"We are a group of four adults who had a bank holiday weekend stay at the house."
It was a very easy lockbox Check in and a very comfortable stay. I would definitely use the place again.
-

"Stayed here for New Year 2023, Myself, husband, 2 daughters and my mum, plus a little dog."
The bedroom configuration worked just great. On arrival, due to the late check in of 5 pm and horrendous weather conditions, it was dark and raining heavily, the cottage was a little tricky to find, plus the weather had made the front path slippery, which wasn't great for rushing all our stuff in. The cottage is very quaint, warm & cosy. Not sure if they had been left by previous guests, but there was washing up liquid, sponges & tea towels in the kitchen and hand soap in the bathroom upstairs, facilities were all great. There was even a few games/puzzles in the lounge for use. The signal to the tv was a bit hit and miss though, was ok when tv was first turned on but after a while it kept dipping, quite tricky to watch programmes of an evening when it kept going on & off! But overall its a lovely cottage and Kirby Stephen is a great little village, just wish I had known how many eateries there where (wouldn't have brought so much of my own stuff!)....pub food, chinese, indian, chippies, quite a lot for a small village. Maybe a text message on day of arrival to say if the cottage is ready earlier than 5 pm would be helpful and a slightly later check out time, especially as you have to strip the beds! Overall we had a great stay at 89 High Street and would definitely recommend it, especially if you like walking as there are plenty of walks either from the cottage or a short drive way.
Thank you Carolyn for your detailed comments and glad you had such an enjoyable time in the cottage and in Kirkby Stephen. Just to say it is fine for guests to check if they can arrive earlier or leave later, particularly in winter or at off peak times. The times set are to allow for our cleaners to sometimes fit in two cottage changeovers in a day especially in the busy periods. If you ask for a different check-in or check-out during peak periods then you may overlap with the cleaners. We also ask if guests don't mind stripping the beds as it does help our cleaners but this is by no means obligatory. Property Owner

"The property is very practical and well-appointed (including in the kitchen)."
It may be a little squashed if you tried to fit five adults in, but it worked well for us with two children and a family home elsewhere in Kirkby Stephen. Being fairly central in town makes it very convenient for all the facilities offered there. The backyard is secure and safe for dogs, which is excellent. My only criticism is that the advert suggests that it has dedicated off-road parking. This is actually parking on a wide pavement out the front of the house which isn't always accessible (e.g. others can park there, or there may not be any way past other cars onto the pavement). In practice, it was always easy to find parking on the main road within 20 metres either way, though.

"Loved staying at this cozy cottage."
It has everything you need. In a great location. Kirkby Stephen is a pretty town and very friendly. We would definitely love to come back again.

"Parking is at the front of the cottage on a wide kerb but other than that the cottage was great , location brilliant , was a lovely place."
-
"Very pleasant small cottage in an excellent location."
We were two adults and a dog which was fine but it might be a bit cramped for 5 adults and a dog due to the size of the kitchen and seating arrangements. Some additional lighting in the living room such as reading lamps would have been welcome. Otherwise very comfortable. All amenities (shops, pubs, cafes etc), a short walk away, and great country walking from the door. The back yard is dog proof. The front garden was secure for our dog, but a more agile one could jump over the walls. Note there is no door between the kitchen (hard washable floor) and the living room (carpet) should you wish to leave a dog in the kitchen overnight. We propped the board from the base of our dog cage in the door frame.

"Lovely house in a quiet town."
Welk kept and maintained. All modern appliances you could hope for, microwave, dishwasher, WiFi. Plenty of information on local attractions and walks. Enclosed rear garden a bonus as our dog is known to be a runner given the opportunity, but no worries here, able to leave the back door open for him to wander in and out as he pleased. Would definitely recommend a stay there.

"We had a great stay at 89 High Street."
Lovely period house, well equipped, cosy and clean. Parking was easy and enclosed gardens are perfect for pooches! Great area, lots to do on the doorstep and surrounding area. Would love to return, thank you!

"A cosy and well equipped cottage in a nice friendly town."
The parking should be described as roadside as we were unable to park at the front of the cottage as people were using the seat and were advised not to use the back as the gates were unstable.
Thank you for your feedback. There is 'off road parking' for one car on the wide pavement in front of the cottage described by Cumbria Highways and Transportation in 1993 as 'maintained as a footway and the authority has no objection to residents parking their cars on this land'. There is a bench nearby but parking is still possible if people are using it. it is helpful to leave some room for pedestrians to walk on the footpath. It is also in use by other residents at times and should extra parking be required there is plenty of unrestricted parking available on the road in front of the cottage and also on the road to the rear of the row of cottages. Parking has been possible at the back of the cottage although due to access being very restricted, this has not generally been widely used by customers.. Property Owner

"Quaint little cottage, perfect for our weekend get away with the girls."
Nice walks, pubs and cafe for brekkie - ideal for what we wanted. A little confusion over the parking, but plants of street parking- as long as you keep the locals happy, you’ll be fine. THANKS

"We had a lovely break in Kirkby Stephen."
Despite the January weather we went on some nice walks alongside the river and on viaduct trails. The house was fine, central heating warmed things up quickly, as did the wood burner. Everything was nice and clean and well equipped. Never went out the back because of the weather but our dog used the enclosed front garden frequently. We only used the main bedroom (which was nice with plenty of cupboard space), but the other 2 rooms looked nice too. The main road is a little busy, but the house is set back so it didn’t bother us. Ate in the Black Bull and had fish and chips from the Coast To Coast chippy - both good (especially the latter if I’m honest). Co Op and Spar handy too. Would recommend and would definitely come again, maybe in the summer next time.

"We had a lovely stay, the cottage is cosy and characterful."
Good to have an enclosed area for the dog. The bed was comfy, didn't notice any road noise. Very good shower. Small grocery store close by. Kirkby Stephen has a number of dog friendly cafes, shops and pubs.

"We had a great stay in this lovely cottage, very old and full of character."
We went during the end of October, and it was warm enough not to have any heating on. We used the wood burner to cosy up in the evenings which was a bonus. Lovely crisp cotton sheets in the beds and clean towels awaited us on arrival. The cottage is placed very centrally for walking into Kirkby Stephens within 10-15 minutes. Kirkby itself is a lovely place to stroll around, the children enjoyed going to the local bakery in the morning for a croissant breakfast. The local church holds the Loki stone which is a great piece of history. Plenty of information was left in the cottage on places to visit. The enclosed back yard was a bonus for the dog to be let out. This cottage is a great base to go off and explore the wonderful lakes and Cumbrian delights.

"This was a great property,3 bedrooms but only used the master room, never needed ..."
This was a great property,3 bedrooms but only used the master room, never needed to use others , enjoyed everything, all equipment was modern and easy to use ( only downfall was the toaster, not cleaned inside properly) this house was close to shops and town centre, and near walks for our dog

"We enjoyed our stay here."
As a very old cottage, the downstairs is rather dark, but we soon got used to having the lights on when we were downstairs- upstairs is bright and airy having more windows and lighter carpets. The kitchen is well equipped and there is lots of hot water with very impressive water pressure! As a dog owner, it’s lovely to have two safe outside spaces for your dog to explore. Kirkby Stephen is surrounded by stunning countryside and places to visit. PS - there is now a hairdryer in the property.
-
"Second stay in this comfortable cottage plenty to do and see and not as expensive as the lakes is getting"
-
"Lovely cottage great location close to the town centre."
Small but adequate for our needs clean and comfortable. One disappointment, minor but worth pointing out - no hair drier which was a surprise these days.
-
"Thank you for letting us stay in this lovely cosy cottage."
It was the perfect location to tour both the Yorkshire Dales, Lake District and County Durham. The Cottage is warm and inviting, providing us with everything we needed for our stay. Kirkby Stephen is a pretty village, with some handy shops, pubs, restaurants/take aways. It was perfect for our little Westie, Daisy as well, with an enclosed back garden. We’d definitely love to visit again.

"A lovely mid terrace holiday cottage with character."
Dog friendly with enclosed front & back gardens. Bedrooms more spacious than shown in the photo. A good powerful shower with plenty of hot water. Great location - Kirkby Stephan itself has lovely shops and walks and is surrounded by so many beautiful places to walk & visit. We are 2 adults+3 teenagers+ a spaniel - the cottage was good for all of us except dining space that was limited as shown on the photo. We felt it would have been great if there was a tumble dryer even if in the shed outside. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage

"Lovely house, great location to explore Yorkshire and the Lakes."

"The cottage itself is lovely but needs a total redecoration."
Cleaners need to do a much better, thorough job. Needs a deep clean. Bathroom needs gutting and redoing
Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are surprised by your comments as the cottage was redecorated almost completely around 3-4 years ago. The last deep clean was undertaken after the first lockdown in summer 2020, and is due now for a yearly deep clean but has not had the usual use because of the Covid-19 crisis. The cottage has consistently scored full marks for cleanliness and I have visited the cottage regularly recently and confirmed it was being cleaned to an acceptable standard. In the bathroom a new bath was fitted in the redecoration 3-4 years ago and a new floor put down. The bathroom is as advertised on the Sykes website and we cannot accept responsibility for the cottage not being to the particular taste of the guests using it. Kind regards, Rachel Haywood Property Owner

"Nice little house."
We were only a family of 3 and a dog and it fitted us well.Parking was fine and local shops are handy. Couldn't comment on local pubs or restaurants as not many open yet due to covid restrictions of outside only,so town quite quiet too. Good position for local walks. The walk up to nine standards was very good.

"This was a great cottage with charm and character and although not in the " luxury" category it was very comfortable and met our needs very well and was as described."
Beds in the first floor rooms were deemed to be very comfotable.House was well equipped. It is just a short walk to the town and the railway station in the other direction. The area is superb, what fantastic country side.
-
"The cottage is so convenient for the town of Kirkby Stephen shops cafes bars all within a 3-4 minute walk."
Number 89 is so well equipped with anything you may need for your stay. This was our 2nd stay here and I’m sure we will be back.

-
"Lovely cottage, ideally located for exploring the eastern Lakes and North Yorkshire."

-
"The property is in a great location for the town and surrounding countryside, but parking is difficult (on the pavement avoiding a bench and a flower tub -- the "back" parking impossible unless you have a mini or a helicopter)."
Information on rubbish/recycling is confusing (we just left everything in the shed eventually). The back "garden" is quite spartan, could be so much better. But comfortable enough, if like our group, you are out most of the time.
-
"The cottage was warm and cosy, the crockery and bed linen top quality with welcome logs all made up in the wood burner ."
Lovely town friendly pubs amazing location walks straight from the front door Definitely would return to this cottage, in fact we didn’t want to leave.
-
"This is a lovely comfortable cosy cottage in a great location."
idealy situated in kirby stephen and beautful surrounding countryside.good base for summer/winter breaks.
-
"Dear Sir or Madam the crockery was good but lacking in pint glasses."
The back way could be cleaner, but overall very good.
-
"Good location for my needs."
Small living area, no private garden (other than a yard) . Think this should be stipulated. Well stocked kitchen and bedroom facilities
-
"A delightful cottage close to all the amenities in Kirkby Stephen."
Well equipped kitchen. Plenty of garden area. Efficient central heating.
-
"Great location for a family holiday."
The cottage is surrounded by beautiful countryside, much less populated than the Lake District the other side of the M6, which makes it very peaceful. There is a lot to do in the local area - we'll have to come back as we didn't have time to fit in all the things we wanted to do! The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped, and has a lovely wood burning stove which is great on a chilly evening. The town is full of interesting shops and friendly locals.
