  • "The barn is furnished to a reasonable standard and is adequately equipped."

The bedroom a little less spacious but the bed is comfortable. The accommodation is well heated. The upstairs bathroom is well set out, although it was problematic getting hot water to come through. The internet connection is totally unreliable and kept falling out throughout our stay. In 2025 it is expected when renting property to have full reliable internet connection. This impacts on communication and has a negative impact on the holiday as a whole. The TV is also a necessity, the only connection is an Apple TV box, which without an apple subscription is useless. At the very least Freeview should be provided. The TV is only a smart to when connected to the internet, this one needed an Ethernet wired connection, which sadly wasn’t present. There was no wheelie bin or information regarding the disposal of rubbish. A little more information about the facilities in the property would have been helpful, for example, the hob has no visible settings and no manual available, difficult to know high or low heat. There is a manual for the oven. Thank you for the welcome pack, much appreciated.

The hot water does take a while to come through to the hand basin and kitchen sink, as the hot water tank is at the other end of the house. The shower is electric so hot water is instantaneous. I’m sorry you had problems with using the TV. I have now added thorough point by point instructions for connecting to BBC iPlayer, Netflix and You Tube, which is possible without an Apple account. The WiFi does occasionally need restarting from the booster in the hall, but this is not generally a problem. With an old house such as Dufton House, with walls 1m thick in places, it is sometimes a challenge to get the signal to transmit from room to room. I am nearly always available to deal with any queries Property Owner

  • "Very warm and comfortable cottage."

Thoughtful welcome pack well above average…thank you! Plenty of hot water after a day on the fells and plenty of space. A massive hallway to put boots, kit and wet gear. Also, a large lounge with comfortable couch and full dining table. Kitchen compact but with everything you’d need and unusually plenty of storage space. There was no freezer. Internet flaky and didn’t work more than it did work. Telly didn’t work at all and radio only tuned to radio 4! I went for peace and quiet anyway, and had books to read. Surroundings very quiet and a comfy bed so slept well. Parking okay for one car but tight parking generally in the village. Garden doesn’t belong to the annex but there was an open green area 2 minutes away to walk the dogs. I had a brilliant week!

I’m sorry you didn’t manage to get the tv working. BBC channels, BBC iPlayer, Netflix and Amazon are all available. The radio can be tuned to lots of channels although digital stations are a bit patchy up in Cumbria. There is sufficient space for two medium cars outside the property. Property Owner

Where you’ll be staying

COCKERMOUTH

Bassenthwaite Lake 7 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
