I really wanted to love this property but didn’t because of niggles. The bathrooms need some TLC and the main bedroom downstairs smelt musty. I reported some issues to the owner who responded and was appreciative. The welcome treats were a nice touch.

  • "We stay as a family of 5 and two dogs at orchard cottage between 4th and 9th of August."

We had a brilliant time in a wonderful cottage. The cottage is in perfect place to stay, close to most places for days out and there is a pub just next door, that serves great food. The cottage was lovely inside and would definitely stay again. There is also a little outdoor area for the dogs to wander around and seating for families. We have been on lots of walks in the area and had lots of laughter. If you would like to stay in a place that feels like home away from home then this is the cottage for you.

  • "Such a lovely little cottage, ideal for either families, couples or, in our case, three women of "a certain age" with our dogs."

Louise the owner had left us a loaf, eggs, milk, delicious cookies and a bottle of wine. Everything you will need is in the drawers and cupboards so, no need to take anything with you. The only problem we had was we didn't realise that the thermostat for the radiators was upstairs in the corner of the sitting room whereas all other controls were in the kitchen but, a quick phone call to Louise soon sorted that out. The pub next door serves delicious meals but, best to book as it's very deservedly popular. Also, keep a close eye on your dogs when you're with them in the yard; ours soon discovered that, if they went up the steps and behind the carport, they could escape; plus my dog was able to just step through the gates even when they were closed. All of us had a lovely weekend here and hope to return again before too long. Thank you for a wonderful stay Louise

  • "The cottage was amazing."

Just the right size for a group of five people. The front room with a log burner was just lovely to sit in in the evening. The kitchen table was great to sit around for breakfast in the morning and playing some games. It had everything we needed and more. It was really clean. It was a really lovely touch to have some bread, milk, eggs, wine and logs there for us. The location is beautiful. We loved that we could walk our little dog in the morning over the fields nearby. It’s not far to Brontë country. You can visit the parsonage where the Brontë sisters lived and the church their father was parson at nearby. This was the high light for me. We drove through the Misty moors to get to it. The Hare and Hound local pub which is a short walk from the cottage was a lovely place to go for drinks and food. The staff were so friendly. We had a great stay and will definitely love to come back in the future.

Very well equipped, spacious yet cosy and comfortable. Loved the extra touches such as the handmade cookies and super welcome basket and the polaroid photos. Only small piece of constructive feedback is the towel provided was very small and only 1 each which meant I needed to wash them a few times in the week. I was thankful for the washing machine.

  • "Orchard Cottage is set in the lovely quiet village of Lothersdale."

It was spotless and welcomed us warmly on a chilly November evening. We were greeted with a lovely welcome pack, eggs, wine, bread, milk etc, a very kind thought. There were only three of us sharing, with a potential for 6 guests. The twin room upstairs with convenient, fully featured bathroom was ideal for my elderly father in law, and adjacent to the upstairs lounge. The locals were so welcoming and enjoyed a chat. The nearby Hare and Hounds was ideal, quiet weekdays, busy weekends, with excellent food and banter. Owner Louise responded quickly to all our queries. The location is a good base for lots of attractions and countryside. The cottage had plenty of space. My only suggestion is that the downstairs en suite would benefit from a couple of simple (floating) shelves above the loo as there is nowhere to store toiletries when showering/shaving etc. Thoroughly enjoyed our break.

The cottage is definitely one of the larger and more comfortable ones that we have stayed in and I would recommend it if you are looking for a 3-bedroom cottage. The Hare and Hounds pub, which is very close to the cottage does excellent food and there are some sive walks around the village.

Whilst near to the pub, there are no issues with noise. We found loads to see and do all within a reasonable drive of the village (Skipton 4 miles away) – seem to specialise in lovely bakeries and cafes in this area! The cottage is absolutely fine; we appreciated arriving to find fresh milk, home baked bread and banana cake, and a bottle of wine. Having downstairs bedrooms in the heat is so nice.

  • "Sadly it wasn't as clean as we would expect, the fridge hadn't been cleaned and had crumbs on the shelves, the freezer had previous occupants left overs still in it so limited space, the toilet seats are badly marked and need replacing and there were an excessive amount of spiders and cobwebs which had clearly been overlooked and some cobwebs had obviously been there a while."

Also, I had to chase up my bond, I do feel this should be refunded straight away without having to ask for it and without a delay.

We stayed over Christmas and the owners had put out a Christmas tree and kindly left a bottle of wine, chocolates & fresh bread. Spacious accommodation and light & bright. There had been a problem with the dishwasher and the owners responded immediately and sent out a plumber to resolve it on Christmas Eve which was very much appreciated. The only note would say is if you have a small dog they may be able to squeeze in between the railings in front gate but that was because out cockerpoo saw another pooch and squeezed through. To summarise a lovely cottage, in a lovely village run by a lovely owner.

It is damp and smells. I had to wash all the towels and febreeze the beds. My sons pillow was disgusting had a huge dirty stain. The bathrooms are so old and tired. My friends stayed at a house across the road which was immaculate and half the price. I didn’t complain until I got home as 1, we would of needed to move out to make the house up to standard and 2, didn’t want the hassle when it was our one family holiday this year and we were trying to catch up with family and friends that we haven’t seen for 2 years. I’m highly disappointed and would not recommend this Cottage.

Downstairs has a slightly musty smell but that is to be expected from a stone cottage (& it rains in Yorkshire!). Some other reviews have commented on lack of cleanliness but we found it to be very clean so ignore them! Spacious and nicely furnished situated in a beautiful village with lovely walks. We requested extra bed linen when we arrived (as we had an extra person with us on top of our booking) which the owner delivered within half an hour. We had a problem with hot water which was also dealt with immediately so cannot fault her attentiveness. Would recommend.

About the location

LOTHERSDALE

Cowling 3 miles; Skipton 5 miles.

The charming village of Lothersdale nestles in a peaceful valley in the Pennine Hills, just five miles from the market town of Skipton. It was, at one time, home to Charlotte Bronte who modelled Gateshead Hall in Jane Eyre on Stone Gappe House where she was governess. Today many visitors passing through the village are walkers, on their way along the Pennine Way on the stretch from Cowling to Gargrave. There is a village pub which serves food and an excellent range of amenities are available in Skipton just a short drive away. Also close by is Haworth, and the Bronte’s home, as well as the famous Worth Valley Steam Railway.

This property offers the following short breaks:
