  • "Rose Hips Barn is a lovely place to stay."

The location is excellent as it is surrounded by beautiful countryside yet it's only a short drive to a busy town with a railway station, supermarkets and cinema. The barn is very spacious, with excellent views over fields to the nearby hills. The rooms are all large and all facilities are available and well maintained. Apart from the main bedroom the rooms upstairs do not have good views, but there is plenty of light from rooftop windows. We had a small problem with the owner's two dogs who barked and howled when they were left alone - but they were quiet in the evening so it wasn't too much of a problem. Some storage space in the "family bathroom" would be appreciated as there's nowhere to put toothbrushes etc. On the other hand there's loads of storage space elsewhere in the house. I would recommend this barn to anyone who would like to spend some time in this area.

The space is very good and the setting is excellent. It would have been useful to have more notes relating to the house, eg how the heating could be controlled (turned down!), how the cooker worked, but it was a perfect place for our group

  • "Clean, comfortable, plenty of space."

Everything that we needed was there to hand. Beds were very comfortable. Appliances were easy to use. People we encountered were very friendly. Lovely big field that we were allowed to walk our dog around and pet the horses. Absolutely stunning views. Only down side the heating was a bit too high and there were no instructions on turning it down to a more comfortable temperature. Apart from that we had a fabulous relaxing week away. We will definitely be returning in the future. Absolutely amazing!!!

The accommodation was first class .clean comfortable and very spacious.plenty of room for all the ages that we're there . Luxurious linen and towels .and enough showers . The kitchen was comfortable and well equipped. But the best part was the views and surrounding areas .you felt like you were in the middle of mowhere not a house to be seen but yet only a few minutes away from the motorway which was practical and convenient. We made friends with the horses and enjoyed relaxing at the pond .the owners two dogs were very friendly .our hosts were there if we needed something but completely non intrusive . And leaving us the milk and biscuits made us feel very welcome . It is definitely a place we recommend and would like to come back to. Thank you

  • "We stayed for a long weekend, 3 families with small children."

Here are my pros and cons: Pros: - Lovely house. Modern but with a lovely cottage feeling. - Modern spacious kitchen with all you need for cooking meals. - Very comfortable beds, spacious bedrooms that allowed us to accommodate comfortably a travelling cot. - Enough bathrooms for everybody, good water pressure. - Spacious driveway that accommodates several cars. - Lovely outdoor space, with horses and a pond full of fishes that the kids loved and enjoyed. - Easy to find with google maps. - Gated estate with security pin to enter and security cameras. - Dogs welcomed. - Underfloor heating. - Overall very clean. Cons: - The price. It was ridiculously expensive compared to the following weekend and for what it was. We felt we were ripped off. - It is NOT suitable for small children. Too many stairs, steps, decorative items, formal sitting room and dining rooms filled with things children would love to touch, we had to shut the doors for those rooms unfortunately. - Not enough instructions on how to turn off the underfloor heating. It was a very warm weekend and was very uncomfortable having the underfloor heating on and we didn't know how to turn it off. Summary: Although the house was beautiful and very comfortable, we could not relax as we had to be constantly on the guard keeping the children safe from all the steps and stairs, etc. Perhaps the experience would have been different for adults only or older children. The price for that weekend was a total rip off, we felt it was for some reason very inflated and unreasonable and we regret making the decision of using this site and staying there. In addition, the cancellation is not flexible at all making it very difficult to accommodate for the unforeseen and there's no option to pay additional for a cancellation insurance. For this reason we won't be using sykecottages again.

It's really well equipped - the kitchen had everything we needed, there were hairdryers in every room, even the dog was well catered for. My only negative was there was no travel cot and high chair which would've been really helpful when travelling already with lots of stuff but it didn't impact our stay at all and we would definitely stay here again. Beds were comfy, nearly all bedrooms had an en-suite, and the rooms were dark which helps putting kids to bed on light evenings. There was a utility with washing machine/ tumble dryer, a lovely outside area, beautiful views and great locality - plus a friendly and warm welcome upon arrival and even a thoughtful welcome pack. Really couldn't have asked for more. Thank you for a Wonderful stay

Dog owners will love the beauty and variety of walks close by. Our grandchildren (8 & 9) are still talking about the two days they spent with us. They had a ball. Weather was kind to us for this time of the year and that helped but wasn't crucial as there is still lots to do. WiFi is not brilliant (buck up BT !) but that didn't take anything away from our stay. Mobile signal is 4G and that is more than enough for daily activities.

The only things you need to take are your own personal toiletries and food. There was more than enough room for 8 people. The whole family found it very comfortable. The owner Deb's as very accommodating allowing the Children age 5yrs and 2 1/2 yr old to see the horses and chickens. The long drive allowed the children to ride their scooters without any fear of traffic under our supervision of course. There is plenty of walks in the area, all detailed in the information booklet and only 40 minuet drive to Southport. The whole family thought the Barn was fabulous . Our daughter has booked her family summer holiday in Cornwall through your company after spending a weekend at Rose Hips Barn. The amenities in the bedrooms meant everyone had an ensuite except us who had the bathroom which meant with nine of us in the cottage there was no waiting to use the loo! etc. The cottage is situated in lovely countryside but near to many places to visit. The owner left us some lovely biscuits, a bottle of wine and a bottle of milk for us on arrival which was very much appreciated.
