  • "There could be some clear and simple instruction for the how to use the cooker and hob, as well the microwave."

The password for the WIFI code could be left in clear view. Easy to understand instructions for the heating and underfloor heating could be left out. This would make things more enjoyable when you first arrive as your first night is spent on trying to working all this out.

Clean, comfortable, well equipped and placed in an area that allowed us to access both the lakes and Northern Pennines. Judith left information re local eateries and that was so useful. The local pub was friendly and welcoming. It was also handy having a co-op down the street. We had a little issue with front door look but not enough to put us off! Beautiful wee home from home.

My husband has been over to sort the lock. These things happen unexpectedly. I am pleased you enjoyed your stay and I hope you will stay again. Property Owner

  • "This is a nice, newly renovated cottage in the Village of Lazonby."

Being so near the Railway Station means that you can leave the car at home and travel to Carlisle or Skipton (Leeds if you prefer) directly. It is also near Penrith and not that far to Keswick. There is an excellent Co-Op in the Village with helpful and friendly staff. The Midland Hotel has now reopened. Rose Cottage has many high spec features, it's a lovely cottage, so that I have only minor criticisms. The freezer needs to be accommodated into the Kitchen, going out to the garage is a real pain. The Village has many lorries going through it, some on their way to Bell's Bakery at the station, so the road can be quite noisy and busy. Yapping dogs and people talking loudly are sometimes minor irritations. On the whole great, and luckily no dog smells in the house. Not being a dog owner, you are spared the boring stories of how Fido loved to romp around the pretty garden etc etc.

Glad you enjoyed staying in our cottage. We had comments that we had no freezer so rather than not have one, we put one in the garage, as it was either a freezer or dishwasher in the kitchen it could accommodate both. I hope you will come again. Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed a lovely week at this very comfortable, well presented property."

It was very clean and well maintained, even the window cleaner came while we were there and the lawn was mowed too. There was plenty of hot water and although we only used the on-suite shower (there was only the two of us) it was very powerful. The cottage is well placed for exploring the local area and we used the train from Lazonby into Carlisle which was very good (ages since I've been on a train, very exciting!!). We would certainly recommend Rose Cottage and would award it 10 out of 10!

Thank you so much for the lovely feedback and we are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay. My Grandad worked on the railway , it is something we always try to do, usually we go over the Ribble Head viaduct to Skipton as he worked on it decades ago. Property Owner

  • "This was a comfortable, well equipped cottage with a lovely garden."

Lazonby has excellent facilities for a small village and is well placed for exploring the Eden Valley and border region. I would not recommend the cottage for young children or boisterous pets as though advertised as an enclosed garden due to the layout the front wall is very low from the garden side with a high drop to the pavement.

  • "On arrival I did struggle to find the cottage as we arrived in the dark but luckily some friendly locals helped."

It did say space for 2 cars but not sure where you would have parked the other car but they have a small driveway for one car which was great. The front garden is big and enclosed for any dogs to roam. The cottage is lovely, it was immaculately clean and refurbished to a high standard throughout. The living room/ dining room is average size but very nice with a log burner, underfloor heating and a smart tv. The Wifi was excellent which was useful as I had poor mobile signal. The Kitchen was average size with high end appliances except for the kettle which probably needs replacing. They left a bottle of wine for our arrival which was a kind gesture so thank you. However no essentials like milk, tea or coffee etc so make sure to take your own. The downstairs bathroom was handy with a shower and toilet. The main upstairs bedroom had an ensuite bathroom with a hot and powerful shower and a TV also which was great. All the bedrooms were a decent size and really nicely decorated. Especially the kids bedroom which has been very thoughtfully decorated with bunk beds and lovely decor. We had a really lovely stay here. There is a co op a short walk from the cottage, a local pub and a railway station but thats about it however it is a lovely village with walks nearby. We drove out to many lovely places. I really would recommend this cottage. It was lovely and quiet as its link detached so no noise from neighbours. It is on a road but it's not very busy and I hardly noticed any road noise. Thank you so much to Judith and Zeke for a lovely stay. Me, my mum and the dog had a great time. And thank you to the cleaners for ensuring it was very clean throughout the whole property. This a lovely place to stay for a holiday in the Lakes and would definitely recommend to anybody looking for a relaxing break.

As the seasons were changing, we were particularly grateful this time for the underfloor heating! We have always found this one of the best-equipped cottages where we stay, and another big plus is the village's well-stocked Co-op store. Very comfortable and convenient for exploring lots of places in the Lake District, we nevertheless fell foul of there being no train services from the nearby Settle and Carlisle railway station throughout our visit - due to circumstances totally beyond anyone's control! All being well, we will certainly be back at Rose Cottage before too long. As far as the railway is concerned, we have unfinished business

  • "We were purposely looking for somewhere just outside the Lake District National Park as we know that offers far better value, is less congested, and yet is just as beautiful, and within easy reach of the parts of the park we wanted to visit."

Rose Cottage fitted the bill perfectly, and we somehow knew that once we established that the owner runs her own B&B business elsewhere in the Lakes, every detail would be taken care of by someone whose own livelihood revolves around welcoming visitors. Lazonby itself and the surrounding villages are lovely and mostly peaceful, yet the road access to most busier parts of the Lake District is excellent. While the cottage is less than 10 minutes' walk from the railway station, lying on the famous Settle & Carlisle railway line, you do really need a car to make the most of your stay. We arrived as two family groups, and were able to park both our vehicles reasonably easily. We had an eventful time getting to grips with the cottage's hob and oven, but overall all of the appliances are excellent - probably more than most people will need on holiday. Another good touch was the plentiful supply of crockery and cutlery, as we find many holiday cottage owners only leave a bare minimum. The village's Co-op store is large and generally well-stocked, but you're only 20 minutes' drive from the town of Penrith where there are two large supermarkets, so keeping supplied isn't a problem. One minor quibble would be about the bedding supplied - this was probably fine for visitors at cooler times of the year, but in the main bedroom at least, is somewhat over-generous for the summer, and we were rather warm on most nights. A lighter-weight duvet as an alternative to the one supplied would be just the job!

There is a lovely garden with patio furniture that you can enjoy in good weather. There are games and dvd's provided which is a good thing as, Lazonby is an ideal location to reach the lake district, Carlisle, Penrith etc, but it does not have a lot of amenities. With log burning stove that was great one we got the knack of lighting it. Very comfortable with excellent facilities. Situated in a small village, but with good size Co-op to buy messages. Also has a train station that can be used to for days out if no one wants to drive. Has nice garden with table and chairs that can be used in the good weather. If taking a pet don’t let it out in garden to run around alone as they can escape through small gap in fence at the side of garden and down the stairs (this was the only negative thing about the whole cottage) Would recommend staying there as we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

The décor was excellent, it was extremely comfortable and the log burner was fantastic. The cottage was clean, tidy, well located and had lots of useful amenities. The only issue we had was around heating and hot water, as there was no heating on arrival other than the log burner. This was "fixed" on the Monday, but broke again on the Tuesday, after which we had no heating or hot water. This was a real shame as the cottage was excellent!! Fortunately the wood burner kept us warm, and the lack of hot water was more of an issue than the lack of heating. I would highly recommend this cottage when the boiler is fixed!!
