  • "Quantity of crockery & cutlery is limited if four person occupancy."

Could be tricky. Might be an idea to have mattress and pillow covers. Fan in shower room not operating and there was some damp in corridor by bedroom door. Assume was rain getting under roof tiles and running down internal wall. Needs attention. However, I loved location and out look, and suspect in the sunshine must be amazing. Perfect for short walks in the rain with my dog and waking to just the sound of pheasants and blackbirds was spot on. Calm and peaceful despite Debi’s worst!

  • "A great place, very comfortable and well equipped."

Clean and well maintained although it did have a smell of wet dog so I assume there had been a dog with previous customers. Lovely setting and very tranquil. Will definitely be back.

  • "A pleasant and very clean ground floor only apartment in the famous Graythwaite Cottages in Near Sawrey in Lakes."

You are very close to Beatrix Potter's house and have plenty of great scenery and walks close by. Aside from the fact that the lake district is now ever more expensive than ever before with car parking and food rocketing plus quality declining the cottage was great.

  • "Directions were a bit confusing but once we found the cottage we couldn’t have been happier."

It was clean, bigger than we thought but had everything anybody would need for a stay. The views from the small patio area were spectacular and having a grassy area right next to the cottage meant our dog loved it as well. Apart from the great scenery our highlight was a few beers and some unbelievably good food at the local pub, the Tower Banks. Would go again

.. our home from home and it never disappoints. A perfect retreat for relaxation and comfort. Thank you.

  • "Cottage needs a really deep clean throughout, central heating works but radiators a barley lukewarm and without the log fire it would be very cold inside."

Facilities are sparse, not enough in kitchen, should have as a minimum a welcome pack of at least milk / bread / scones / few logs / teabags / coffee. I've given feedback in the past on this cottage and in 12 months nothing has changed so what's the point!!

  • "Broadband awful kept dropping out & only 2 devices would connect."

Not good enough when reliant on it. Cottage could do with a deep clean, cobwebs in corners & dusty lampshades but bedding/towels clean & comfortable. Bathroom tired could do with modernisation. Final thought to remove the carpets throughout & replace with wooden floors - Much cleaner/easier with a wet dog! Overall enjoyed our stay, & would return.

  • "The cottage was lovely however i booked this as it said there was BB and although there was an open shared BB it kept dropping out and the speed was very poor."

I would also have liked a welcome folder as this is has always been available in every other property. This normally has the info about the appliance and general info of the area i.e. local walks good food guide. the only info i could find was regarding the microwave and cooker nothing else. However with this said these are minor things and would not put me off booking again so long as the BB is fixed

  • "Great property, very well located, had an issue with the tv internet but the maintenue guy came out straight away!"

Only issue we have is with Sykes check in and check out times, a whole 7 hours for cleaning was a full day of the holiday wasted and they advertise it as 7 days? It wasn’t very clean in places either so what do they spend the time on? Overall happy with location and facilities of the property but Sykes really need to sort the check in/out times as we expect it to be extremely clean after 7 hours of cleaning

Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear you were disappointed with the check-in and check-out times. We appreciate that there is a seven hour window for the owners to conduct the cleaning, however, they have several properties that require cleaning in this timeframe. If you found that the property was not cleaned to a satisfactory manner they do apolgise. The owner has confirmed that they were not made aware of any issue that you had , but would have been more than happy to send a cleaner back to the property if they had been made aware. Thank you again for your comments Property Owner

  • "I would like to see tea/coffee, milk and at least a few bread rolls or scones on arrival, as you are not allowed into the property until 4."

30, it's a bit late to be going back out for basic amenities. Not all pans are induction friendly so you can't use them which is not a lot of use. A couple of logs and firelighters wouldn't go a miss

  • "The place is lovely, but the timing to enter the property is late especially when the clocks have gone back."

Would have been nice to have a bottle of wine or nibbles on entering the property!! There was also no logs so had to purchase some locally, if we had known we would have brought our own. We enjoyed the holiday with our dog and went for many walks.

  • "I was unable to travel from South Hampshire because of the fuel shortage."

The owners immediately rejected my request to move to an an open date in 2022. Sykes just played a passive role. I lost my holiday and all my money. As a primary carer I cannot afford to lose my holiday and the money. No compassion, I warning to others and as I regular Sykes customer it is unlikely I will another holiday with them.

It takes away 2 days essentially. Maybe an option to pay a supplement fee for a later check out or earlier check in.

About the location

SAWREY

Hawkshead 2 miles.

The village of Sawrey is situated two miles from Hawkshead down the eastern side of Esthwaite Water, overlooked by the woods and tarns of Claife Heights. Sawrey consists of two separate hamlets - Near Sawrey and Far Sawrey - both with a cluster of picturesque cottages, tea rooms and pubs. Near Sawrey is famous for Hill Top, the 17th century farmhouse where Beatrix Potter wrote her acclaimed children's stories. Now a museum, owned and run by the National Trust, Hill Top is one of the most visited houses in the Lake District. Far Sawrey is the hamlet furthest away from Hawkshead and the nearest to the ferry point on Windermere. It offers a church and pub/restaurant with a beer garden. There are good walks in the area, including those to Claife Heights and in Grizedale Forest. It's also a great base for enjoying a wide variety of typical Lakeland pursuits - with watersports close at hand on Lake Windermere, fishing on nearby Esthwaite Water and, of course, fell walking.
