  • "Lovely cottage - very comfortable and clean."

The only thing I would say is that when advertised, it doesn't point out how close the owners' home is - when you step out of the property, their kitchen window is right in front of you, which meant we felt a bit overlooked and didn't get that feeling of privacy everyone craves when staying in a cottage. Apart from this aspect, it was lovely.

It was so comfy had a great weeks sleep. The kitchen was well equipped, a little welcome pack to make a hot drink on arrival after a long journey would be a nice touch. Unfortunately the gift box left on arrival was out of date when we opened it.

Enjoyed every minute of it. If you’re looking for a short countryside break away from all the hustle and bustle, then this is the place to explore. Also bumped into owner nearby and had a friendly chat, seemed lovely!

poorly signed out side ,sat nav unavailable,no sign, found it in a small out building later. not everyone comes hear in a car so it would be a good idea to have some milk available either in fridge or them small pots arrived late and not a shop close by. hate to be negative but above would improve stay and experience.

  • "This was our first time at Tipsy Gin Cottage."

Having stayed at a number of self catering cottages in The Lakes before, we feel confident in saying that TGC is so far the best. The cottage is beautifully designed for a couple and has the highest quality finish throughout the property. It is also in a wonderful location if you value peace and quiet whilst a reasonably car journey from main town centres such as Kendal, Ambleside and Cartmel. The cottage is also ideally located for walks, short, long, challenging or relaxing. If you're lucky the David and Sarah's dog, Ollie, will take you on a walk across the fells as he did us on our first day here. If, like us, you are "foodies" there are plethora of excellent gastro pubs and restersunts near by. We'd strongly recommend The Punch Bowl and The Ploughman. All in all, we had a fantastic and restful week and can't wait to come back again to continue our foodie adventures.

Couldnt fault a single thing. Host were so friendly, lovely people. The views when you open the blinds on a morning are to die for. Peace and tranquility with everything you need. The pub is not walking distance if you have any limits on your walking capabilities but to be honest we ordered a taxi and went into kendal and it was a great night with the added bonus of a spoon

A log burner was a must for us do this was disappointing. - sofa uncomfortable and sagging towards the centre. Creaking like it was ready to break on the right side as you look at it. Others - very small parking space and no information about alternative spaces - no instruction for recycling bins - bedroom window latch hanging off. I repaired it myself before departure so the owner didn't think we'd caused it.

Really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful location and enjoyed and appreciated the 'welcome pack'. There was no mobile signal to contact anybody but fortunately owner turned up shortly after. Lack of storage space for groceries and a few basics missing e.g. foil and bread bin. Unfortunately we had to leave a day early. The only contact number given was for Lakelovers who didn't seem interested in being informed.

  • "We had a great stay at Tipsy Gin."

The cottage was warm and had all the necessary requirements for a week stay. Located just off a main road, noise wasn’t an issue but some caution was needed when walking along it to access hiking routes or going to the Punchbowl at Crosthwaite. Although not advertised, there is an area next to the bins where a bike can be securely stored if you are considering doing some cycling in the Lyth valley.. In the local area there are some excellent walks, some are detailed in the information folder in the cottage, and there are ample gastro pubs to meet your dining needs. This was our first time in the South Lakes area, usually choosing to stay further North, but we would recommend this cottage to all visitors to the Lake District.

Thank you for your comments. We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We hope to welcome you back Property Owner

From the second we turned the key in the door, we felt relaxed and comfortable. Properties like this don't happen by accident and it is clear the owners put a lot of effort into thinking what their guests need and subsequently maintaining it to spotless standards. Very pretty area with good walking from the door, plenty of places to eat and drink and still within a short driving distance to the big mountains and other Lake District attractions.

The directions could be improved, we drove past first time. It could say "Turn left at "Damson Bank". Advice given on parking most helpful and essential. The dying fir tree blocked the lovely view from the kitchen window and its removal would be an improvement. The water pressure could be lowered and the temperature of the hot water reduced - it was scalding. We couldn't see how to turn off the mirror light in the bathroom - only thinking of saving costs for the owner for the last 2 items. All in all would thoroughly recommend. Thank you.

2 minor points, I dropped something behind the bedside table and pulled it out to recover the item, I am not sure it has been cleaned behind the bed and side cabinets for some time! The bathroom sink drains extremely slowly, would suggest it is blocked. Other than that, a great place.

We didn't meet the owners but we had a lovely welcome box with local produce, the Damson & Apple Jam was especially tasty! Practical & well laid out kitchen, great living room with plenty of space & beautiful views over the valley. Appreciate the bathroom is compact but it was very clean. The shower door doesn't open properly due to the position next to the loo, so can be a bit of a squeeze. The Bed was so comfortable & huge! We slept really well, would love to know the model! Really accessible location to all the Lakes, less than 20 mins to Kendal (Huge Asda with great fuel prices and a B&Q next to it which is great on price for additional Kindling & Wood for the Fire) /Bowness/Windermere/Cartmel & the M6. Highly recommend walks around the Sizergh Castle estate if the weather is too bad for Fell walks/trails closed. The Punch Bowl is fantastic for dinner & only 5 mins drive over the Valley which is handy as the local Lyth Valley pub is now a B&B.

The property

Damsons grow in numerous orchards right across the Lyth Valley and have for generations been used to make damson gin - hence the name Tipsy Gin Cottage.

The mother of the current owners was one such distiller, who each autumn used a special family recipe to make the rather potent spirit.

Today, Tipsy Gin Cottage is a luxurious cottage with bags of character and charm and that is a popular retreat for couples wanting to soak up the beautiful countryside that surrounds it.

Inside there is cosy living space, a farmhouse kitchen, a smart bathroom and a sumptuous king size bedroom - the perfect place to kick back and relax. Situated alongside a traditional whitewashed farmhouse in the Lyth Valley, now included on the Lonely Planet’ Beautiful World List list of “most beautiful places on earth”, Tipsy Gin Cottage is around 20 minutes away from Lake Windermere and Bowness and a similar distance from the village of Cartmel, a foodie heaven, home to the famous Sticky Toffee Pudding and the acclaimed and Michelin award winning restaurant L’Enclume named as Britain’s Best Restaurant four years in a row. More great news, The Punch Bowl at Crosthwaite, The Bowland Bridge and The Masons Arms are all a few minutes drive away or less than an hours walk
