"A real find and a wonderful stay; elegantly furnished, spotlessly clean and very comfortable and relaxing."
We stayed here 6 nights and had a lovely time. Its location is excellent for exploring and commuting and a peaceful place to return to.
-
"Lovely, quaint little cottage."
Had a great 2 weeks here. There was plenty of space for two people plus pooch, comfortable bed, plenty of kitchen utensils and log burner which was great for the colder winter nights. There are some fabulous walks on the cottage doorstep and a wonderful garden with summer house. Slightly off the beaten track so would need a car to travel into the nearest village.

"I had a lovely stay."
But I went on very cold days not a problem with cottage. I will go in the summer for some peace and quiet.
-
"Second time we have been there although this time winter so lots rain but it is perfect for relaxing, catching up on sleep and absolute silence from hectic suburban living."
We will be booking for next year. Owner is a darling.

"It was a lovely clean and quaint property, lovely grounds with pond, very quiet location and nice views of the Ribble Estuary National Reserve."
The owner was very friendly and helpful. Within easy distance journey to beaches, we liked Formby and Ainsdale very pretty and can walk along the sand which is fairly solid under foot.
-

Comfortable cottage with very well equipped kitchen. Adequate heating provided for cooler evenings etc. Gardens for visitors use with birds, ducks and swans! Would definitely recommend to all.
-
"A lovely cottage, perfect for me an my dog, Alfie."
Would highly recommend. An enjoyable week for both of us. Lots of walks and hardly needed to put Alfie on the lead all week.
-
"We had a lovely week at Old Hallow Cottage."
The cottage was spotlessly clean and Bobby the dog loved running in the beautiful big garden.
-
"Old Hollow Cottage is a delightful cottage, very homely and very cosy and comfortable."
It's quite spacious and even has a separate dining room. There is a small patio for sitting out with an extended garden. There is also access to a summer house with a larger garden and pond. The owners are very welcoming and happy to help with anything visitors might wish to ask. The cottage is on a working farm and there is close access to Banks Marsh which is where the farm cattle graze. There is an excellent footpath along the embankment which goes to Hesketh Bank in one direction or to Crossens and onward to Southport in the other. We had a marvellous stay here and would thoroughly recommend it.

"I had a lovely relaxing time."
Walks on the doorstep. Milly, my dog loved it I could open the door and she could wander around the farm. She loved not having to be on a lead a lot of the time. Janet, the owner was friendly but not intrusive. The cottage was very comfortable. Hope to go again.

"Lovely little cottage, extremely clean and exactly how it was represented online."
Loved the closeness to the coastal walk, great for my dog.
-
"An excellent, very well equipped, comfortable, cosy cottage a very short distance from the marsh which was filled with birds of all sorts."
Large skeins of geese filled the sky quite often at this time of year (February), which was wonderful.

"Lovely stay, very quiet and peaceful."
Accommodation was better than the photos and very good value. A short car ride to plenty of amenities. If you like space and wildlife, and you want to get away, this your place.

"Joyce and Ian Old Hollow Cottage is lovely and we all enjoyed the holiday, including our dog Patch who liked seeing Janet's dogs and the swans and cygnets every morning."
Janet is really helpful about anything you need to know about the area and would recommend anyone who wants a relaxing break to book a break to stay in the cottage as it is so comfortable and cosy.

"Away from everything, so peaceful."
Just cow's, ducks, geese, swan's, 3 small dog's and a very friendly owner. More than enough walks for the dog. Coop is the closest, then Southport is 10 mins away with bigger food stores. There is a lovely park on Albert Road.

About the location
SOUTHPORT
Ainsdale 4 miles; Ormskirk 8 miles; Formby 8.5 miles.
Southport, along with its neighbour Ainsdale, lies on the coastline where the Irish Sea meets North West England. The town was founded in 1792 when an innkeeper, William Sutton, built a bathing house at what is now the south end of Lord Street, the main road running through the town. The town was small and not very widely populated until the turn of 19th century, when it became popular with tourists due to the easy access it provided to Leeds and Liverpool Canal. It quickly expanded and now boasts the second longest pleasure pier in the British Isles, the Southport Pier Tramway and Lord Street, an elegant, tree-lined shopping destination. From Birkdale to Woodvale, sand dunes stretch along the coastline and in Ainsdale in particular, the dunes have now been listed as a National Nature Reserve and a designated Ramsar site. The coastline stretches for 22 miles, with plenty of beaches to be discovered, making this classic seaside resort the perfect place to relax and unwind. There are scenic parks and gardens to explore, fabulous shopping opportunities, an exciting nightlife, as well as a mouth-watering array of restaurants and traditional seaside amusements. Stroll down the UK’s oldest iron pier and try the old penny slot machines in the Pavilion, or ride traditional carousels at Silcock’s Funland. Family attractions include Splash World, Martin Mere and Farmer Ted’s, while The Atkinson, an £18 million arts venue, is set in a Grade II listed building hosting a variety of visual and performing arts events. Southport’s extensive events programme includes the World Musical Fireworks Championships, the Southport Food and Drink Festival, Southport Air Show, Southport Flower Show and the Southport Jazz Festival. It is part of England’s Golf Coast and is home to seven championship courses, including Royal Birkdale, which hosted The Open Championship in 2008. In a great spot for a beach break, there really is something for everyone!
