• "Absolutely loved the cottage."

  Gorgeous views and the warmest of welcome. Lots to do in the area and then back to the cottage to watch the birds flying backwards and forward to the feeders was the best way to unwind. Loads of information given by the owners and views to die for. Will definitely be back.

• "Really well presented cottage."

  Warm welcome from the owners, with good contact details and we were welcomed with scones and fresh eggs. Everything that we needed was provided. Excellent walks and the pack with details had lovely touches from the owners with their experiences. Will definitely look at booking again.

• "We have had a lovely few days at Bothy."

  Mark and jo were lovely hosts, with little touches such as fresh jam and scones and a warm personal welcome making a world of difference. The cottage is lively and comfortable and the spaces for the dog were amazing, she absolutely loved it. Definitely somewhere I would recommend and we hope to stay again soon.

• "The Bothy is an absolute gem, a comfortable place to come back to after a day out walking in the hills, a fabulous location and made to feel very welcome by Mark and Jo."

  The eggs and scones were all appreciated, and it was lovely to enjoy breakfast hoping the red squirrel would visit the bird feeder (other than one day it was there everyday!). No matter the mixed weather, and other than one day's short trip into Alston,the car stayed parked, as the walks out were fantastic and in fact a reason I am already looking forward to coming back as there are still more to enjoy. For me a magical part of the stay was to be in the hills seeing and hearing the curlews, seeing curlew chicks on the ground, and providing memories of long ago holidays, lovely to see them again. The Bothy gave me the relaxing yet fun filled break I was hoping for, in a part of England I had not appreciated is truly magical, and somewhere I was made to feel truly welcome. Once again, thanks Mark and Jo and hope to be back again very soon!

• "Beautiful little cottage, very clean and tge kitchen is filled with all necessities needed."

  Lovely atmosphere and very quiet for anyone who needs peace and to relax. Mark was an absolute lovely host, even left us some lovely scones and Jam. Definitely worth the break and absolutely worth the scenery. Thank you so much Mark & Jo. Just what we needed. See you again soon. 100% recommend.

• "My husband and I had a much needed break at the end of April."

  The Bothy was cosy and quirky. Mark and Jo made us so welcome. The cottage is well thought out with stylish fixtures and fittings. The little touches of eggs, homemade scones and jam on arrival were delicious. It was delightful to listen to the birdsong, see the birds feeding in the garden and a red squirrel made his visits too! The surrounding countryside is stunning. Whether you enjoy walking or just want to relax and recharge your batteries, I would thoroughly recommend booking here. PS I say this after taking self catering holidays in the North of England and Scotland for over 30 years.

• "Stayed at The Bothy as a women and her dog, wanting an escape from the hustle and bustle of every day life."

  Wow! Did this place deliver in spades. The cottage is amazing. Quirky. Packed with character. Very well equipped and immaculately clean. Mark and Jo are super hosts. Genuinely one of the nicest couples I’ve met. Whilst they live on site, I never saw them (except arrival and departure) but it was great to know they were there if needed. The scone and fresh eggs on arrival were very welcome too - thank you! Now location…. This cottage is on a hillside in heaven! The views from The Bothy are incredible but there are also so many walks straight from the door and a variety too! Whether you want 1 mile to 50 mile, riverside or moorland, the one thing you can be sure of, is the area has it all. I parked the car up on arrival and it didn’t move again til I left. I walked a total of over 45 miles during the week and never did the same walk twice! Not only that but I reckon I didn’t see more than a dozen people throughout the entire weeks walks!!! Having said that this has to be one of the friendliest places I’ve ever been. Every single person I met was absolutely lovely Nenthead (under a mile away) has a local shop and fabulous cafe (the Hive) and the mine is a great visit. Hopefully the local pub will reopen soon. Alston (3.8 miles) has a variety of shops with a couple of pubs/restaurants. Issac Tea Trail literally runs from The Bothy but honestly this whole area is a walkers paradise. For anyone who’s thinking of booking…. Do it! You won’t be disappointed!!! I can’t wait to return for New Year and this time I’m taking dog and hubby!

• "The Bothy was an ideal setting for a peaceful, relaxing, stay, in the run up to Christmas."

  Jo and Mark are friendly owners and made sure that the cottage was set up with everything needed. The cottage has a well equipped kitchen with all appliances; a lounge with TV and small fire on the ground floor; a large double bedroom with plenty of storage space for clothes and belongings; and a bathroom with separate shower, jacuzzi bath and two wash hand basins. Felt warm and cozy throughout. Would be happy to recommend as a base to explore the local area. Very suitable for guests with a dog.

• "Had a lovely cosy and comfortable stay at the Bothy."

  Slept like a log every night. There is so much lovely walking in the local and surrounding areas which is why we chose to stay here. The owners were in contact and very helpful. Would stay here again if back in the area.

• "We had a glorious time staying in the Bothy, Joe and Mark couldn’t have been more helpful."

  Fortunately the weather was kind to us, had the weather been more wintry we felt the bathroom would have benefited from the radiators being on longer otherwise pretty damn good . Local pubs, well good food excellent Beer and Cider, not to mention Wine, what more can one desire, oh yes amazing scenery, OMG the moors are spectacular. We hope to return in the not too distant future. John

• "We had a really good holiday."

  You can do loads of walks straight from the door. The cottage is clean. The beds/ sofa very comfortable. Kitchen is well equipped. Nice to arrive to fresh scones and eggs. We took all our food with us which turned out to be a good idea as there's only a small CoOp in Alston.

  If medals could be awarded i woud give this cottage a gold star it was immaculate since mark and jo took it over they have put a lot of time and effort into mmaking it into a fantastic cottage nothing is to much troubefor them on meeting them every thing was expained that we might not know such as how the telly worked great hosts but not intrusive scones and fresh eggs were a welcome gift if you need any help or information yhey are only too willing to helpwill recommend to family and friends

• "Just returned from a 4 night stay at The Bothy and enjoyed every minute."

The Bothy is delightful – lovely and warm and equipped with everything you could possibly need, together with fantastic views and lovely walks right on your doorstep. Excellent WiFi enabled me to work. The enclosed courtyard was great for my elderly greyhound to potter around in and enjoy lots of sniffs. Hope to stay again soon.

• "Very enjoyable stay at the Bothy."

  Our host greeted us on arrival with lovely jam and scones. The accommodation has everything you need for a self catering stay and is furnished to a high standard. A great place to be to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. The fields adjoining the property are also a big plus, safe and enclosed to let your dog run wild chasing rabbits. The property is off the beaten track but my wife and I would consider a return visit in the summer months.

• "The Bothy is a first-class accommodation."

  Everything you want is there for you to relax and enjoy your stay. The surrounding area is amongst the most scenic in the UK with views over the moorlands of the Northern Pennines. With a short drive to Hadrian's Wall as well as the massive amount of signed footpaths, it has to be counted as a top-class location. As the property does have stairs, I would consider it not to be practical for people with mobility issues.

• "Lovely quiet location."

  Property had great facilities but would be much better if the heating controls were in the cottage rather than managed from the owner’s property. The owners are new but they were so helpful in every respect, we hope they make a great success from the ownership of the property.

  The Bothy was well equipped with everything you needed in the Kitchen infact it would have had more equipment than a Hotel no issues at all The bathroom also Big double power shower and a jacuzzi bath large bathroom no issues here the rest just falls into normal bedroom lounge television area all in very good order no issues the dog found the stairs abit steep but was quite happy to be carried All in all a good few days break from the normal
