  • "Nice secluded cabin, very peaceful."

Good base for exploring Cumbria and the Lakes.

  • "We are already looking at our calendars to come visit again, we absolutely loved our stay."

Cottage was warm, snug, extremely welcoming and bed was super comfortable and cosy. It was everything that my partner and I needed after exploring the rural areas. The Farmers Arm Pub which is a small walk along the footpath from the cottage, is an absolute must too, we went for the Wednesday community lunch which was absolutely gorgeous, they have an art studio with honesty shop. Grasmere is definitely going to be a yearly break for us now x

The facilities were all that we needed. No extras were provided and so a trip to a supermarket was essential. Luckily Booths in Ulverston was ideal, lots of nice food and ready meals

  • "Grasmere is a lovely log cabin."

It is in a quiet and peaceful location. It is only four miles from Ulverston, where there is Booths supermarket, which was useful, as the local shop in Greenod has been closed down. We had a lovely stay and enjoyed the bird song, watching the hares and the Fox. A weekend away, which soothed the soul.

. I could not stay and left right away though the owner was sympathetic and tried to help by contacting sykes who declined to provide a refund... Those details should have been mentioned before one finalise his/her booking and pay... I wish a hard walkway pavement be made connecting the car park to the lodge entrance

We switched it on when we arrived as was a bit chilly but it never came on during our stay. Luckily, the rest of the week was mild and the heat from the living area moved through the cabin when kept the door leading to the room open.

  • "We are used to high standards with Sykes cottages but I'm afraid Grasmere did not hit those standards."

The lodge had a beautiful setting but was tired and needed updating. There were a lot of little things that could have been done to bring it up to the standard we have come to expect from Sykes.

  • "This was our second visit to Grasmere Lodge and we enjoyed it as much as the first time."

The setting is beautiful - peaceful, surrounded by flowers and trees that attract a variety of wildlife. It feels remote but is only a short drive from Coniston, Ulverston and the southern end of Windermere. The accommodation is quite simple - no washing machine or dishwasher - but well equipped as a comfortable base for a holiday in the Southern Lakes.

  • "We enjoyed our stay in Grasmere so much that we have booked to visit again in the spring."

The lodge is in a lovely peaceful setting with fine views of the garden and hillside from all the windows. Although up a very quiet lane (which suited us fine) you soon access the route towards Coniston, and the A590 is a few minutes away at Greenodd. We were able to walk in the hills in the mornings and visit the estuaries and coast in the afternoon. The accommodation was warm, comfortable and well equipped with good quality bed linen and towels.

  • "The heating wasn’t great, small accommodation, very isolated, shower wasn’t great."

    Old smell.

Thank you for your feedback. We fully appreciate that it has been very cold recently due to the bad weather, therefore we have provided extra convector heaters in the property. If you required further heating during your stay, we were only a phone call away to discuss. The property is on the smaller side, and we feel that the photographs, and the price both reflect this. The website does state that the nearest village is 1.5 miles away, so we feel Guests are prior warned that the property is a little out of the way. Lastly, we did attend to the property following your visit, and we feel that the shower is in full working order. Thank you again for your comments, it is greatly appreciated. Property Owner

My 2 friends and i sat on the veranda most of the weekend just listening to the wildlife and watching the birds hop from tree to tree right in front of us or looking at the beautiful scenery that changed every hour. Just when you thought it couldnt get any better you would spot a deer on the edge of the forest litterally right in front of you. We got there on friday night and booked for same time next year on saturday while we were there. Thats how much we all adored it. I think between us we took a thousand photos as we wanted to remember all of that stunningly beautiful weekend.

We watched rabbits and squirrels from the kitchen window every morning, and on the last day there was a deer there as well. Even on the first, appallingly wet day, with biblical rain, it was a pleasure just to be in this lovely setting, warm and cosy, watching the rain sheet down. We will definitely return to this chalet!

The internet was very slow. I was disappointed as we didn't receive any welcome and introductory information. We were only told off by Mrs Campbell for parking in a wrong spot and for my children running around the garden. Wonder if a smile came at some extra cost, she was very grumpy. Apart from that it was a great spot and I would recommend the place to a friend.

About the location

GREENODD

Ulverston 4 miles; Coniston 11 miles.

The small village of Greenodd rests on the estuary of the River Leven, within the Crake Valley, on the borders of the Lake District National Park. Once an 18th century shipbuilding centre and a significant commercial port, exporting locally quarried limestone, gunpowder and copper, Greenodd today is effectively a cul-de-sac with a selection of shops and a local pub, The Ship, which provides a visible link to the village’s history. The ancient market town of Ulverston is just 4 miles away, famous for its street markets and festivals, and boasts a wide range of shops, pubs and leisure facilities. It is also home to the only Laurel and Hardy museum in the world. This is a great location for a walking holiday and all the attractions of the National Park are within easy reach, including Coniston and Windermere, as is the beautiful Furness Coast with its golden beaches and good birdwatching opportunities. An ideal location for enjoying fantastic coastal and countryside pursuits.
