  • "Very nice little cottage with beautiful views"

  • "Beautiful property in a beautiful location."

Very clean and had almost all the things we needed. Would benefit from having a vacuum cleaner and a clothes line or rail available to guests. Would not recommend the walk to the swimming pool to the less able bodied but can be accessed by car.

  • "The way sykes dealt with the covid was appalling, we had to move our holiday and they would not give us the refund we were owed due to the moving of dates."

The cottage was OK, could have done with a better clean, cobwebs and cleaning product smelt cheap. You could feel springs in double bed, dishwasher didn't clean, swimming pool was too cold to be enjoyable. It was nice and cosy in the cottage but smelt of damp. Shop and lady in shop a delight. Pizza on site delicious.

  • "Cottage warm and comfortable."

Directions to the cottage not very clear. Take you to the courtyard but then no signposting to Dove Cottage though when you know where it is, it is only a short drive away. Feel the kitchen could have more equipment. Saucepans rather small especially if a family of four. There is no outside washing line and in the house is a small (broken) airer. Love the quieter life on the west side of Windermere. Hope to return.

  • "Dove cottage is in a beautiful setting, the cottage is decorated traditionally with all of your home comforts."

A lovely welcome pack on arrival, superb views over the estate with the sheep and pheasants to watch. The pool was a hit with our teenage son. Very clean. The pictures hanging on the wall were somewhat spooky however the history justifies that. A car is essential with good access to Hawkshead Ambleside snd bowness

Thank you for leaving us your review last month. Delighted to read you enjoyed your visit to Dove Cottage, the welcome pack, the lovely views and your son enjoyed using our pool. The cottage does indeed have historical links to the Estate hence some of the older artwork. We hope we can welcome you back to Graythwaite again in the future. Property Owner

  • "Booking was totally inflexible which was a shame as we were attending a wedding on the estate and wanted to arrive on a Friday but instead we had to arrive on the Saturday and were in a big rush for the wedding."

I actually regret booking the cottage because of this. Also the cottage was quite expensive and for the money it was disappointing. I paid half as much for a cottage elsewhere in the Lake District which was very modern and much more comfortable in terms of the beds and sofas as well as the overall feel of the place. Dove Cottage is a bit rough and ready - I know it’s old but it looks like it hasn’t been touched since the 1960s...

  • "Absolutely lovely place and being able to explore the estate was amazing as it has ancient woodland and private lakeshore."

I’d approach the cottage from the north as the bumpy track has potholes and an overhanging branch. Much quicker to come from the north.

  • "The cottage and its surroundings are lovely and met all our expectations, but the hot water system was inadequate as we could not all three of us have a bath on the same evening, indeed there was no water at all on Monday for a period of time."

Also the washer/ dryer as listed was very temperamental and only a washer so all week we spent with clothes on the airer in front of the fire to dry, ( mainly the 3 yr. olds clothes.) No instructions on the heating system were evident and were not all usable. Fortunately if was not too cold in the evenings.

Away from the bustle of life with no traffic passing by. I didn't know such places still existed.

  • "A minor point perhaps: the written directions to the cottage talk about a 'rough' path."

Before going I phoned to check that it was safe for motorcycles and was told yes it was. In fact it wasn't, not for conventional motorcycles anyway: the surface on one section was badly broken, rocky and rutted. Other routes in – which could have been given – were fine
