  • "Lovely positioned lodge."

Very well appointed with everything you need. We had a lovely stay, Yes, a few minor refreshes needed, like in the bathrooms, however this does not detract from the comfort of the lodge. Lovely to be able to do so many nice walks from the property and a short walk into Hawkhead. As others have said, one improvement would be the size of the bed in the master bedroom.

  • "I love going on holiday and getting the little extras like… kindling & logs (for the first night at least) soap, shampoo, shower gel, a bottle of wine, milk, teabags, coffee, sugar."

There were none of these things in this cottage. The cottage is also a treacherous walk on the road to Hawkshead. Apart from that it was clean, warm and nicely decorated. The view was also lovely!

Views from the Lodge are beautiful and you really feel like you are staying in the heart of the Lakes. Warm, comfortable and some great walks from the door. Hawkshead is only a short stroll to the village. Perfect holiday, helped by some wonderful autumn weather. Would highly recommend.

It’s very cozy and it has everything you need! We had to unload the dishwasher when we got there, which was a little odd that it wasn’t empty upon arrival. I think the whole lodge needs a freshen up, and in the master bedroom it could do definitely do with a kingsize bed at least, the bed was too small for us being 6’4 and 5’7! If there had been a bigger bed and the lodge had a freshen up all over it would be perfect

Comfy beds and tons of storage space. The kitchen has all you need. One quick thing, the vistors instructions with details on pubs and places to eat does need updating!

It might be the reason we don’t go back and that would be such a shame. Otherwise the most lovely place to stay, despite the rain!! We loved it. Get a new firm mattress, maybe swop the bed for a kingsize and you have literally got the best place to stay in the Lakes. Thank you so much.

  • "The property was as described and had everything we needed for our stay."

It was like a home from home and even had a dog bowl which was perfect as we had forgotten to take one! As our stay was over the New Year period, it was very dark in the evening and would benefit from better lighting around the property, however we did not venture out much due to the weather. How Beck is right next to a fast running stream but as it rained for our whole stay we did not have the pleasuring of sitting out on the decking, which was quite slippery in any event so you do need to be careful. We hope to stay again in the summer to have the full experience of the light nights and warmer weather. All in all a great stay.

However we were disappointed with some aspects of the cleanliness and facilities. Cleanliness: several windows (leading to the decking and the inside porch) were covered in greasy smears and the decking was covered in old bird poo. We appreciate the lovely location means there will be bird poo, but this stuff was very old and a brush/hose down wouldn’t have gone amiss. Facilities: the lid of the kitchen kettle was faulty and continually fell off when pouring

There is lots of parking space. It is a 10 min walk into Hawkshead where there are restuarants and bars - you do have to walk on the road but this was not an issue for us. The kitchen is really well equipped with enough crockery and cutlery for 6 people which is great if you are self-catering. The only slight negative about this property is that the beds are really soft (I'd read this in other reviews and ignored but they are really soft so good to bear in mind if that is an issue).

Thank you for your kind comments, we are so pleased to see that you had an enjoyable stay. We do find that beds are down to personal preference, but we take all comments on board. We hope to welcome you again. The Heart of the Lakes Owner Relations Team Property Owner

Both double mattresses seemed of poor quality and well past their best. The cost paid merited a much higher standard to ensure quality sleep. Residual dog hairs meant 2 adults in our party had constant allergic reactions and needed to take tablets. Information file was many years out of date. Nevertheless, good location and well equipped. Would use again if beds improved and dog hairs removed.

Lots of kitchenware too. The road to the village is a bit dangerous to walk but it is possible if rather muddy to walk mainly off road. Nearby are many excellent attractions. The view from the lodge was wonderful plus the lodge was well equipped and comfortable throughout. The design of the lodge was one of the best we have been to, spacious with plenty of storage and the really useful boot room entrance way. There was lots of kitchen equipment, ( often in self catering accommodation there is just the bare minimum). One suggestion would be the provision of side plates. It was a minor irritation to have to use big plates for a slice of toast.

  • "The lodge and the photos online bear no resemblence to the exterior of the property."

The balcony seating area is badly in need of some cleaning. There was a pile of “dirt” on the outside table and the chairs were not usable until they had been cleaned and scrubbed by us. The bedding, towels etc were clean and fresh. However the overall cleanliness left a lot to be desired. The amount of dust, crumbs and cobwebs were not what we expected for the price that we paid. When we arrived the 1st thing my wife done was Joe down the full kitchen as there were crumbs etc and even some of the dishes still had food stuck to them. The dust in the glass on the extractor fan, I have left a message “dust me” on the top of it. This was supposed to be a break away for my wife, who is recovering from cancer and needs to ensure that everything is clean to avoid infections. The folding shower screen needs replaced as the seal at the bottom is torn away from the screen. This has resulted in “black” damp stains on the bath panel. There is a crack in the bottom of the toilet bowl in both toilets. The dust in the twin bedroom window, behind the curtain, beds and unit was really bad. The views from the lodge is fantastic and the cost of the lodge would easily be justified if the level of cleanliness was improved.

  • "What a GEM!"

We booked this as a close enough get away to our home base and one where the family could relax with our little dog. The property was close enough to the village for a quick walk in - although it is a bit of a narrow road with some border line rally drivers at some parts - so just be careful (even the country walk gets you onto the road for a while). All in all, we loved the area, our kids loved the property and exploring, and we are already thinking about when our travels could bring us back to this magical part of the Lakes.

Internal space was very good. We would definately stay again. A few things to point out - too few plates - a lot of the window latches need fixing as they are either broken or nearly broken - the deck was excellent, but quite a few of the upright pieces of wood on the 'fence' are either loose or coming loose. This was fine for us, but needs fixing before a risk is posed to children getting through

Really cosy and warm (wood burner was a plus during the 12 hour power cut due to Storm Corrie). Very comfortable living space. Well equipped kitchen. Ideal for dogs. • "We had an incredibly disappointing stay in this property, relating to its poor maintenance and appalling standards of cleanliness."

The property is not the 5 star comfort described. By way of brief example, Kitchen cupboards are peeling, bath panel is water damaged, wooden floor terribly water stained. Of greater concern in these Covid times, the overall standards of cleanliness were simply unacceptable. By way of brief example, walls and doors were tea/coffee stained, windows smeared, crumbs on dining table, thick dust on windows sills, kitchen and hall cupboard shelves dirty. The property is well sited with beautiful views and with some much needed TLC and deep cleaning, it could be lovely. We spent the first 90 minutes of our holiday cleaning and eventually terminated out holiday early, desperate to be back to a beautiful, clean home. Its so disappointing to see similar concerns being raised as far back as April with what seems to be little or no action taken to respond to feedback. The description of this property and the accuracy of the listing, in my opinion, urgently needs review.

The shelves in the fridge door were broken making it hard to fit in everything needed for a family of five. We couldn’t take advantage of the local milk delivery as there was no room. The laminate on the cupboards by the hob/ kettle was heat damaged and warped. The modular sofa is past its best especially the end block which wasn’t suitable as a seat as it sinks down in the middle. There was only one functional bedside light in the master bedroom. There are brambles growing up through the decking. None of this really spoiled our holiday but I was disappointed that these issues hadn’t been resolved during/after the lockdown when the lodge would have been empty.
