorstep and easy access to Grasmere village. Another twin room rather than four doubles would probably suit gatherings like ours better, but we coped. Would be great if there was a barbecue, though

  • "Huntingstile Lodge definitely has the WOW factor."

This special house was to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary (we honeymooned in Grasmere). The photos do not do the house full justice. Spectacular views from nearly every window (esp the master bedroom). Comfort and space for our 3 generations of family. Would love to return but booking dates have changed from Fri to Sat start which does not work for us. Pity!

  • "What a lovely cottage; great location only a short walk from Grasmere village & just across the road from the lake."

Downstairs rooms were great - 2 large lounges, good size dining table, well equipped kitchen with plenty of pots, pans etc. Upstairs, would have preferred more twin beds rather than doubles, would have suited our family group better. Weather not great so couldn't enjoy the outside seating areas much. Thanks for all the books & maps which helped with walk planning.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Huntingstile lodge."

It is a large house with spectacular views and an easy walk into Grasmere. The garden was lovely in the late spring and the bedrooms were comfortable. The master bedroom has a stunning view and is a super room. The seating areas downstairs also have good views and were spacious and comfortable. The kitchen, whilst very well stocked with crockery and cooking items, is small for the size of the house and the fridge is a bit small if you want to cook for a large group over a whole week. Not much that the owner can do about the size of the kitchen but another fridge somewhere would be really useful. The few niggles we had were mostly in relation to cleaning products, such as, not nearly enough dishwasher tablets, the washing up liquid was in a bottle so small that we did not even spot it until we were leaving, no kitchen roll, one roll of toilet paper in each toilet. It seems a bit mean to limit these items which in total would cost less than £10 to provide in a generous quantity. I am not sure if the cottage is run by a company as there were no personal touches but I guess that was okay. Lucky the weather was good as when we tried the television on the last night we could not work out how to turn it on. There were no instructions to help us. Despite these niggles I would definitely stay here again.

Thank you for your kind comments. We are so pleased to hear that you had lovely stay, and enjoyed the views! We take all comments on board. As the property is self catering, items such as washing up liquid and toilet paper is meant as a starter. We hope to welcome you again. The Heart of the Lakes Owner Relations Team Property Owner

Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District.
