  • "Let us start with the positives."

8 Coach House is a lovely property, it is quirky and different, which is refreshing. It is very spacious and provides nearly everything that you would have in your own home.Despite being near a busy road, we found the property to be very quiet, apart from the morning before we left for home. Some very inconsiderate adults decided to be loud mouthed at around 6am, from the sound of it, they appeared to be on the property grounds. The property is well furnished but does lack wardrobes. I texted John shortly after we arrived on the Wednesday as we needed help to get the heating on and he did promptly ring me back. However half the radiators were not coming on or were lukewarm apart from the middle bedroom which was hot. Due to only staying a few nights, I didn't re-contact John, if we had been staying for a week, I would have phoned him back. The hot-tub was lovely, especially with it being winter. The property is advertised as having a dishwasher but there isn't one. The property is very modern but retains remnants of the past, such as the wooden beams which is lovely. The glass jar in the kitchen provided coffee, tea, sugar, milk which was very welcome. The washing machine is a big plus, especially for washing your swim wear after being in the hot-tub. The towelling robes were a nice extra thought as many properties we have stayed in haven't provided them. Now for the not so positive observations. We couldn't find any recycling facilities onsite, the big bins in the car park were overflowing and likely to attract rats, especially as there is a farm next door. We were unable to put the bag of rubbish out of the kitchen bin outside for the previous reason. The rear yard isn't very private as the Hall's grounds are at the side where anyone can walk across. We were glad we were not in the hot-tub as two men walked through past our yard into the grounds. There should be a side gate which should only be accessible for guests who stay at Coach House. The property is advertised as having Netflix etc on the TV sets, none of the streaming services worked at all whilst we stayed at the Coach House, the internet rarely worked either so mostly had to rely on the data on my phone. Surely with all the latest technology, the broadband should be more reliable. It would be great if their were hooks to hang clothes on, eg: backs of doors. The stair hand-rail at top of stairs was coming away from the wall and needs to be fixed. The freezer was clogged up with ice, a frost free fridge freezer would be better? The blinds on the velux windows in the bedrooms were very awkward to pull across. It would be great if a blind could be put across the back door, as it made us feel 'exposed' if that makes sense. Overall, it is a lovely place and convieniently placed for local attractions. However, we would choose an 'independent' cottage next time and be unlikely to return.

Hamilton House Development

The Hamilton Development dates back to the 1600s and was originally built for the Duke of Hamilton, James Hamilton, with the surrounding grounds also owned by the Duke. James the Duke Hamilton was killed in the early 1700s during a duel in Hyde Park, and the property was then passed down through future generations. In 1986, the development was made a Grade II listed building, before later becoming a collection of six luxury apartments and three high-end barn conversions. Original features have been kept and restored, which was of high importance to the British heritage report, and now welcomes groups who desire to explore the South Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, and Lancashire. This group’s location is ideal as there are some amazing treks and lovely eateries on the doorstep, and the town is worth a visit! Close by is the village of Scorton, which has a lovely three-mile walk around Nicky Nook with views of the Forest of Bowland, Heysham, and Morecambe. This trip concludes with two well-known eateries, The Apple Store and The Barn. Both are worth seeing while you're here! Garstang, a market town just down the road, has a range of shops, cafés, and pubs, as well as a weekly Thursday market. Lancaster's ancient downtown has a plethora of restaurants, shops, and bars; alternatively travel up to the castle for stories of the famed Pendle witches. The region is ideal for individuals who want to get out in the fresh air and explore the local footpaths or pedal the calm country lanes. Further afield, the home is close to both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales National Parks, allowing you easy access to some of Britain's most spectacular landscapes and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, including Arnside and Silverdale, as well as the Forest of Bowland. The finest in local produce, cuisine and drink, award-winning gastro-pubs, and tourism attractions may be found in picturesque adjacent towns and villages. Activities in Ingleton include caving, climbing, and walking by the Waterfalls, while attractions in the south Lake District include the South Lakes Safari Zoo, Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, Lakes Aquarium, The World of Beatrice Potter, Lakeland Motor Museum, and Holker Hall Gardens. A trip south will take you to the seaside town of Blackpool, which is packed with activities, including Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Sandcastle Water Park, and Arcades on the Pier. Nestled between both the coast and countryside, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at Hamilton House Development.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.
