  • "We really enjoyed staying at Combe Cottage."

It was very clean and well furnished. The lounge is very comfortable and the big dining table was great for family board games in the evenings. It's in a very handy location and is only a short drive to many different places including the beautiful nearby beaches. I would definitely recommend it and hopefully we will be back very soon.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay so much, and look forward to welcoming you back soon Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed our week's stay at Combe cottage."

The house is very well equipped, clean and nicely decorated and has plenty of space to spread out (apart from the kitchen which is rather on the small side. But it was adequate for 2 people and we ate out quite a lot anyway.) There is an unlimited supply of hot water and a good sized bathroom. Silecroft itself, is a lovely little village, if lacking in basic amenities such as a general shop. But again, that was not really a problem, having taken the most essential groceries with us. The local pub, the Miner's Arms, is a great place for a couple of drinks at the end of the day. Sadly they no longer do food. We loved the fact that we could walk to the train station in a minute and catch a train to one of the many stops further up the coast, such as Ravenglass and St Bees (or down to Millom etc). The Silecroft beach is just a few minutes drive away. Our dog loved it! As did we! Three miles of unspoilt, beautiful sand (when the tide goes out). We would definitely go again!

Thank you so much for your positive and informative feedback. We are delighted you enjoyed it so much and look forward to welcoming you back soon. Property Owner

  • "This is a charming cottage, we were very pleased with it."

Everything you need is at the cottage, well thought out. Lovely quite place. The only 2 problems was the heating was not on when we arrived, we didn't realise until the next morning as we came late due to traffic. No hot water in the morning. My husband got it on. The system is old, and could in the future do with updating, which I'm sure the owners are aware of. The only other problem was no bath mat when taking a shower. This is only because I had a bad accident in a hotel, and its a particular fear of mine. Regarding the parking, we got parked outside the door mostly, otherwise just down the street, it wasn't a hassle, don't understand what the fuss is about.

Thank you for your feedback, it is appreciated. The heating has been replaced, you were the last clients before a new boiler and all that goes with it. I am sorry it had conked, it had a steady loss of pressure with no reason, and as your husband found out if you repressurised by opening up the filler coil it would be fine, but its not something we recommend fiddling with, I had left it on the night before for you on a timed low setting, and also left my personal number for any queries as my local plumber was on standby in case it did this before he could fit the new one, which he now has, but you didn't call. I hope this will not be an issue again with the brand new boiler and apologise for the inconvenience. Regarding the bath mat, there was one, a heavy towelling one, on the bathroom handrail, but it may have looked like another towel. I'm grateful for your comment and will put in rubber backed ones that are clearly bath mats, and ask the cleaning team to put them over the bath rather than the towel rail. The parking fuss was the last neighbour, a great family but with two huge cars, they have moved out and the cottage next door is now being bid for as holiday cottage, so it should have one car there from now on. I'm very happy you found the cottage charming and were pleased with it, and your feedback will help make it a better let for future guests, thank you Property Owner

  • "Combe Cottage was a great place for what we paid."

I was central for lots of places such as the Lakes, the beaches and the Miner's Arms was two doors away. It was really clean and decorated well. The beds were comfortable apart from the second bedroom which was only really suitable for children as the beds were quite small. The kitchen is tiny and has no worktop space, even to wash up and drain. In fairness though there is a dishwasher. The parking could be an issue in busy times as the neighbours tend to hog the space. You either have to park down the road outside someone else's house or, if you are friendly, ask the pub if you can park on their car park. The neighbours do not appear to want to converse. The highlight for us was the lovely people around here. Silecroft is a small hamlet and most people are really friendly. The Miner's Arms is a lovely place to make friends and Ryan and his Dad were very welcoming. It's a shame that the place is up for sale. My husband loved it there as they have lovely ale and he could watch football. The beach is just down the road. It is lovely and quiet and has a free car park, lovely ice cream and you can sit there on the benches and while away the hours. The lakes are nearby and are amazing. The coast is lovely and this lovely little house is a bargain! Stairs are steep but they make that clear in the description. Outdoor space at the back has no privacy and is limited. I would not trust my dog to not jump over the wall. All in all we had fab weather and a good experience, but this was mainly due to lovely people and lovely country side.

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, the Miners Arms is a wonderful pub, with its food, award winning real ale, lovely beer garden, we are also sad it is for sale. You can park for some time in the lane between the house and shed, or outside the house when the neighbours have not parked there, it is a pity they have two vehicles and tend to leave one there, however they do keep an eye on the place and would be willing to help in any emergency. It is a little cottage with a little yard, though plenty of room for 4 to sit and eat outside, and the photos and price reflects that, the yard wall is about average waist height, we will be adding trellis to it next year to keep any determined dogs in. We are glad you thought our cottage lovely, and enjoyed your stay, we have decorated and furnished it with love. Property Owner

  • "Lovely comfortable cottage, luckily for us the weather was lovely and the patio garden is a little suntrap."

The beach was a ten minute walk down the road and dog friendly. The cottage had everything you could need for your stay. Would definitely recommend for a nice chilled weekend away.

Thank you for your feedback, it is very much appreciated. We are delighted you had such a good stay at Combe Cottage. It is full of very happy family memories for us, and we are delighted it is now somewhere others can make them too. The cottage is new to Sykes as are we and we are just getting used to the system, so I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the feedback before yours that I cannot access here, we were able to tighten the pans, fix the boiler door and leave a note to load and un load in the lane by the house if the neighbours parks outside, which meant we had it all ready for you, and are absolutely chuffed both parties enjoyed it so much. Thank you. Property Owner

  • "Good points Combe cottage is in a quiet location with just a short drive to the beach, the property was spacious and well equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay, it was perfect for myself, partner and my two teenage sons who loved the variety of games, who doesn’t love 3 hours of monopoly?"

We all enjoyed our stay and have made some amazing memories I would 100% stay again. Just a nice to know, but not an issue: We couldn’t park outside the property the whole trip, a large red jeep was parked directly outside the house and all other spaces were taken, I parked just past the pub on a bit of land and carried our bags down to the house. Had to prop the maiden against the boiler as the cover was open and on the floor when we arrived, the duct tape Kept coming loose causing a loud bang as it hit the floor. Pan handles need tightening, they were loose
