  • "The back yard was very small."

There were no pictures of the back yard on your website. Property owner adjusted the heating for us and was very quick to respond to our email which was much appreciated.

Clean and comfortable with everything you need. Ideal location in a quiet little village and only a short drive down to Ullswater Lake/Pooley Bridge (maybe 7-8 mins) which is absolutely beautiful. Would highly recommend.

  • "The property was brilliant, great location, really cosy and the beds are mega comfy."

The description says parking at the front, which I misread. The parking is on a small, quiet road(really safe) not at the side on block paving. We had a 3 day power cut due to a very strong storm, but the owners were really helpful and generous to help us through! 100% would recommend and we really want to go back!

  • "The cottage itself was very nice and comfortable and the area was lovely."

My only gripe is that when we arrived we opened the back door and lots of flies flew inside and it took 2 days to get rid of them all. You couldn’t leave the back door open because the flies would get in which wasn’t ideal due to the hot weather we were having. Lots to do in the area with some lovely walks.

We are pleased you enjoyed your comfortable stay at Rayside. As the Lake District is an agricultural area, on occasion, when the weather is particularly hot, there can be flies around. It is great to hear you enjoyed the local area and surrounding walks. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is clean and very comfortable."

The village is quiet , and the locals are very friendly . We did a walk from the cottage, over to Dacre and round to Dalemain and back, but there are other options. It’s close to the pub, village shop and hotel. We had a dog with us, and like previous reviews, we could take him inside with us when we visited the hotel and so we frequented this most nights and the pub once (dogs only allowed outside here and the nights were a bit chilly). Would recommend this cottage .

  • "A lovely cottage in a quiet location."

The villagers were very friendly and helpful. The cottage was very well equipped and the kitchen had everything that could be needed. The supply of tea, coffee and sachets of milk were appreciated as the Post Office/store closes at 2.00pm. Groceries can be ordered for collection the next day. The owner took the trouble to contact me to make sure that I knew where to find the electric fan as the weather was so hot. We travelled by train so it was important to us that the buses stopped near by. The buses run hourly but because the route is from Penrith to Workington, they are sometimes delayed. Dogs are allowed in the area outside the pub but not inside. However, I was pleasantly surprised that the hotel did allow us to take the dog inside, for which we were grateful as the heavens opened while we were enjoying our meal. Overall, the cottage had a homely feel and had everything that we needed for an enjoyable holiday.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are pleased you had an enjoyable holiday and found the complimentary tea and coffee useful. We will pass on your comments to the hotel and look forward to welcoming you back to Rayside. Property Owner

Lovely cottage in a fantastic location. Easy to get to in 5 minutes from the motorway, a few minutes from all the facilities of Penrith, yet just a few minutes drive to the shores of ullswater and tranquil Lake District walking routes. The cottage was very well equipped with a great attention to detail from the owner. Great communication from the owner also which was welcome and helpful. Many people I’m sure could criticise the odd thing but standards were so high it would be churlish to do so… nothing is completely perfect. Will definitely be staying at Rayside. A home from home..thanks again to the owners

  • "Rayside looked appealing in photograph and we were not disappointed once inside."

It had a really welcoming homely feel and and it was easy to relax from the outset. The little welcoming touches were very much appreciated including a surprise Easter egg, litre of milk, and tea / coffee tray. I was delighted to find the kitchen so well stocked with cleaning products, accessories and so on, and was able to cook our Easter Sunday dinner easily. The decor upstairs was also welcoming and homely. We all slept really well, as the location is so peaceful and the beds very comfortable. The bedlinen and towels were clean, soft and of high quality and the bathroom was ideal for us all (good shower and lovely warm floor!) The back yard was a great space to allow our dog to roam and keep her feeding / water bowls and we made good use of the freezer. The instruction guide you left was extremely helpful and we literally did not need for anything further during our stay. The location of the cottage is really well sited for accessing so many areas of the lakes easily. We spent our days walking around Grasmere then Ullswater and were blessed with fantastic weather throughout. In summary, we couldn’t have asked for a nicer break.

The cottage was exceptional and far exceeded our expectations. It was very clean, the furnishings made it very cosy. The kitchen was well equipped, we took our own cafetière but there was one provided so didn’t need it. Plus the recent addition of a washing machine was a bonus. The little green at the front of the house was perfect for an early morning work with the dog The location was ideal for visiting local attractions. We spent a day at Lowther castle & a day at Aira force, just wish we had better weather but we still went out and about.

Kitchen very well equipped - milk in fridge which was a nice touch. Double bed as listed - very firm mattress. Fly spray included - you might well need it, a lot of pesky flies around. TV with welcome access to Netflix - no DVD player if that matters to you. Parking immediately in front of the cottage - beware broken, loose stones underfoot. Location - superb! Excellent access to Pooley Bridge and Ullswater. Stainton is a lovely spot.

Thank you for your constructive feedback regarding your recent holiday at Rayside.
